Diao Chan was a very brave and loyal women. She fearlessly sacrificed her chastity to help Wang Yun. However, I really wonder whether she really loved Lu Bu or not... |

Diao Chan's a good character to play with (if you know what you're doing). Although her range is quite short and her defense is lacking, her speed and musou capabilities make up for it. Since Diao Chan is rather fragile, you might want to resort to using a hit and run tactic when playing as her (especially in the more difficult stages). In DW5, she's the only female character who can use an elemental orb's effect on the last hit of her evolution attack (however, using the Ice Orb's effect is ineffective for it since it can't freeze enemies on the air....) Also, her new air charge is powerful enough to heavily damage a crowd, causing her musou to fill up quite nicely (this actually gives her heavy weapon a purpose). |

Compared to some of the other females and all of the males with no Defense bonuses on their 4th weapons, Diao Chan is a tank. I just wanted to say that much before I now begin. Anyway, while it was questionable whether she existed in the real history (basically there was a maid who came between Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu in the real history, but that was rather insignificant so Luo Guangzhong decided to give this maid a name, a personality, and a story which is how Diao Chan came about IMO), she played what I call the most important female role in the novel. It was under the request of Wang Yun that Diao Chan came in between Lu Bu and Dong Zhuo in order to drive that wedge between them so Lu Bu would come to distrust Dong Zhuo and later kill him. In her Musou mode, Diao Chan explains how she's afraid to lose Master Lu Bu even though she's executed the plan perfectly. I think that says right there she had true feelings for him--that and she told him the truth after the Battle of Hu Lao Gate (in game of course). In the novel it was Wang Yun who explained this plot to Lu Bu. Anyway, my thoughts about Diao Chan's moveset and weapon in the game. I think that the heavy weight weapon is perfect for her since she has a lot of speed in the game. Even though it drops her attacking/Charge speed by about half, the damage she can do is well worth that drop (even with only Fill and Musou bonuses as her offensive power). The Jump Charge I agree with, paired with her Musou it's the cheapest way for her to clear the crowds at Wu Zhang. Oh, and her 4th does give a nice boost to her defense stat so she really isn't that fragile. But there is one thing that isn't mentioned. The Musou Rage also gives her a boost with her heavy weapon. Diao Chan is really one of the best in Musou Rage, and actually we owe it to the heavy weight weapon for its part. She gets to swing much faster in her Musou Rage, but still do the same amount of damage she'd normally do with her heavy weight 4th. Who doesn't like that? And even with the slower speed, I play her with no other weapon but her 4th, and I get great results. Her C1 is great for a hit and run, but I rarely use it since her C3, C4, C6, Jump Charge, and Musou get the job done on both crowds and officers. And her C5 is really great on officers too--it's relatively fast for what it does, and enemy officers more often than not can't block against it. Her C6 hasn't changed, which I really like. And the interesting thing is, with her C6, I get a 99.5% unblockable rate on officers. On a very rare occasion, an NPC enemy officer will block against it or evade it, but it seems that it always hits the enemy playables with a great icy/fiery effect (of course only if you equip her with an Ice or Fire orb). I equip her with the following and find that it serves her well on a 5-star stage in Hard mode. Fire orb Tiger Amulet Wind Scroll Herbal Remedy Ginseng Way of Musou |

Diao Chan with heavy 4th weapon definitely isn't best choice for me >_>. I like to play on Chaos and S string is really important in that mode. Now here comes the problem... Diao Chan's attacks are simply too linear (compared to Qiaos and SSX for example) and she always gets disturped. Of course she has her powerful Charge attacks, but it's hard to execute them when 3-4 officers and about +100 soldiers are surrounding you :o. I use her JC attack often, but enemies still manage to hit my back and then they start juggling. Musou Rage combined with her heavy 4th weapon definitely makes her strong, but you can't always count on that. I'm still saying that Diao Chan with medium weight weapon >> heavy weight weapon simply because... Slow swing speed + vertical/long range attacks = Awesome. Slow swing speed + linear/short attacks = Nightmare. |

Diao Chan is an important women in the novel, she have changed the History. Even if she doesn't go in a battlefield. But she has had a big role in the Three Kingdom History. ^^ Her artwork is very beautifull. She really looks like a Chinese princess (dress, color pink,...etc). In the game, I like her pretty movesets : she looks like dance and attack in the same time. We don't be annoyed to play with her.

