I'm sure a high level Magician squad could take u down...maybe....

Controlled by a player, probably. I haven't come across any magicians yet, but if they're like the rest of the game's AI, they aren't likely to actually notice me in time to attack. It seems enemies don't differentiate between melee and cavalry in terms of sight distance, or just not enough, which is something they should probably fix in a potential future Bladestorm, as most are perfectly content to wait until you're mere meters away before turning to look at the hooves in their faces.

As far as leveling...
I'm only at 70-whatever because I want to max out my 3-star fame before proceeding in the story (I preemptively maxed 1- and 2-star fame the same way). I haven't always been at such a high level, but Lancers in particular have always been awesomely effective after a little leveling. However, having tried and given up training Camels, I understand that those initial levels are a real pain, especially if you're maxing Research first.

Favorite unit/s to command?

For me, it's Cavalry, hands down. I think Macv12 has explained the reason for this.

Although if you don't watch those long spears or pikes whenever you are on a Charging spree, and if they are the same level or slightly higher level than your cavalry, well... let's just say the results aren't pretty.

Bows are also one of my favorites to use, although not as frequent as Cavalry. For some reason, I just like to snipe any unit from far away, and then use Attack-Up pennons (Anger, Rage, Relentless Fury, Shiva's Wrath), then fire away! It's just a little bit frustrating if the targets/troops that you stumble upon are Knives and Rapier Squads. <_<

There isn't a particular unit that I dislike - maybe it's because I haven't fully, shall we say, gotten the feel of them in the battlefield.

Oh no! Horses, halberds and spears are all I'm good with! What do I do now?

Also, I recently (i.e. I haven't played this in a couple weeks) encountered Chariot enemies...I hate them. There is no unit I like killing them with. Not that I can't kill them, but I do dislike them.

I've changed my mind about what units I like to command. It's now the Riflemen (Explosives Book). ^_^

... not the Hand Cannoneers or the Firespear Units. <_<

Lancers. Just so cheap. Aside from that, Halberds are awesome, and Swords I level so I can kill units solo.

Akechi Mitsuhide(WGXH)
*Ruler*
Perks: Arms Expert (Mitsuhide's soldiers take less damage from muskets)
Tennozan Charge: Mitsuhide may use this skill to have any Akechi unit quickly gain speed and get to high ground or any advantegeous spot of Mitsuhide's choosing.
Musket Blitz: If Mitsuhide has ashigaru teppou or samurai gunmen and some melee troops, he can use this skill to have his gunmen fire into an enemy unit's van while his melee soldiers attack an enemy's flank, thus causing good damage and confusion of the enemy ranks.
Vengeful Onslaught: When on the battlefield with Oda, Tokugawa, or Toyotomi forces, Mitsuhide's soldiers can do more damage if this ability is used.
Family Allies: When on the feild with Akechi Hidemitsu, Mitsuhide may use this skill to have his entire unit gain a morale boost.
Musket Master: Mitsuhide and his men all fire in one synchronized volley. Mitsuhide may injure the enemy commander, and the enemy suffer heavy damage.
War: 84
Akechi Mitsuhide= 10,300 ashigaru, 8,700 teppou ashigaru, 200 yakuza, 700 shinobi, 130 reapers, 2,000 sohei, 3,440 samurai

Royal Lancer's are just easily the most effective units in the game. I remember when I first saw them with Edward and was witnessing how slow they were moving, and actually expected that it was the maximum speed for them lol. But seriously, horses dominate the game due to the maps being so big and you wanting to complete the missions within the period of time. Mine are just now level 83, I think.

Anyone like the shortbows? I don't, I feel that the range is so inferior to the longbows and the elite bowman. Long shot is just too awesome at taking out units with an unfair advantage, and causes panic within the enemy lines, making them run riot not knowing where to go or what they are doing. All you have to do is just aim for the squad leader as well.

