Well, I am unsure if this topic has been posted before, or even thought of, but I was wondering why people like Samurai Warriors, Dynasty Warriors and other games by KOEI. I mean, really... why do you like the games? Many might say, "Because it's fun..." but I really want to know. Is it the music? The fights? I suppose the question is kinda blunt, but I do think it is a good, honest question to ask. One of the main reasons, if not the biggest reason, that I love the games KOEI creates, most especially the Samurai Warriors, and Dynasty Warriors series, is because they focus on key historical moments in time, dealing with things that many have either fantasized about, or don't know anything about, or just think are cool. And it makes me want to know more about them as I'm say, Laying waste to my enemies with Lu Bu, or conquering Japan as Nobunaga Oda. It really is quite amazing to see people atleast showing that the people existed, and allowing us to remember, and possibly learn from these past warriors. Maybe I'm reading to much into their motives, or am just crazy, but that is a major reason why I love the Warriors Series by KOEI. Let me know what you're reasons are, but please don't start bashing, and/or making arguements, as it really is pointless. Oh and discussing it is cool too. Peace (btw, please pardon my grammar, and spelling, as they are not always to terribly good. )

I am a history buff, and am interested in Koei games because of their portrayals of various historical times. Briefly in seventh grade, I had learned a little about Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu (though Nobunaga wasn't in the curriculum O_O), so when I heard about Samurai Warriors I thought: "Wow, that's cool. Maybe I can learn more about the period from playing the game." For Dynasty Warriors (the first one I played), it was a little bit differently. You see, I used to rent games from a game shop, and one day I couldn't find any games I wanted. Flustered, I just picked up Dynasty Warriors 3. Much to my surprise, it was a pretty fun game. That was my first Koei game, actually, and I got interested in the novel, the history of the Three Kingdoms, and other Koei games thanks to it. |

For me the main thing is the fighting system, there isn't any other game (I THINK) that does it like DW & SW. And if they do they don't do it as well as Koei. These games are just crazy addicting because of the leveling up, weapons, and items. It can keep you playing for months. For me replay value in a game is one of the most important things, probably the most important so thats why I stick to these games. The historical part of the game attracts me to these types of games too, it's interesting to learn about actual history while playing the game. Also it helped me past my History exam last semester =D lolol. |

History, I read the novel then I played the game. I played SW2 and found out it was pretty good, nothing esle to it. But I do play it more and more because I want to defend Shu so anything new I find I will contribute and defend in Dynasty Warrior since most people think hate Shu. |

Other than them being fun and requiring little intelligence (not that I don't enjoy thinking, but I simply enjoy games where I can cause complete carnage with just a couple buttons), I like their historical backgrounds. Though the games are pretty innaccurate, they are loosely based on history and it's fun to see the references or to fight in your favorite battle. I'm a history geek, so...
Nobody hates Shu, they just hate their idiotic fanboys/fangirls. I'm a Shuist, but even I hate all of the little fan-kiddies. |

Lol I don't hate Shu either...hate's a strong word, their just my least favorite kingdom lol. Their characters don't appeal to me as much as the characters in other kingdoms. Maybe if I read the book I would feel different. |

That's usually what it is. Most anti-Shuists just prefer the other kingdoms and hate the annoying fan-kiddies. This is most often misconstrued as Shu-hate rather than Shu-fan-hate. |

My admiration for Koei games was developed by the history behind the characters and the chaotic battles which provides lots of peons to slaughter, though it gets repetitive, you at least have the choice to just breeze through rushing to complete your objectives or you can take baby steps slowly carving your way to peace. That and there's plenty of characters to choose from, rather than having just four to five eventually one can grow tired of the same five characters all the time even if they're favored above the others. |

