Did not see a topic for this anywhere either. Got this from another forum and wanted to see what you guys and gals think. IMO: Overrated - Lu Bu - only abusable move is his C3. Not really much fun to play as. Its easy to see why he's top tier with a weapon (DW5) with any meaningful stat bonuses @ +20. Just lacks variety and versatility. Underrated - Meng Huo - fun to play as. great crowd clearing "ground pound" moves. C1 makes up for slow footspeed. Unusually strong horse charge attack that attacks the front making him strong on foot and horse. These will be matters of opinion, so please, no bashing anyone for theirs and they wont do the same to you. Although it would be nice if you could provide some backup for your argument it would be nice, dont just post: Sun Jian & Yue Ying. |

Overrated: Zhao Yun. I am getting really sick and tired of him getting all the promo work first in these games with intros, game covers, and especially with DW6 now. There are 46 other characters to chose from and they have to pick him along with Lu Bu... boring... >_> Underrated: Ma Chao. He has been around since Dynasty Warriors 2 and it just doesn't seem that alot of people enjoy this character one bit. He never seem to have stuck out in any of the intros or the storylines as much which is kinda sad for such a great character. |

Definitely. I hate all those Zhao Yun lovers that say he's the best in Shu when he's NOT. Underrated: Xiahou Yuan. It seems everybody over looks him because they prefer Dun and think Yuan is just a "copy of Huang Zhong". He's actually a good character. |

Overrated: Zhao Yun: For the series supposed cover boy, his moveset isn't exactly the best. Ma Chao: Yeah, he's good on a horse, but off of it, his moveset is unimpressive. Jiang Wei: This may be due to my personal hate of him, but I've always hated his moveset in the game. Underrated: Cao Ren: Great C3, C5, C6 and musou. Works best with the Ice Orb. Also has a great personality. Huang Gai: Good all around moveset, and has a nice personality IMO. Don't get why he usually ranks so low with players. Xu Chu: While being slow and dimwitted, he has a destructive moveset. |

Can I ask how Ma Chao and Jiang Wei are over rated? I have never seen them rated highly :wacko: Anyway... Overrated: Zhao Yun: Hes the coverboy, and his moveset is kinda weak. it lacks variation, his weapon isn't powerful, but he is everyones favourite <_< (i know not everyone, but he is the most favourited in the DW series -_-) Xiahou Dun: He isn't that great. People always say he is an excelent character, but I have never seen anything impresive about him... Underrated: Ma Chao. Everyone thinks he is bad, never thinks hes any good except horse, even though his attack on ground also are extremly good, even if some are hard to aim. He also never get a lot of attention from any battle except Tong Gate and such, never when under Shu. (that I can remember) |

Huh? Many people here say that he is one of the best. Personally, I don't think so, which is why he is put in overrated. I have also seen people praise Jiang Wei, despite him being very lackluster. Of course, this could be my parsonal hatred of him coming through. |

Over-rated Zhao Yun: Good god, he's on the cover on every single game! Even a beginner to the DW series would learn the basics with a better character. Ma Chao: The time he is actually USEFUL is on horse-back, and only if the horse is Storm Saddle or Red Hare. Lu Bu: If he didn't go into Hyper-Mode all the time as an opponent, Da Qiao could kick his ass. He's slow and stupid. Xiahou Dun: He gets a scmitar, so what? Under-rated Zhang Liao: A remarkably versatile and balanced character. He takes Guan Yu's moveset and upgrades it. Xiahou Yuan: Although overlooked, he is in fact a better character than Dun. Although the bow attacks integrated into his moveset are difficult to aim, he is still a good character. Pang De: Granted that he is a bit slow and two halberd are a tad unwieldy, he can still pack a punch. His later charges can do some heavy damage, especially if a weapon with an Evo Attack is equipped. |

Overrated: Xiahou Dun, he has a rather basic moveset yet so many consider him one of the best in the game. I personally can't see any reasons to suggest he is that good, not a bad character sure; but not as good as many make him out to be imo. Underrated: Xu Huang, I don't hear alot of praise for this guy but I find him one of the most enjoyable characters to use in the game. Not the most powerful or anything like that by any means - just has a great fun and challenge factor about him. |

overrated: Lubu: i think he is just a brute. You dont need to be skilled to use him. Machao: i really just dont like him. he needs a personallity underrated: Diao Chan: ok her musou is poor but she's good for killing officers one on one. most of her attacks seem to focus on one person at a time pushing them away from crowds. |