Okay, where are the linear attacks? I only see linearness in the first few hits of her S string and MAYBE her C6 (which DOES have the two 360 discs so it DOES take out crowds nicely). Even though her C6 has to be used on the fringes, it still does MASSIVE damage on crowds and officers. I wouldn't say she's any more interruptable than say, Sun Shang Xiang or Taishi Ci, not in the least, and she is definitely less interruptable than Zhang Jiao. Of course I'd have to test this out in a 3 to 5-star stage on Chaos mode, but then again I fail to see the point of it.
The person who created the Chaos tier guide said that her Jump Charge IS her best move to use on Chaos mode, along with her C6 and her Musou, paired with a Demon Band for a long Musou Rage. It took him great pains to finish a level on Chaos mode with her, but even greater pains to finish with Zhang Jiao, but he did it, and within his Chaos tier guide there's a URL to the video he made of his performance with Diao Chan. I tested her out on the Yellow Turban Rebellion (Han Forces) on Chaos mode earlier this morning and I found that her Jump Charge worked quite nicely for her, along with the C6 and the Musou Rage.
You most definitely can count on it. The only way not to is before you get your first 100 KO's and even at that she can still find Musou Rage tokens. See, that's where her Luck bonus comes in on Chaos mode. Finding a Musou Rage token isn't hard at all whether you've gotten the next 100 KO's or not. Again, I tested this out on the YTR, Chaos mode.
This is my biggest beef right here. I think the opposite because look at the damage factor. The medium weight weapon doesn't do quite as much damage as the heavy weapon, even though her only offensive bonuses are her Fill and her Musou. (Which isn't bad because her Musou is and always has been one of her best assets.) I look at it this way. Diao Chan with medium weight weapon + Tiger, Green, Wind, Ginseng, Demon Band + Musou Rage = Nightmare. This is because she already swings so fast with a medium weight third weapon as it is. Having a Musou Rage will only make her miscue on her attacks. I've tested this not only with Diao Chan, but with several characters with medium weight 4th weapons and I don't find them nearly as good in Musou Rage as if they were equipped with heavy weight weapons. The medium weight weapon already gets the standard 1 damage, which is normal damage, and the Musou Rage for some reason only makes the weapon swing like it's light--but doesn't give the great damage output. Diao Chan with heavy weight weapon + Tiger, Green, Wind, Ginseng, Demon Band + Musou Rage = Awesome. The slower speed along with the items equipped should give her damage output the needed boost. And with the Musou Rage, she gets to swing much faster while still getting that wonderful damage output. The Demon Band really helps pump this up simply by extending the time of Musou Rage, giving her that much more time to eliminate the big crowds AND take care of the officers as well. Also, the heavy weight weapon already gets a 1 damage, plus the extra .5 damage from two built-in Tigers, giving her a whopping 1.5 damage. Please understand that I'm not claiming she has attack on her weapon. Some people figured out this: A light weight weapon does 75% damage. Thus it naturally loses the 25% that should equate to a Lv. 20 Tiger. The advantage of the light weight is its very fast attacking speed, but the disadvantage is that you don't get a great damage output. A medium weight weapon does 100% damage. It neither loses nor gains the extra Lv. 20 Tiger. Thus, there is no real advantage or disadvantage (except for in Musou Rage, which I've explained above). A heavy weight damage does 125% damage. Thus it naturally gains the 25% that should equate to a Lv. 20 Tiger. The advantage of the heavy weight weapon is its wonderful damage output, but the disadvantage is its slower attacking speed. In Xtreme Legends, the heavy weight weapon comes with an auto-bracer effect plus an extra 25% damage, thus now the heavy weight weapon naturally gains TWO Lv. 20 Tigers, for 150% damage. I should test this out with her in a 3 or 5-star stage on Chaos, but for the time being, I still have to get my feet wet in Chaos mode. YTR was a great start for me, considering I see no difference between a 5-star stage on Hard mode and a 1-star stage on Chaos mode aside from the lack of health. EDIT: As promised, I tried her out on a 3-star stage on Chaos. I tried her out on Hu Lao Gate (Dong Zhuo's side) on Chaos mode and used her Jump Charge, Musou, C6, short spurt of C3, some S string, and even used her in Musou Rage a lot. I came across Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei head-on and just Musou-raged Liu Bei to death (although I did do a good amount of damage on Guan Yu too). Of course, I had my fan bodyguard by my side and managed to pick up three little meat buns (one at the checkpoint to the extreme right of where Diao Chan started, one at the supply base near the bottom of the map, and one at the second nearest checkpoint to Yuan Shao). Is it wrong of me to have the bodyguard in Chaos mode? And you're right. Diao Chan is terrible in Chaos mode on a 5-star stage. I tried her on Bai Di Castle, trying to get the setup right for her. No matter what I did, I still ended up dying before 100 KO's. |

