I was always confused with the history of tea, and always thought that the Chinese were the ones who made it, so was it made in China or India? Many countries call tea "Chi(Ch-y)" because the Chinese gave it to them. |

There's a Chinese legend that Shennong, one of the servants of the Yellow Emperor founded the tea. I don't remember much of the story, I'll look into it later. But Tea in fact originated in China. |

Haha its so great to be back from Singapore just to answer this ^.^ Yes credit of finding Tea went to Shennong of the three August ones. According to legend, Shennong had a transparent body to view his internal organs. He was the most famous patron god of medicine considering he was able to percieve his bodily changes by the sampling of various poisonous herbs and medicine. Once he sampled a leaf from a tree and he noticed things moving about his stomach as if conducting an investigation, thus the name "Cha" meaning observation and checking which turned into asimplified medicine the chinese radical of tea wich the same pronunciation. Althogether, he proved 981 herbs to be benign and 459 herbs to be poisonous. Legend has it that he once tasted 70 kinds of poisonous herbs in one day and used tea to counteract all. Nevertheless once he ate a small yellow flower growing on a vine and he saw his intestines breaking into pieces, tea was of course too late by then. the vine came to be known as "Duan Chang Chao". Literally translated the the herb that breaks intestines. The patron god of tea was Lu Yu who wrote a whole classic of Tea which dealt with all matters of tea from water source to preparing and serving and even tasting alongside ceremony. China's main drink is tea, hot tea is more readily available than water. Ask for ice and the people will look blankly at you. Its simply in their blood sort of. Nevertheless of the many tea Pu'er is the only one without caffeine and planted in Yunnan, a 40 year old Pu'er biscuit shaped tea could cost you well over 10000 RenMingBi!!! |

I love Yunnan tea, has this unique taste to it. Sichuan tea is also good. I remember when I was in Hong Kong, I was touring around the streets of HK and came upon this tea/herbal shop there was this particular tea that cost 500 U.S. dollars just for 1Lbs. Shesh...

You have to understand some have been kept well over 40 years ^.^ and the value of tea is in age (well not all, some are in fact poisonous) For instance Pu'er has been known to lets say if its 3 years old, one serving of such leafs can only be boiled thrice whereas if it was 14 years old can be boiled over 14 times and of course has much more values. Its been connotated to fighting cancer and prevent ageing. Tea like Tin Cha has this property of tasting like Ginseng and it helps with blood circulation. Oolong tea of course has the sweetest smell. IT is so intriguing and the chinese are really proud of them. Chinese in mainland China invests mainly in two things land and tea. It is crazy to imagine that their stock of tea tends to go up to even million dollar's worth in RenMingBi!!!! |