Hell no, Jiang Wei sucks big time... even in DW5XL. And Yes Zhao Yun is one of Shu's best and I can prove it, his ice rate is very very high with his c4 and his c5 can break through defense whil true musou can scatter crowds, also his defense is one of the best! Im still glad you guys dont like Zhao Yun though! I dislike him when I saw him in DW6 walking through water! that made me sick! when he was fighting against Lu Bu... I was like oh noo..... I didnt like that one bit! kazxjun, Zhao Yun only appears in DW2 and DW5 intros...DW4 had all Wu. |

The first bit you said about Zhao yun proves he is overrated IMO :lol: The DW6 Intro seems worse than the DW5 Intro from what I've seen though. DW5 one seemed humanly possible, but this 1 has him running on water, basically nuking ships, and then who can forget torpedo spear (thats what I call when he uses one hand to launch his spear at Lu Bu's weapon -_-) Also, at least when the DW4 Intro had all Wu, it wasn't only 1 person. It also showed Cao Ren, but thats like saying that DW5 showed Cao Pi

Overrated Lu Bu:Ya He's soo powerful that my sister has to use him to stay alive!!!!! although he is strong in every way like every one faces him at some point! Zou Ci:Another powerful guy just like lu bu <_< thanks alot koei we really need antoher lu bu <_< Underrated Pang tong: He needs some tweeks but his move set except his 1st 3 charges rule he doesn't appear enough but he is my favourite charactor |

Overated ======== Zhao Yun:Im getting sick of seeing him on every game cover and in most of the intros,he isnt the best either. Ma Chao:Only praised because hes a beast when on Horse,otherwise i dont see anything good about him. Lu Bu:Hes good,but just really overated Underated ========= Xiahou Yuan: Hes really good but everyone seems to like Dun and Huang Zhong more. Huang Gai: He has a really good moveset and crowd control,he may be a little slow but hes really good. I dont get why everyone hates him. |

Overrated: Ma Chao. Let's face it, this guy is only respected since he's the strongest character on mounted. I've never met a player who would have been his fan since DW2/3. However, his C3 and C6 are ok, Jump Charge is effective when surrounded and S string works well against generals. Underrated: Lu Meng. Players tend to to think him as inferior to Zhang Liao but I disagree. His S string isn't any worse and while his Charge attacks seem ineffective, they're abusable and I've always liked his Musou. The classic "poke poke poke" is devastating against crowds and generals, especially if he's equipped with Wind Scoll. |

Well now you have I didn't think he was the best in all those games, but I was still his fan. He owned, but not as much as some IMO at first... Maybe its just because in DW2 and DW3 they were almost exactly/exactly similar to other peoples :mellow: |

Characters that are to be summarized as overrated are characters that are being use to the excessive degree which people get tired of hearing/thinking/seeing about 24/7 in the media. Such prime examples: Zhao Yun, Guan Yu, and Lu Bu. I don't know why you guys use Ma Chao as an example. All he does is fight like hell on horseback not get mention in every storyline, or show up in intros, game covers, or promos that comes out. |

Overrated:Guan Yu-The fact i hate about his moveset is the abilty to juggle then cword clear.You can keep juggling with C1,C2 or C3 but they will eventually somersault out of it.His C4 is a good cword clearing but the fact is,once you juggle and starts to use C4,you can barly hit them away. Underrated:Sima Yi-The fact is,lots of people say he got horrible stats.But who cares,his moveset is awsome,except his C3.His musou helped me the most as its one of the best peon killling musou. |

Remember kazxjun, these are merely opinoins. What you say has merit, but lets face it, when you watch someone play Ma Chao and all they do is stay on horseback the whole time, it can get a bit old. Alot of the people on the Kongming forum made a similar point about Guan Yu, and I thought that was a pretty lame reason, but when I see a constructive reasoning behind an opinion like MitsunariIshida's here, I respect it more. |

