Do you think schools are doing enough to teach teens about safer sex? Personally i don't. When i left school (age 12 for certain reasons) i hadn't had a single sex education class. In my opinion they should start at an early age. It's such an important issue and i really don't think they are doing enough. As well as that they should teach children about relationships, what to expect etc. Another thing that i find annoying is that you look at the sex education classes, and it's only a man and a woman. I think that's totally wrong, they should be teaching about same sex relationships aswell as straight ones. Reason i'm brining this up is because i had a big debate about it with a few people about a week back, and i was just wondering everyone elses thoughts on it. |

I don't really need sex ed classes. I know the dangers and everything. Teaching kids about relationships might be an interesting idea. |

You know the dangers, but do you know how to prevent them? And don't just say "a condom" or "birth control". Most kids who haven't been shown how to put on a condom don't know how to properly which leads to them breaking and most women don't take birth control properly. They don't need to educate them about the dangers, they need to educate them on the precautions they should take. That's why abstinence groups fail. |

Hell yeah we need it. In my school, Health is a graduation requirement and we learn about Sex Ed because it's part of the standards. I'm tired of the haphazard teens who get themselves knocked up and having the burden to care for that child while trying to stay in school. I don't understand why people just don't WAIT. What is so damn hard about waiting? Not every parent is obviously willing to teach their kids about sex, so it really should be essential. |

Because waiting is not fun. I don't see why people don't just use their heads and take the proper precautions. |

Sometimes i think schools also focus to much on the negative side. Aswell as letting kids know that you can catch this and that and get pregnant, they should teach them that it can to be a pleasureable experience. |

I think that parents should not rely on school to teach their children about sex. but as someone prevously stated, I suppose some people come from a torn up families or many other reasons could have prevented a child/teenager from learning. However, the schooling system should teach children about the dangers of sex, as well as what can be done to prevent them. sadly, there is no cure for AIDS or actually most other STDS. We only offer symptomic relief. So even though it may be tough to wait to get to know the person better, it is better then risking getting a disease you will have for the rest of your life. Teenagers should also be aware that diseases can be transmitted by more then sex alone. for example, you can get herpes by simpley kissing someone. It is of course a different strand then then one you get from having sex. Another thing that deeply disturbs me is that when a mother has syphillis, it gets transmitted to the baby because it crosses the placenta. but I am getting slightly off topic now. but I am just saying that the innocent baby might also be affected. |

Forgive my ignorance, but how do you test something like this? If you just go up to them and ask them if they've had sex then yes, most of them (especially the males) are going to say yes. |

Most children find it embarassing and awkward, I am one of these people, besides, My Mum has never tried, and if she does, I'll pack my bags and go stay round my Nan's until she drops it, I know what is necessary. <.< |

Indeed, some people there obviously lied, but there are some truth-tellers, I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few people in my year and year 11 have lost their virginity by now... |

My parents never spoke about the subject with us. They assumed that we already know everything. also, like smoking...all my relatives do it. but we know that it is wrong, so my parents never bothered to tell us because they assume that we wouldn't do it. |

I disagree. I believe sex is something to be enjoyed like video games, TV, eating, or whatever else gives you pleasure. It's fun and feels good, so why not? I mean, you're only hurting yourself if anyone (and you can't say you're hurting your partner if it's consentual) and if you take the proper measures to prevent things like STD's and pregnancy, there isn't a problem with it. |

I understand your views in that it is pleasurable and that you are not hurting anyone assuming no disease is transmitted. But I have a more traditional views, for better or for worse. I suppose it is difficult to wait so long. but when you get married and then have sex for the first time, then I feel it is worth it because that is something special that only the two people ever did together. ALso, there is more to sex then the physical pleasure. For women, they care more about the emotional bond. and this physical bond is very special. That means more to women that it means to men, hahaha. I am sure most if not all ladies would agree to what I am saying and possibley understand me more. Random stuff I thought about: statistics shows that when a man cheats on his wife, he does it purely for sex. but when a lady cheats on her husband, it was for emotional support. |

Therein lies the difference. I'm sure for women, it is more important to do it with someone you love. For men, they don't have the emotional needs women have so waiting is, for the most part, worthless. Besides, what if it's with a boyfriend/girlfriend who you love? Do you have to wait to be married? Many women have had sex many times and they do fine with not marrying these people. |

I'm going to agree with this. I don't really have any problems with sex before marriage, but promiscuity bugs me... |
