That's exactly what seems to have happened to mine, and because I don't have a PS3, or enough money to get another PS2 I don't know what to do.

The Kessen 3 disk is the only one your having problems with?

I've never had any issues with my Kessen disks, it seems quite odd that it's only that game causing problems. :/

The disks got any scratches or marks on them? Maybe they need a clean up, damp cloth or something?

I find it odd that the exact same problem if happening to both of us. My disk is near perfect. I've wiped it and cleaned it as much as possible. It doesn't even TRY to load. And yes, every other game I own works. I'm not looking for advice, since it seems to be more or less an isolated incident. I just find it odd.

Yeah, I recall another of my fav games, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time done this on some PS2s as well.

In Till the End of Times case, the early model PS2s could not play it, but the newer ones could. But the original poster said he even tried two different PS2s which should rule that out, so I'm truly puzzled by this. :/

It’s a shame too, I’d be very disappointed if I could never get my Kessen 3 disk working again, as its such a great game…

Sorry, but I don't know what else to suggest, short of returning the game if it's purchased recently and try yet again.

Hi there. Well, I was looking through my games when I saw Kessen 3. I put it in my console, and it didn't work, the PS2 loading screen didn't even come up, my console just made strange noises.

So, I bought another copy, and to my horror, it still did not work.

Now you might think it was the PS2, but I tried it on another PS2, and they both did not work.

I don't know what to do, any help and/or advice is very much appreciated.

I had the same problem with Kingdom Hearts 2 and Samurai Warriors 2.

Look in the back of the PS2 if it's an old model, and use a q-tip to clean out the fan. Possibly blow on the fan a few times to get the dust out of it as well.

Your PS2, in any case, is probably the problem. If you've had it for a long time, which was the case with my old PS2, it will begin to wear down. I had to get an entirely new PS2 at some point.

What's weird is that, even if your PS2 is worn down, it will be able to read some cds and not others. When mine was beginning to show problems, I could easily play Dragon Quest VIII, but when it came to Samurai Warriors 2 or Kingdom Hearts 2, the system couldn't read the cd. I managed to fix it by cleaning the dust out of the fan, cleaning the interior of the device by keeping the cd thing open, and by toying with the laser thing in the back. However, it only worked temporarily. Eventually I just had to flat-out get a new PS2.

which PS2 do you have? if it's the older version it won't work. The slimmer version works excellent. For example some PS2 games like Legend of Dragoon never worked on the old version PS2, but the newer slim one it did. If you do have the slimmer version then it's an older model. MAke sure also that there's no dust whatsoever became what can that do is disupt the reading of the laser. I use those computer dust blowers for my PS2 to get rid of the dust and it does the job.

For the record, Legend of Dragoon is for PS, not PS2 . I actually do have a slim one. But I don't get the read screen, or a "disc read error", I simply get nothing. It's so weird. And the game USE to work. I didn't play it for like...9 months and then I tired it again and was dumbfounded.

Indeed, that was my logic when I tried to fix my old PS2 as well (and got it to work for awhile before I just bought a new, slimmer PS2). Getting the dust out does indeed help a bit. I just wish I had been smarter and had used your method. I ended up using a more excruciating manual method instead. >_>

So, as has been said Yuan Benchu, it is more than likely your PS2 instead of the Kessen 3 CD itself. The version of your PS2 is irrelevant as well; I could play Kessen 3 fine on the old type of PS2. It's probably merely that your console has begun to decline.

There could be a problem with the lens, if that's the case, than you're going to have to get it fixed.

The PS2 I've got is a slim one, but even that is now fairly old, pretty much from when they first came out. But anyway guys, thanks alot for you replies as at least now I know that it's the PS2 not the game itself. Thanks again. :)

Kessen 3:

So, has anyone figured out what part of catalogue you need to unlock Kotaro, Rikyu and Omatsu? I checked out Walkthrough/FAQ on GFAQs but all it said was that you need to have some sort of Enjoy Disc... What the heck is that  ?

