I've tried to look for rules in regards to bumping.

I've read that double posting is not acceptable in most cases, however in the case of a topic which is many months old would I be able to post in it. Or would I be better off creating a new one?

Just some places warn for posting in topics which are some months old and want to ask before doing so. -_-

For me, I just post it. Besides posting a new one is not allowed as stated in the rules.

BTW, I wanna know what is bumping? <_<

Bumping topics is to prevent it from inactvity, so people keep posting in it.

Yeah, after been around here a bit longer I figured "bumping" rules don't exist; since duplicate topics aren't allowed it makes sense to post in an existing topic regardless of the last post date.

Well, people tend to bump the topic even though the rule doesn't exist. I just post it. I remembered, well, bumping, an old topic in the anime/manga section.

When I hear the word, 'bump' it almost always involves double-posting. It's not allowed and its a big waste of space.

Sometimes, bump can be used for certain cases like when you have something important to say. I think it's OK to do it that way. I haven't seen anyone abusing the bump thingy.

So double-posting is ok if its important right? Not that I do or have done or will do. Just asking.

Bumping means: "bump up my post" and it's allowed only if your previous post hasnt been replied to within 24 hours and you have something important to say or to add to your post.

Just like what he/she said.

So basically, you can post in an old topic as long as what you post has some relevance and/or gets the topic started again.

Reviving an old topic just to increase your post count is definitely a no-no. I have smelt some of them already. LOL.

Well of course, but posting something useful to an old topic should be ok.

Of course if it was a poll many months old and someone posted a one word answer for their vote it's more likely to be frowned upon I would assume.

Topics aren't auto-pruned, so you don't have to bump threads as much. If you have some insight in a topic, an opinion you want to share, etc. it's fine to post it in an old thread. However, spamming (including spamming being done to bump a topic) is, as you say, generally frowned upon.
