For all the lack of power and low stats he apparently has, at LEAST he's somewhat important to the stories as opposed to the other halberd users.
Agreed. Lu Meng had such a big part in Lu Xun's storyline along with Gan Ning's as well which was nice even if it focused around his death. I actually cried when he died in Lu Xun's cutscene but when they did it for Gan Ning's, I felt awkward... I guess it was the way he shouted "OLD MAN!" just made the scene a bit out of place. :mellow:
Well, I always knew that Gan Ning and Lu Meng had a friendship, but DW6 was really the first game to really dive into that aspect of their relationship. I actually like the evolution of their friendship (yes, friendship, because I'm still a loyal Meng/Xun YAOI fan) as the game progressed, from DW3 to DW6. It's nice to see a relationship grow throughout the series (except DW6 Empires... all relationships were dropped in that game).

I remember playing Gan Ning's story in DW5, and while Lu Meng's death was off screen, I still went 'awwwww' when Gan Ning admitted to being too sad about his death to celebrate their victory at Jing Province. Had I known, though, that it'd lead to their relationship in DW6, though, I would have slapped Koei's hand.

Wu has enough fannon pairings, Koei, don't encourage any more!

Since it sounds that you both like and dislike the way Gan Ning and Lu Meng's friendship was portrayed in DW6, can you clarify the aspects you enjoyed and the parts that are worth a hand-slapping?

And perhaps I'm missing a tongue-in-cheek tone, but what's wrong with more fanon pairings? Viva variety, I say. :P

I actually liked the way their friendship was shown in 6 especially whenever Gan Ning would reply to Lu Meng with a "Whatever you say old man!" which leads to Lu Meng smacking him across the back. :lol: I just thought the death scene was a bit awkward the way it was brought up with Gan Ning shouting "OLD MAN!" to him. Other than that, I am just a complete Wuist that don't have any dislike when it comes to their friendship.
Thank you Qing Long for the sexy avatar~ ❤

I merely meant the little bit of YAOI undertones that Lu Meng/Gan Ning's relationship had; I'm a hardcore Meng/Xun person, though I guess having some variety isn't too much of a bad thing. I really like the way their friendship seemed to evolve in the games; I think relationship was actually what keeps me interested in the series as a whole.

The only aspect, though, that I don't like about their relationship is that it really makes Lu Meng look like he's more of a father figure than a friend at times, which does make him seem really old. I think it's adorable that Koei swapped their ages around; wasn't Meng suppose to be a few years younger than Gan Ning?

I must be your evil twin. :ph43r: I disliked the touchy feely Meng / Xun cut scenes in the earlier games because I was never fond of that pairing as a mutual romance. But we can all have our favorite couples and agree on the subject of Lu Meng's awesomeness, so I say we go with that. ^_^

You're correct about the ages. Gan Ning was 3 years older than Lu Meng.

Well, in all honesty, I'm gradually falling out of love with the whole YAOI pairings. But yes, we can each like our own thing. :XD

I'm really hoping that if there is an XL, that Lu Meng finally gets a story and can stop acting as a plot device for other character's development. He's just as useful ALIVE as he is dead, Koei... do remember that.

In the Dynasty Warriors canon, Lu Meng - and most of the guys, for that matter - have no established sexual orientation. With Meng, the closest we get is his flirtation with Lady No. It's also true that Meng was historically hetero enough to father biological children.

However, human sexuality has its shades of grey. People with strong hetero preference can have same-sex attraction as well. Sometimes they have equal preference for a same or opposite gender partner, but we never know this if they are only involved in hetero relationships. Primarily straight people can still take part in situational homosexuality. Ever since men have been marching off to war for months at a time without any women to keep them company, some of them have shown a propensity for taking comfort in fellow soldiers even if they would ordinarily prefer a female partner. All in all, it is difficult to authoritatively state that someone is 100% straight or gay - no ifs, ands, or butts (pun intended) - especially when so little is known about any preferences they may have.

Furthermore, there is nothing inherently insulting about thinking of male characters as gay or bi. They're still the same people with the same personality. I can understand being annoyed at fan portrayals that take people well out of character to shoehorn them into some ill-fitting stereotype, but not all male/male fan works are like that. Is it still "not nice" to think of Lu Meng as a man who is true to his established personality and also happens to be interested in other guys?

Hm, interesting. I er, never really thought about it. I think Lu Mengs' sexuality is hetero, I don't really see it any other way :unsure: .

:lol: , and that's very much true, look at Alexander the Great, he was actually bi-sexual wasn't he 'cause he turned to men whilst on a journey :rolleyes: . So, :XD , god knows what Ling Tong and Gan Ning can be suggested to be up to.

It's like looking at Zhang He, he was historically hetero right, but in the game, he is very much arguably homosexual. By looking at Lu Meng, I don't get 'quite' the same vibe to be honest :lol: .

I guess it comes down to fan portrayal, reading of a Media text ^_^ . But erm, if Lu Meng ever, ever did, which I do doubt however, have interests in other guys, he wouldn't stop being my favorite character at all, or historical figure for that matter :huh: .

NO, DON'T EVEN GO THERE.
It'd destroy my heart and crumble it into pieces. D;
I'd be scared4lyfe. /shot

Back on topic, I doubt Lu Meng had a preference in guys. I'm sure he flirted with the females at times. Although, if he did like guys... I wouldn't care. I don't care that Zhang He likes Xiahou Yuan, so, I shouldn't care if Lu Meng liked Sun Jian. >3> /shotshotshot

Anyways, I think Lu Meng was closer to Gan Ning even if he did get irritated at his constant 'old man' comments. Lu Xun, he was close to in DW5, but... really, only considered him a small variable in his strategy, unlike Gan Ning whom he actually seemed to care for.

I still have no idea why he and Lingy even associate, but that's probably only because of Gan Ning, since Lingy didn't even seem to mind Lu Meng's death. ; - ;

...but the Lu Meng, Gan Ning and Ling Tong trio is still the best in my opinion. >3>~

...wait a second... did Lu Xun and Lu Meng ever associate in DW6? I... don't remember.

Haha, no offence LunarLight, but game-wise, certainly not history-wise, Ling Tong is the one I view as potentially homosexualy you know :lol: . I'm not even joking, he's second after Zhang He, who is just very flamboyant ;) .

I really like the Ling Tong, Lu Meng and Gan Ning triuo too, it's not overly eugh, like some relationships, but it exists which is a good thing I think, adds some character ^_^ .

And, Lu Xun and Lu Meng did associate a bit, Lu Meng was in a couple cutscenes with Xun , and even died in his prescence, if Xun is being played. Kinda an inspiration for Xun, but more of an inspiration to Gan Ning as he learns to not be so reckless, most likely through honoring Mengs' death.

Fnar fnar, if anything, Ling Tong is Gan Ning's rebound after Lu Meng dies...

Anyways, still kind of dislike this dude, but at least it got a few good points for me:

A) Doesn't scream GENERIC for me anymore since DW6, which is funny considering the clones and blah blah.

B) His goddamn awesome Fury form in Strikeforce.

Now, IF maybe Koei stops being trolls and give him a decent, with his development from brawler to strategist, i might give him another shot. :lol:

As if that's ever going to happen. Why give a good character a great story and development when they can simply add more boobs and pretty boys? Silly Koei.

Secondly, the whole YAOI this is just fannon. Let us have our fun; it's not hurting the guy anymore than what Koei's doing, is it?
