To date the Kessen titles have being adored by die hard fans, but that aside Kessen is not very popular in the game market. Can Kessen become something spetacular, and share even some of the success of the Warriors series? What would need to improve for this to happen? |

A lot of people laud the Kingdom Under Fire series for the Xbox as a successful tactical action game. I'm not sure exactly what makes it so different from Kessen II (well, other than the dragons and fantasy elements), but I think it serves as a good role model for similar games. Maybe if Kessen went back to the Kessen II gameplay and expanded it a little bit by making officers better/giving you more strategical options, it could make the gameplay more fun? |

what i personally think they should do is add one that is historically correct for the Sangoku Era. I mean the second one sucked and i'm currently playign the third wich i think is awesome. |

I think the second Kessen had decent gameplay. It's just that it was too short and not hard enough, in my opinion. The characters and plot could have used improvement though. Kessen III did better at that. |

That I agree with, Kessen II was woeful for historical value; at least Kessen III is very close with of course fictional aspects to add parts to the story. As for Slick, "More fun" - I think the games are fun but certainly not the pick up and play style fun we become used to from the Warriors titles - that I can understand. Kessen takes a while to get into before you can enjoy it, like most strategy games actually - but once you do I find them rather addictive and challenging. I think K3 was good enough to sell well, maybe it was poorly marketed or something; that and the fact the prior Kessens weren't amazing probably didn't help it either... Edit: The 2nd was good as well, but I couldn't agree more on being too short and easy; oh and add the terrible voiceover timing. >.> |

I think Kessen 1 actually did pretty well, but I'm not sure. Personally, I think all of the Kessen games are 10x more fun than Dynasty Warriors. Dynasty Warriors is very repetitive, and is more of an 'arcade fun' type of game, in my opinion. |

I always wanted Kessen II gameplay but with the Sengoku Era, but this time you get to control more than one force! I was looking forward to playing as the Tokugawa in Kessen III lol. |

More tactics. I think the gameplay in K3 is really good but it lacked the more tactical side of K2 (what I remember of it!)... I know you only got to choose out of 2 deployments/strategies but it was better than nothing. And I liked the way you built up your army and freaked other soldiers out (I just liked Cheng Yu D:) |

I agree about that kessen was lacking historical content If you went by that, half of the wei officers were chicks and the Zhuge Liang could fly But I still think it was a dam good game. As for what Kessen four what need. IMO A graphics overall and a cut scene every five minutes rather than ten seconds

I'm pretty sure all Kessen games have been very successful, but I'm pretty sure why other's prefer the Warrior games better is because of the 'control' you get over one person. This is more a strategical game series, and what most people want to to just play as one person. Or it could just be because the older generation prefers something different from the normal Dynasty Warriors Hack, N' Slash things. But in my opinion it is progressing rather well. I'd say it needs no improvement, Koei has already done very well with it's past other games. But it would be something different if they give you a one character control thing. - But that would totally ruin it's concept of 'Strategy' gaming. |

The greatest thing I would like to see would be the ROTK games and NA games combined with Kessen. The domestics and politics and such of the historical games with Kessen's battles. That would be crazy fun! |

Cheers! I enjoyed everything about Kessen 3 for the most part. But the combat at times felt a bit stale. The melee attacks basically follow the DW combo system only much more basic (X,X,X, /_\ formula). I'd like to see this improved upon. Many of the reviews I remember reading about Kessen 3 said that the combat was basically DW only with a whole squadron. If some changes were made, perhaps Kessen's gameplay would seem more engaging to gamers. I think it'd be awesome if you could do a "team attack" of sorts with all surrounding units. I think it does just fine in the strategy area. I like how both strategy and action are combined in Kessen 3. Also, I think perhaps a fresh storyline would be more appealing to a wider audience. Throw in some teenager's with Mechas battling an evil organization in a post apocalyptic world, you can't beat an original story like that! |

I wish they would bring back kessen and make it for the new generation consoles and the PS2 for people who don't own a PS3 or 360. I think Kessen was poorly marketed every time because I never remember seeing any adds or trailers for this great series. Kessen III had the best story every made by Koei and I wish they would make a story that well for all their games. Even the acting was really good in Kessen III. They should also throw in a 2 player like DW and SW has. More moves, characters, better graphics, and a fresh story can make the game amazing! |
Those who do not value the greatness of the Kessen series shall be struck down with the blade of virtue!