Enjoy disk is only Japan, we can't get them that way on the English version.

I never wrote down the exact requirements for those guys unfortunately, but I believe they were simply available when I started a replay file of my first finished game.

That's good to hear. But I wouldn't mind having more ninjas class characters, though. Kazumasa's my only one since I didn't bother with Hanzo >_>.

Is there a New Game+?

To be honest, I don't know what that means, but if it means you can create a save game after beating the game on the same file (meaning you keep all your skills, weapons, items, etc.), then yes.

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. That kind of thing is known as New Game+. Thanks for the help.

But what about about "bonus" characters (those who are optional) and level ups? Can I keep them as well?

Ohhh, I see. That's good to know, haha.

IIRC, when you start your New Game+, all the characters go back to Lvl. 1, but they do keep all the skills you've taught them. Bonus characters... you mean like Ina and Keiji from the SWXL save data? I think so, but I never used them to being with. :P

With bonus characters I mean all optional characters who can be unlocked if you complete specific requirements in any Major or Decisive battle (Masanori, Kiyomasa, Hanzo etc.).

Thanks for all the help, Manji. There aren't much guides available for this game, unfortunetly.

Yeah, like Manji said with a replay file you get to carry over a bunch of skills you learnt, but not level ups, I guess that would make it too easy. As you fill up more of the catalogue you get to carry over more data and useful items for replays as well.

And your right, there are very few guides available on the game, that's pretty much the reason I tried to write one of my own.

I love those Ninja class units as well, the Shuriken ones in particular, they are fast and deadly if used well. Also, another standard ninja unit you didn't mention is Goemon - Chapter 7 - Rescue from Akechi Castle.

Fayt, have you managed to collect all weapons, armors, horses etc.? If you've done it, do you remember how many times you had to complete the game? Also, is it necessary to get S rank from every single stage in order to get all items?

I think not, as you can buy some weapons/items/horses from the shops. And if you used the glitch Fayt provided in his guide, you can pretty much get them easily.

That doesn't apply to music though.

You will need some S Rank items to fill the catalogue, to be safe it would be ideal to get every S Rank to ensure you don't miss any.

You would need to complete the game at least three times to get a 100% catalogue. First on your normal difficulty and try S Rank the stages you enter, secondly on Hard doing the stages you did not last time, and again try to get as many S Ranks as you can. Then finally on Expert to unlock Oichi who has unique equipment of her own.

But definitely use the cheap shop trick of two save files to really boost your catalogue. ;)

Hah, I thought there would be a glitch like that. Think I'll give it a try on my next playthrough. Is it true that you get something special when you start a new game with 100% catalogue list?

And about characters... is it wise to use every single one of them or should I stick with say, 8-10 characters and use them all the time?

Nah, using all of them is a wasta time. Just use some of them and level up up, switch between them depending on the condition of them (injured, etc). Also there are characters you'd better make sure you power them up as you will need them in later stages, like Hideyoshi.

^ My opinion, everyone got thier own style of play, but it's quality over quantity for me.

Yeah, completing more of the catalogue allows you to have more equipment etc when you start a new game. Nothing overly special though, it's just there to have something extra to aim towards on a replay, collectibles always help with replays.

I in fact used every character I had, on Minor Missions I always picked my weakest characters, regardless of condition too actually. If you can abuse the Rampage mode well you can make even your weaker officers powerful, and push them up to Excellent condition with a bit of grinding as well. Every time you win a Rampage your officers condition will go up by one, and the opposing officers down by one.

I did that because the stronger your characters are, the less experience they tend to get post battle, you'd notice that with Nobunaga in particular. Quite often he will get less experience then the other guys you have, I always rested him for Minor battles too. But it's just down to what your comfortable with in the end. Like RPGs, you either stick with 3-4 characters you like, or switch between all of them.