What got me hooked on DW & SW was this basic concept: One man vs. an entire army in a free-roaming environment with swarms of peon soldiers waiting to be annihilated. All Koei had to do for me was to find creative ways to help me enjoy that. They continue to do that, so I continue to buy! Obvious extra features (beyond the basic concept above) that I enjoy are the leveling of characters, weapon upgrades, learning of skills and mission requirements. This may be a small addition, but I really enjoy the Interim Save feature. I don't have a lot of spare time, so I can't stand games that require you to complete the entire mission/stage/etc. before you get a chance to save. SW2 is by far my favorite game since it incorporates all of these. Soon though, WO will become my favorite since in addition to making improvements in these areas, it takes it a step further & makes tweaks in other areas of gameplay: 3-man team instead of bodyguards (trying to max them grew tiresome), incorporating the old double musou within the team to create musou burst, adding character types (sp, tech, pwr) to go along with moveset types. For those who complain about KOEI & their games don't take the time to notice these subtle tweaks to that same simple concept. Someone mentioned this in another thread but EA does similar tweaks to its sports games, yet they are always rated highly, whereas KOEI gets the short end of the stick. But that belongs in another topic so I'll end it there. Sorry for the long post guys/gals. |

The music, the fact that...in a way it could be considered "educational" on a count of the fact that most of the battles in the games actually took place. The females are beautiful! It gives us girls a say in the games! The stages are beautifully crafted too. |

Once I got playing it for a few games, I started to enjoy it for many more reasons. The maps are great and so is the music (well those were mainly from the first game I played...) The system is awesome and the violence is still there as well. It got me intrested in the history of the eras as well. And SW I liked coz I always liked Samurai

At first, I got into the game mainly because of the graphics and gameplay. That is what I usually looked for in games. When I got so hooked into DW5, I was more into the history then the gameplay factor itself. Oh yeah, the music was also a big factor that got me into these games as well. |

Well, reasons why I like Koei's games, it's : As Zhu Rong said, it could be an educative game, we learn history in the world. Asian History Design of DW and SW characters System of fight --> dynamics battles Two players The fact, I played DW (with others games before), changed my life. |

- They're easy to get into, and usually are a lot more forgiving than other games (usually). - Character interaction. The character interaction in Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors is, in my opinion, far deeper than most other companies' games. I have yet to see a single romantic relationship in a game that appeals to me as much as Sun Ce and Da Qiao. - Unique characters, for the most part. A few characters - in the English versions, at least - seem bland and generic some of the time, but for the most part, characters are fresh and interesting, and I care about them, even the ones I dislike. - I like a certain amount of predictability, to be honest. I like that the games have the same storyline, but at the same time, they expand upon it more each time. |

At first it was that hack and fight stuff. Until I later would get into Romance of the three kingdoms series, I really thought it was strange. Until I started to play it more, later I would like it! I got it to some of the history after that. Either way, I enjoyed it very much. I started to play lots of Koei games, now I pretty much play almost all of them. It depends if I have the time for them or not. It was just the style of the gameplay, and the fact it didn't have guns. |

I like games that throw a lot of things to kill at you. It's the best method for dealing with stress if you ask me. And it's fun. If I were head of KOEI, I'd take things a step further and increase the amount of enemies on the battlefield by 10% =P. |

One thing that makes me fond of Koei is the range of games they have to offer. First game that got me interested in the brand was Kessen II, at the time I had very little knowledge of the Three Kingdoms so didn't mind that rather odd story, but I adored the gameplay it offered. Simply an outstanding RTS game, from there I moved into Kessen III with even better story and gameplay, then after wanting more moved into the massive Warriors library, and now looking at other titles like Tactics and Bladestorm. That's one thing I like about them, there is a range of Strategy, Tactics & Action and all in their own ways combining each of them in some regard. For me that’s the perfect game, having to strategically battle your way through various scenarios in a generally action style is simply magnificent. Since then I've learnt more about the history and it allows me to appreciate what they try to achieve even more, the wealth of features combined in their games from history to strategy to action is an amazing and rather unique blend. |
