Yeah, I agree. Who says videogames can't be educational? The fact that most of these characters are based on actual people who existed in a time so different from our own really created a deeper sense of excitement to the games when I became more knowledgeable about the history. I don't think many game companies can say they've done what KOEI has done in this sense. How many other games take the history of another culture and adapt it so that people all across the world can enjoy it? And the best part is, us fans really DO get just as passionate about the actual history as the games themselves. I think that's the best part of Koei games.

Very true and is a large portion of why I became so fascinated after starting with Dynasty Warriors 2. Though I'm no history buff I do pick up on posts on many forums and gather information that might not be covered by the games, bit-by-bit. Then the next titles would come out and hopefully dig deeper into a characters actual history (also why I'm more fond of XL than Empires.) After all we all strive to know more and support our favorite characters more, and above all have fun learning more. Yes, it seems learning can be taught to be made into some fun! |

I love playing action adventure games. Koei mostly has that kind of genre. Plus, Koei workers design amazing characters' costumes. I love drawing fantasy-like outfits. I'm just too good at drawing
By analysing the costumes made by koei, it helps me to improve, improve and improve... The Koei characters are cool (DW, SW and Crimson Sea). All characters are nice and they have different personalities, e.g. the beautiful Zhang He in DW |

I started with the original one on one beat em up Dynasty Warriors for the PS1 and really enjoyed it although i didn't think it was as good as Soulblade or Souledge as it was called in other countries. However the way Koei redesigned and made the DW series what it is today really blew me away. These games are non-stop fun with education thrown in too. I've never really been into history but since playing this series i've actually become really addicted to the history of The Three Kingdoms. So much so that i have on order the four volume set of books of the Three Kingdoms, which should be in my local Waterstones on the 2nd Otober. Only two days to go! The fact that Koei tend to bring quite a few of Atlus games to the UK to is a big bonus for me too. Like Disgaea, Atelier Iris, Grim Grimoire, Persona 3 and the upcoming Persona FES. So Koei have all bases covered for me, hack 'n' slash, strategy and rpgs!

Well,to start off,i am already in love with hack-and-slash games, so u can see my colllection with games like Onimusha. Of course, Dynasty Warriors fits the bill very nicely, since it allows me to rape brainless peons without any trouble
That aside, Dynasty Warriors also attracted me for the story the game is based on. Should it be based on something like Europe(*cough*BladeStorm*cough*), i probably would toss it aside... |

I love the subtlety and simplicity of the game's design. Each game has also a nice roster of characters that are very well developed in design and story. I also enjoy role playing in battles I've learned about in school with mighty warriors that I would never forget. |

I like playing the series because it reminds me of when I first got my ps2 when they were released in the UK, DW2 was one of the first few games I played on it and I instantly fell in love with the non stop, simple, un-pretentious action. I'd played the first DW and thought it was god awful but Koei really outdone itself with the rest of the series. I know it sounds weird but I have some sort of strange bond with the series, I played every single game minus Gundam (bit geeky, sorry, my opinion). In fact, I hink im gonae stick on SW2 now

strangely, its first of all, because i'm foremost a bookworm, having been forced into being a fan by reading the actual unabridged Three Kingdoms already... secondly, being stressed out all the time due to work and social-and-or-lack-of-social-life stresses really makes a guy wanna beat the crap outta a buncha dudes! ^_^;; |

For me, It's because there so many character with different personality and not mentioned have a good story line. Like DW and SW, It's making me learn about Japanese and Chinese history. Making me woder how is World before I born. And sometimes I kind a fell have some relation with the officers that i played .. Heheh, I know it's sound funny ^^ |

Only Koei games I play are the Warriors games. I do like the history part of it. But I thnk mostly it's because of the characters and the gameplay. The battlefields have been getting better and so has character development. I just like to go through the different stories and see all the battles. In Empires I just like to rule my own force and have the strategies and everything. Koei is not my favorite game company, that's for sure. but for some reason I really like the Warriors games.

Ive always liked Koei's work because it its a breathe of fresh air from all of the NA made games. Shooter get really boring after so many, so playing a warriors or Kessen game really gave something extordinary. Also I love games that are about sword fighting and mounted horse back fighting like DW and SW. It is so much fun hacking away at your enemies, or have a long drawn out fight with a formidible officer. Kepp em coming Koei. But maybe spice it up a little and give us something new to try. Just thought I'd re-post, since my last post in this topic was in '07 ... My original post here was made during the height of my interest in KOEI games. Some things have [not] changed since then, so my opinion's been altered as a result. Lately, I've noticed that the same attraction I once had to KOEI Warrior games just isn't there anymore. I guess you could say the same old formula got a bit stale. Despite my best efforts to remain excited about the new releases, its just not the same. Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce is a major exception to this as KOEI has gone in a different direction with things, and for this reason I am liking the game more. The expanded combat system is a step forward and away from the previous games' mechanics. The demo has been really fun to play and I'm anticipating the full version release. Hopefully, this trend will continue and KOEI will create more new reasons to get interested in their games. Don't get me wrong, I still will pick up and play WO2 for more mindless hacking and slashing once in awhile, but it is getting old ... |
