Well I think it's about time this guy got his own topic. One of Wei's best and most important generals. Really, I feel that he was better than his brother (cousin in history). Yes both were pretty good but Yuan had a few more accomplishments under his belt and was a seriously badass general. Especially when it comes to raids. That is why Koei's potrayal of him upsets me. He's far to mellow and seems a little laid back. And though his MS was pretty useful it doesn't match the way he should be. They need to change his personality to be more serious and a little more forceful. And whatever they do to him he needs to attack pretty fast to match his recognition for his lightning fast raids. What do you guys think of Yuan. |

WOW... about time, nice one my Lord. Truth - I don't like him very much, he is one those "slow walkers", he attacks slow and it's always feel like a copy of Huang Zhong ( or other way around? ) Anyways, another one of those characters I would only use if I had to. |

That's what pisses me off so bad. He should not be an inferior version of Huang Zhong. If anything he should be much faster and stronger than him. Were it not for their disadvantage of being at the bottom of the mountain Yuan would've crushed Zhong for sure IMO. P.S. Thank you my vassal. I thought it quite strange that he didn't have his own thread. |

Xiahou Yuan. Possibly my favorite Wei general. An incredible commander in history who had many victories and was an expert at quick raids. In game, he has always been better than Huang Zhong to me, and was arguably the best character to play as in Chaos Mode in DW5 due to the fact that if you had Ice Arrows equipped, you could just use his C1 and never be touched. Now, for DW6, I would like a much more leaner and quicker Yuan. They can keep the personality, though, as it is one I actually like. Perhaps make him a bit more sarcastic, though. |

Xiahou Yuan has always been one of those characters I didn't like but I didn't hate. The thing that bugged me was his weapon. To me, it just doesn't seem to suit him at all in my opinion. His moveset is okay, nothing fancy. If he fought with a bow like Ina but with a good moveset, then maybe I would like him more as a character. |

I definitely would not want Yuan with a bow. IMO, he needs to distance himself from bow based attacks, or he will once again be similar to others, like SSX and most likely Huang Zhong, as before. What I would want is a very impressive spear or a quick sword, like a Shamshir. |

Well he did have Scimitar (in Dynasty Warriors 2 and 3) but that how it got changed to a Battle Rod. Him having a spear? How is that going to distance him from other characters? He will just end up being like Zhao Yun then. They should have just stuck with the Scimitar on him like his cousin/brother Dun, that would be more logic I would think. |

I think he'd be perfect if his personality and model resembled Kessen 2. As for his weapon I suggested on another thread a 9 ring dao or maybe a type of glaive. |

He would work great with a Shamshir, but to weild it, he would have to become much smaller, I think. I just can't imagine a man of his current size weilding a sword that thin. He needs to be about the size of his cousin or Zhao Yun and wear armor heavier than Dun, but lighter than Zhao Yun, IMO. |

i like his personality, it could be better though, same with his ms, its alright, but it could be a whole lot better that what it is, and as its been said already, i dont like that him and huang zhong have been seen as pretty much the same character, i just hope that they will be completely different in dw6 |

I love Xiahou Yuan in the novel and from what I know of him in history and I can't say that I like him that much in the games. To add on to him being a copy of Huang Zhong or vice-versa it always feels as though he barely compares to Xiahou Dun and many other Wei officers in terms of face time. I swear I think the only Wei officer I see less in cutscenes and such other then Xiahou Yuan is Xu Huang. Basically, I agree that I would love to see Xiahou Yuan get a nice overhaul and turn into a solid and complete general. I wouldn't even mind if he kept the attitude that he has as much...just switch the moveset, maybe trim him up and make him interesting. Oh and no to a bow weapon, I'd think that play too much into him being Huang Zhong's rival. I still don't understand why he even got the bow attacks in the first place, other then being Huang Zhong's rival. |

Well the good thing is that there was a rumor about Yuan geting the biggest overhaul out of any Wei character. Hopefully it's for the better. |

