Anymore questions, feel free to ask more. If I'm being too elaborate, please tell me. I can tend to run on and on.

On the contrary, this is an excellent weapons analysis. I expected as much from each weapon, but your explanation of it puts it into better perspective. Thank you very much for this. I'm sure it will benefit all who read this ^_^

EDIT: Oh, and I'll definitely be using the sword B)

Thanks. I hope it helps everyone. And the sword is an excellent choice. I should post about the ranged weapons, but I think I'll post that tomorrow, if I have the time. ^_^

If you have the time, I know I would appreciate it. :) I've seen all the gameplay videos and have my own opinions based on that but still, it would be nice to hear it from someone who has used them.

I have unlocked the fifth scenario , "Unification" and have submitted the cheat to GameFaqs. To unlock it, you must obtain an "S" rank on at least one part of each mission in all scenarios.

Now, for the ranged weapon overview. Ahem.... ^_^

Let's start with the Bow. The bow is the fastest firing of all of them, strangely enough. Yet again, guns were muskets back then, and reloading took time. With the bow, it operates just like one, where the longer you hold down B, the more powerful the attack becomes, which is useful for slower but harder to bring down enemies i.e. Strike Ninjas. If you choose not to charge it up, you can fire up to six in rapid succession, quickly bringing down ranged units like bowmen and riflemen, since they only need a light bow shot to bring them down most of the time. However, once the six shots are up, you need to press B while aiming off of the screen to "reload" the arrows light gun-style. Then you can fire six more once again. The bow can be very powerful, but needs time to charge up in order to do so. Otherwise, it does fairly light damage when fired in rapid succession. It's a fun weapon to use too, and still pretty effective.

Now, for the gun. I find the gun as my weapon of choice, as it's the most effective. The gun never has to be reloaded like the bow does, but after firing a shot, it needs 2 seconds to reload the musket, in which, you'll here a reload sound from the Wii-mote speaker when it's ready to fire. The rate of fire can be boosted at the smith, but now by too much. The gun is more powerful than a bow, and requires no charging. It's also a faster flying projectile and hits its target faster than the other ranged weapons. That's really it. It's basic, it's not the funnest to use, but it works really well, as it's damaging without charging like the bow, and reloads at a decent pace. It also hits its target faster than any other ranged weapon.

Third, the cannon. This thing is devastating  . When it hits, it does over 200 damage; more than any weapon in the game. However, it is ridiculously slow, and takes a while to soar to its target. You aim the cannon via a blue circle that shows on the ground, indicating where the cannonball will land, and its radius. The higher you aim the cannon, the further out the cannonball will fly. The cannon can take out a row of five enemies if aimed properly, making it truly devastating. However, you have to make every shot count, because it takes time to reload, and every shot takes a little while to reach it's target. However, this weapon can kill any enemy in one shot, even Strike Ninjas, but not counting bosses, of course. Its not exactly fun to use, but if you want to deal with large crowds of enemies in one swipe without using you musou, then the cannon is your choice.

Lastly, the boomerang. This is probably the funnest ranged weapon, as you can throw it like a boomerang. It has great range, and can be pretty powerful though not as much as the gun or cannon. It is great for taking out lines of enemies in the distance or up closer at mid-range. You hold B and then swing the Wii-mote left or right to throw the boomerang in an arc in that direction. It can also be thrown at an angle, as well. Now, depending on the strength of the swing or the Wii-mote, the larger the arc will be. If you just flick the remote while holding B, you'll do a small are, hitting close-to-mid-range enemies. However, make a more elaborate motion, and you can have it soar in a long arc to hit further away enemies. Got a long line of bowmen and riflemen in the distance? If you got a boomerang equipped, then you can make one long throw of thee boomerang to take almost all of them out. Also, depending on where the cursor is aimed when the B button is held down will determine the center of the arc. So, aiming it at the center of the screen will yield a throw that will likely hit every enemy in a line in the distance. One other point of the boomerang is it is NOT effective against one enemy. So if you're taking on a boss, a boomerang is kinda useless. It's the funnest of all the ranged weapons, and effective in taking out lines of enemies, but not the most powerful.

So, essentially, it's broken down like this. If you want rapid fire and occasionally be able to charge your shots for single enemies, you want the bow. For the most straight-forward ranged weapon that has good rate of fire and damage with no frills attached, you want the gun. If you want to bow away crowds or enemies in one shot, you want the cannon. If you want to have something fun to use and is pretty effective against lines of enemies, even if it can't take single enemies, then you want the boomerang. All are effective in their own right, unlike the Blades, which are the most useless weapon in the game whether it be a ranged weapon or melee weapon.