Meh, her personality is annoying, too clingy and can't stand up for herself. Her Moveset on the other hand... Sucks. Try and hit more than half a metre past your own nose. Her Musou sucks also, she flings about, wagging around her little musical instruments that make noises by shaking them around, and she hardly kills anyone, one of the worst characters, quite clearly. |

That's good to hear ^^. Now then, shall we begin DCH...
C1, C2 and C3 are also linear attacks and while her C4 and C5 are not completely linear, they have short range. Also, the first three-four hits are important in S string because if they are linear (like in Diao Chan's case) there are higher chances to get interrupted. I agree that SSX and Taishi Ci are easily interruptable too, but at least Taishi Ci has high defense and medium weight 4th weapon (Diao Chan lacks these both) and SSX's C3 and C4 are really good crowd clearers which work well with her heavy 4th weapon. As for Zhang Jiao... I always keep using his C3 attack. I recommend you tap the triangle only once, because his attacks with staff are totally useless. The shockwave at the end of his C3 is more than enough to take care of crowds. His C1 and C4 are also nice crowd clearers, despite the fact that they are weak attacks.
I don't disagree with you but I never said her JC is useless. However, it does leave her guard open from behind (I noted this when I played as her in DW5E) allowing enemy generals to juggle you. It's been a while since I completed Musou modes on Chaos and I really can't remember did I have more problems with Zhang Jiao or Diao Chan
Really? Even in Wu Zhang Plains where I am immediately attacked by two-three generals and about hundred soldiers? I can assure you that being in situation like that with Diao Chan is everything else except fun. Of course I could try to search for a Musou Rage token, but I don't want to waste my for something like that and let enemy officers gather together.
I'm a person who prefers offense over defense and speed but even I have my limits. And that limit happens to be Diao Chan's heavy 4th weapon. Medium weight weapon is weaker than heavy, I admit that but character like Diao Chan who mainly relies on her speed (just like most of the other females) definitely should have medium weight weapon, even if it means weaker attack power. Take a look of Zhen Ji for example. She has got medium weight 4th weapon and she's just perfect with it. With heavy, I would think otherwise since she happens to have one thing in common with Diao Chan... linear attacks. And I'd remember that I use Demon Band with my Zhen Ji and her Musou Rage attack is still darn powerful. I believe the reason why we disagree with each other is actually because of Musou Rage. You seem to use it often while I on the other hand, do not. Sometimes playing on Chaos (or Hard) without 4th weapon is actually quite fun since you can't rely on "cheap" thing like Musou Rage often. It makes you feel that you're playing the old good DW3 and DW4 again where you did just fine without things like that to back you up. But think about this: Imagine if weight system had been featured in DW4 first time and Diao Chan's ultimate weapon would have been heavy as well. Would you still think her as so great character? Maybe, maybe not but you would definitely have hard time with her because the lack of Musou Rage ;). Oh, and I don't mind using fan bodyguard. Beating Zhang Jiao's, Xu Zhu's and Diao Chan's Musou mode on Chaos would have been almost impossible without BG's help >_>. |

It was the laughter in the other person's post that made me a bit angry. I take it personally when I feel like someone is laughing at me, and that's what it felt like. Personally I'm welcome to any and all opinions on her, be they good or bad, as long as they're respectful. The laughter in that other person's post sounded very disrespectul to me. Anyway.... LoW, this time I'm not going to engage. I haven't done Wu Zhang Plains on Chaos mode with Diao Chan, and I don't plan on it either. The hardest level I've done on Chaos and survived is Hu Lao Gate (on Dong Zhuo's side). I think the major difference is you like to play on Chaos mode while Hard mode is my cup of tea. But I've been trying the Chaos difficulty yesterday morning and this morning, and it's not too bad on 1-3 star levels. In a 5-star stage on Hard mode, I don't even rely on Musou Rage all that much, if ever, with Diao Chan. But on a 5-star stage in Chaos mode, it would be impossible for me not to rely on it. |