Overrated: Zhao Yun, and Lu Bu IMO are overrated. Zhao Yun: Very linear for most of his move set with the exception of his C4 and Musou. Koei may have made him the main poster character, but IMO he is just not that good of a character. Also Koei hardly changed Zhao Yun in DW6 but at least some of his moves where changed and he has the godspeed special yet it seems quite similar to what Yukimara has with his C1 move. Lu Bu: I agree with a lot of people saying Lu Bu is the most overrated dominant character in DW series. Lu Bu even appeared in Samurai Warriors survival mode at the very end of the last stage. Only useful moves that Lu Bu has is his C3 and C6 and that pretty sums up Lu Bu's power. But since Lu Bu's weapon changed in DW6, he might be unique on the move list yet still be on the overrated list.  Underrated: Diao Chan, Simi Yi, Zhou Tai Diao Chan: Not many players like Diao Chan's innocent and elegant personality and her move list may not have been good against crouds, however against generals or one vs one duels IMO she can be a very deadly character. Diao Chan's C1 Slide, C4, and her C6 are the only decent moves against crouds yet nowhere near as good as other characters. Her C3 was very hard to control since Diao Chan is dancing around. However before they changed her C5 in DW5. Her C5 alone in DW4 is what made her deadly against 1 vs 1 generals. Her C5 3 hit air juggle are all elemental attacks and using Vorpal Lv4 orb can wipe out any named general off the map. As for DW6, not only does she look ten times better...even better then Zhen Ji IMO but her weapon in DW6 could very well put her as the top DW girl which is a huge change compared to the previous DW games. Simi Yi: Not nearly talked about since they might prefer Zhuge Liang over Simi Yi yet Simi Yi does have a very good croud clearing C4 plus his Musou does quite a lot of damage upclose with his lasers. Simi Yi is also a bit harder to control compared to Zhuge Liang but it's nowhere near as bad as some other characters that are very much linear on their move list. Basically his C1 from DW4, C4, C6, and his Musou can bring anyone down to his knees. I believe Simi Yi will be quite interesting in DW6 since he has those extendable string claws slashing around. Zhou Tai: Not certain if he is underrated or not but since hardly many people mention him overall, he has quite a good move list with the exception of his C5 move but I thought he was a very solid character including his musou is devastating against Generals. When I first saw Zhou Tai in DW4, I thought he was like a Samurai the way that he attacks, but then I learned that he was just a pirate like Gan Ning. IMO I believe there is alot more to this pirate then just plundering gold. IMO Zhou Tai was a nice change of pace compared to the other DW characters and has a good move list to back it up. Not certain as to how he'll play in DW6 but I think it'll be just as good as before. (Whew even at times I don't realize that I type alot. I apologize if my reply was indeed longer then I expected)

I still don't see why everyone says Ma Chao is Over Rated, when noone thinks hes good off horse :wacko: I mean I see hundreds of people say hes no good off horse, only a few say hes good off horse... Really if thats over rated, then I don't know what isn't <_< I am respecting your opinion and all, but seriously, I want to know why so many people say he is over rated <_< I personally think hes under rated for exactly what I said. There is more, I said this on the 1st page...but basically its because noone thinks hes good off horse. He has some amazing moves off horse, but I have seen at max 3 people say any of them are good

You do have a good point Sanada. That's kind of why I put him as the third last spot on the overrated list. I wasn't certain myself as to truly why he was overrated but most people have mentioned it because he was only truly recognized by his mount attack plus his charge move was extremely good back in DW4. That's most likely the huge reason that Ma Chao is being overrated on yet it can be argued upon since his ground movelist is okayish at best. Actually tell you what, since it has been quite a long time that I have played DW4 and I really don't remember most of his attacks, I'll go ahead and play it on my PS2 import and see what ground moves Ma Chao has that does work for him very well. |

I've forgotten his DW4 moveset as well. In fact, I can only remember his DW2 and DW5 :wacko: I really liked his ground moveset above quite a large selection of others though. In fact, all of the rest of Shu, and most of Wei, Wu and Other. He is my 4th tops fav in DW5, and I almost never stay on horse for even small fights... |