I may be posting a review soon, but it'll be under the Samurai Warriors Reviews thread, so if you want to read it, head there. I might do that tomorrow, since I'm off from work. Hope this helps ;) .

:o Awesome job yet again MegaXtreme! You are definitely the resident SW:Katana expert here at KW. B)

Hmm, if this info is put together, we may want to add it to the Guides section here as well in addition to your review (when complete). I also noticed the GameFAQs community is generally pretty tough on this game ...

Well I don't think it's a matter of me being the resident SWK expert, I just think I'm one of very few who own it and even fewer who are willing to share info. I'm glad I could help, Mr. Honda. ;) I'd be honored if my info was added to the Guides section. Of course, I'd need to clean up any misprints, add any missed info (I think I hit all the bases <_< ), and get that review done.

No problem, if you get it all gathered and cleaned up, PM it to me and I'll see what the rest of the staff thinks and we'll let you know when its ok to add it. We'll probably be the only site around with any kind of guide on this game :P

Cool. I want it to be Koei Warriors exclusive. I mean, it's the least I can do for having my scan of SW2XL posted on the front page, and the site's awesome. I'll get to work on that tomorrow. I just got home from work a little over an hour ago and need my shuteye. :D

:D I just got this game Saturday :D

I must say, I am enjoying this game thus far. To achieve an "S" rating on certain stages/missions is difficult enough to keep me playing them over again. I only had time to play the Ascendancy Musou mode but I am having fun with it.

I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed shooting the Takeda Cavalry one-by-one. Those guys irritated me in SW2.

I played a little Vs. mode too with the limited # of stages I have unlocked. That was also pretty fun ^_^

So, is there anything really new to it?

There's no information in the OP, and Wikipedia is only mentioning some new co-op mode.

Other than that, is it just SW2 with waggle-remote action?

Check the SW: Katana review by MegaXtreme for more info.

It's probably the most comprehensive bit of information that you can find out there (positive anyway, most game reviewers bashed it badly).

I haven't played it enough to give much information. I'm enjoying it so far though. It does provide a different experience to the SW series. I don't know how it stacks up compared to other Wii titles myself, but its still fun to me.

Whoops! Sorry, I wasn't even paying attention to the topic for a bit there!

Okay, Okuni doesn't have much of a role at all as far as I remember. As for Lady Noh, she has a significant part in the fourth scenario with Magoichi Saika, as you have to save her in one whole battle, and you have to fight her later on.

And yes, a female narrator. Much different from what were used to in Warriors games as a whole.

@Mr.Honda: Ah, you finally got it! Glad to see you're enjoying it. Getting "S" ranks isn't very easy, as most of the time, you have to go through the mission virtually unscathed.

@blind51de: It has Japanese VAs, so that is a plus. The Warriors Orochi voices are at pay, so that does mean no "surfer" Keiji. He did sound like Michaelangelo the Ninja Turtle in SW2, though  .

As it stacks up against other Wii titles, this is pretty much what the sword fighting in Red Steel should have been, minus being able to walk around most of the time. I'll have to update the Wikipedia page myself, as I'm probably the most willing to do it. If you have any more questions, I will be monitoring this thread, as it seems you guys need some questions answered. I know my review doesn't cover everything, but it's not supposed to; just the main points. Any questions, ask away! ;)

Howabout Ginchiyo, Ina, Nene and Oichi?

Ginchiyo plays a role in several scenarios. She's an optional boss in "Ascendancy", an ally in "Swordsman", and plays a key role in Magoichi's scernario (can't remember the name off the top of my head, sorry), and it's the fourth scenario. She's a boss there, and it part of the purpose of the whole deal towards the end.

Ina is a boss in a couple areas, and plays a role in Magoichi's scenario.

Nene plays a role in Magoichi's scenario, and is also a boss.

Oichi is a boss in "Ascendancy" and Magoichi's scenario, and she plays a role in Magoichi's scenario. I think you can see now what Magoichi's scenario is all about, as all the female characters make an appearance somewhere, with the exception of Okuni.

Yea, I noticed that  The only scenario I got straight "S" rankings on was the 1st scenario of Ascendancy  From that point on, I just decided to get "S" in at least 1 since it was taking so long to get them all "S" ;)

I would do well to get at least one "S" in each mission, as that's the only way you can unlock the fifth scenario, "Unification".

Maybe its possible she appears randomly in another part of the game, but not in the Musou mode. Perhaps Trial mode or Vs.?

For instance, I've seen Goemon appear all over the place in Musou mode, but as far as I can tell, his only purpose is to get shot by every ranged weapon in your arsenal. He's literally nothing more than a target carrying EXP scrolls, gold, skills or weapons (from what I have seen thus far anyway ;) )

They could very well have given Okuni similar share in the game