I've always detested how Koei has made one of Wei's best men a "fat lame Huang Zhong". I do like how his personality has developed over DW5 and WO though (escpcially his Oscar Madison to Zhang He's Felix Unger), but otherwise his potrayel is poor. Fat, slow, mediocre. He shouldn't be like Huang Zhong AT ALL, IMO. They are pretty much polar opposites. >_> ..... The shamshir is an interesting idea, and I'm hoping (but doubting) that Koei doesn't make a bow character for each kingdom. Huang Zhong sure as hell needs the bow only moveset though, and it bugs me they revealed SSX of all people as the bow character. >_> |

In DW4 the main reason I didn't like him was because he looked and acted like my piano tutor who was seriously weird. Also, he was fat and slow and it really annoyed me. In DW5 he got better. I do quite like his personality but he was still a bit like Dun's ... how shall I say it? Like his "special" brother ... albeit a lot less "special" than DW4 >> He does need a makeover. His personality can be developed more; I like his humour and the fact that he's a bit odd (though I hope Koei don't keep going all panto on us here) but his weapon needs to go. |

Xiahou Yuan is awesome one of my favourite Wei generals, in RTK 7/8 I always use him, he's also great in Dynasty Tactics... so why does he suck so much in DW?? like everyone else I am very disappointed with what koei has done to him in DW, his DW6 design is only slightly better than his previous ones but he's still a bit too chubby for my liking, the weapon is ok though. The perfect Xiahou Yuan would be a leaner more sinister and ruthless one with say a rapier? at the moment he is like a grumpy next door neighbour or something. Not very fitting for one of Wei's best and most feared generals. |

The leaner meaner thing is good but I'd prefer that he keeps his dao. It has got to be one of the coolest looking swords Koei has ever made. |

xiahou yuan rocks on everything his weapon was awsome the enforcer rod had its own unique power to it as well as he was an awsome character to play as in dw 3, 4, and 5 and on top of that in 6 they give him back that huge sword in dw 3 only made it bigger and better looks like the sword used in jet li's fearless in the fight scene with master chin i think his name was only the sword was smaller B) overall im pretty sure hes going to rock in dw6 :lol: !!!!!!!!!! |

Compare him with Huang Zhong. He is much better. In DW5 musou, 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th charge is similar 3nd charge: He can hit with larger area than HUang Zhong arrow and hit more with greater power. 6nd charge:L So much better than Huang Zhong. hit 4 hit, double with HuangZhong double slash. |

Probably my favorite character. The only flaws I've seen about him in the past games were the same as what Xu Zhu has. Fat and slow. I'm one who can get over that because it's not unbearable. I loved his rod weapon in the previous games. And I much preferred his MS & 4th weapon over HZ's, IIRC. He has plenty of personality (fierce/aggresive in battle, caring and funny outside of battle). His outfits have been boring but it was meant for war, like quite a few other warriors have. I would have been ok with KOEI keeping his rod or just a bow & arrow for DW6. I've never rly cared for characters with big swords because its soooo mainstream and has been done before every which way. I dislike that his weapon is now even more similar to HZ's. But I won't make any judgements on him till I play the game since I refuse to watch anymore gameplay videos! |

This guy isn't to great in my opinion. And Koei portrayed him as a fat, hairy man. With his open **** exposing his hairy stomach. Gross... But on the bright side, he has a pretty good moveset with his bow and sword! |

Well speaking from personal experience, he plays pretty good in DW6. He attacks pretty fast for someone who looks like he would be slow and has good stats. And for some reason I just love using his throw. Also the innate fire move he has is great too. And in game, he doesn't really look that fat. The fact that his stomach is exposed just makes it look that way. |

By far one of Wei's best, save for Zhang Liao and Sima Yi at the time. Also, one of Cao Cao's most trusted generals. I for one, found him rather badass in DW5, and it was his best outfit yet, his rod simply owned his foes easily by attacking fast, and in a wide range. People who call him fat and slow, that isn't really it. Xu Zhu is fat, Meng Huo, is fat. Compared to both of them Xiahou Yuan is just a regular guy. |