IMO, Kessen III is nearly perfect. If Koei makes a new Kessen, I think they should improve on the combat system (3X and a triangle is too simple) and with 2 players splitscreen I could see the game rise to the top of the list. |

indeed they should work on the combat system, maybe adding more complex possibilities for battling (like squarex7 + trianglex3 = Big spear move, etc.) + more officer skills. I love the strategy and story of Kessen 3 because it stays among the guidelines of history, but adds some fantasy such as the potato samurai theme for nagahide niwa. it makes me like it even more. and the gayness/fagotry portrayed in yoshiake ashikaga (mr. shogun) was very funny to me. So they could keep most of it's traits as it is. But if they REALLY wanted to step it up and make use of the massive room in the next-gen systems out these days (360 and ps3 with their massive amounts of gigs) They could add the availability of playing some of the many other forces out there. In Kessen 3, there are 2+ hours of cutscene time. Well imagine how much cutscene time you could put in the game if it were on a 360/ps3! But i think that when it comes to domestics in the game, i think it should stay the way it is. I like not having to worry about building farms and stuff, but rather to focus on the equipment of the individual characters. So i like that the game leads me to where ever it will go depending on what battles i play, but i don't want it to be like Nobunaga's Ambition. Does that make sense? In other words, the only thing i would change, that doesn't have to do with the battles, is multiple forces to pick from, more possible troop types/equipment for generals, and other than that i would like it if i could pick the equipment for my troops too. There are many possible things to add in that area. Troops, after a multitude of battles, should gain experience. it would be cool to pick what weapons you want your troops to use, considering what weapons the troops are experienced with, and how many troops you have in the battalion. in other words, more everything In battle, the graphics could also be better. especially before and after battles. You ever notice how, when nobunaga is rallying his troops before a battle, and after a battle declaring that they won, the generals behind him all have the same face? weird Also if they added more possible forces to play as, they should make more variety in the way the troops look as well as the sounds they make. Instead of the same old "ha-ha-ho-hing" sound that oda troops make, and the "hoya, haya, honi, hone" sounds that every enemy troops says when attacking. Also theres the look. The takeda loyalists troops for example, that shingen takeda personally used in the battle where upon you must fight him, when it stops and gives him a close up while he says some smack talk about nobunaga, you might have noticed what his troops looked like, they look the same as all the elite/tiger elite troops look. Well, although the earlier things i mentioned are more important, we are in next-gen systems now, get with it koei! There are many possibilities out there! The only problem is that i doubt anything i say will go noticed, nor that anyone will reply to this/read this anytime soon, so i guess i can only hope someone in the koei business can send this up there, otherwise it looks like my opinion, as usual, won't make much of a difference. except for voting in the koei site apparently.. |

IMO, focus. They simply need to continue making Kessen games, all the previous ones did greatly. KOEI is just too stubborn and lazy to continue making the series. I'm sure it's a gold mine there. Things they can improve, well, more units and strategical elements. I heard lots of people say that over and over and over and over and over again. Kessen II was more unique and original than III but I thought III was better in terms of action, fun factor, excitement , story, character development and game play. I easily got addicted to the game play in Kessen III. In II, the whole thing was more strategy type but less gameplay fun. I think Kessen should circle between the two kinds of games, just like the ROTK series. Of course, with each release they improve the 'add everything' policy suggested by Liang there (units, plots, characters, battles, maps, etc..). Multiplayer is something I look forward to, specialy on grand battles with bigger maps. Mini-missions and side request is also something great to add (better than the bandit campaigns in Kessen III, something really good I mean). |

They need the fighting system just a tad different than kessen 2 I think they should put the Kessen 2 feel into it again and make it so you are able to actualy fight the guys on the ground that way it will make it alot harder, such as fighting powerful generals. Because Ive always wanted to have an awesome sword/spear combat in games. |