Royal Lancers = badass. When I saw Ed using them I was just like "WANT."
And so every time I see them availiable in Recruits I always go buy them.
Cavalry types are easily my favourite; nothing quite as exhilarating as mowing pikemen from the side >8D I can't wait til I'm a high enough level to mow actual officers down 8D

In terms of crap, I have to say I'm useless at bows and therefore they're my worst unit. =/

yes, royal lancers are awsome, but not as good as the rifles, the kick so much ass, its...actually quite funny....especially when at a high level, mine are at level 50-60 something, but i cant find the last page of the book, so i cant get the book at 100% growth <_<

Yes, but you must note that you only get that unit at the latest stage of the game. Whereas Horses are there from the start and will be so much more trained and useful in controlling the battles due to their speed. And yes, people are saying how good the Camels are, but once again, you get those quite a while after. Thus they will be of little relevance to you compared to the Horses unit.

Horses dominate the game because they are open to you from the beginning. Otherwise, if you were to get them later or in the middle area of the game they will be not as good or praised as often.

take level 80 cavalry into a 4 red-star fame battle, fight long spears and prepare for death in big bold red numbers

And levelled magicians will take you out before you can even say "OMG NOOOOOOOOOO" when you see them dawdling after you.

I still say, after starting to play the game again... ROMAN SPEARS are the best :D Well, any race of spear-wielders, as long as they are of the triple thrust/mighty arm/javelin variety. Takes out cavalry, bowmen, halberds, camels, magicians, rapiers... a good levelled spear unit will pwn everything.

I have to agree with the pwntage of spears. I started using them from the beginning, and they have got to be my second-favorite unit, easily and by far my favorite melee-type. Swords are good, too, because they will let you beat very easy stages without troops and use some really cool troop types (Samurai, Ninja, sickle-sword guys).

However, I've recently decided that Magicians are not very impressive. 99% of the times I've come across them on horseback, they use Lightning right in front of me (but not actually on me), then stand there as I mow them down. They did manage to catch me once, then pretty much rape me, but I escaped and exacted holy vengeance on them.

I still laugh when I come across Long Spears on the battle field. Even against horses, if you just go around their points, you can blow them over, and then they no longer have any kind of formation, so you can run by as many times as necessary to take them down, or just dismount and personally murder the leader. Everyone else mauls them, of course. The most pitiful thing I've seen in this game is an officer using Long Spears.

That's the thing with magicians - their defense is useless, so once you get them... they're over.

However... their magic is extremely powerful so once THEY get YOU... you're done XD

ha, thats the only thing i dont like about the magicians, the total overbalance of power, where theyre defences are all but non-existant, and there offence is all but off the chart

I like magic and sword users. My favourite unit is the Samurai. They last for a long time.
I hate Horsebows. I dislike Archers but they are worse on a horse. For me, a Horse unit with charge is useless. I also dislike Chariots, they move strangely...

The ninja's with the knives are just incredible when levelled up. They are fast moving and barely have to stop at all since the daggers do all the work whilst constantly moving. You basically just run throughout the stage and at fast speed as well.

Man, those samurai's can just rip through anything, especially when levelled up and using sword wave. I agree with the horsebows, but im starting to like the lowbowmen, but i still say that rifles are the ultimate long range unit, cause i was doing that request with Diane where you had to defeat those "two" units, which end up being four, and all i needed was my rifles, only lv 65, and take down 4 royal lancers, at 14 stars :P but chariots can be really fun, they can just mow down all unit at the right level :P

LDZ: hmm...that might have been my problem while using nijas, i stoped to fight -_- guess i shouldve done running attacks and retreating?

They are best used with the hit and run tactic. Once you get them to around level 30 their speed will be amazing, especially in the Zeal state. This is why if you've noticed how quickly that the dagger skill charges back up. Seriously, just keeping throwing those daggers as much as you can, and fleeing with their circle skill when needed or getting across the map. The triangle attack is best used when fleeing at a disadvantage as well, since it trips the enemies up. Or you can just use it when closing in on them after using the daggers, etc.

Well, for the moment, I haven't played/found all the units, but for those I've already played (Basic units in fact XD), my favorites are :

- Sledgehammer/Heavy Armour Masses ? (I don't know the name in English, I controlled it once XD Didn't succeed yet to find them anywhere else XD)
- Epeist Infantery (Sword with Tsunami Power ^^)
- Knight Cavalry (They've long spears like Azai Nagamasa weapon & get a Protection Aura very usefull for Cavalry)
- Sword & Shield Infantery (Shield is a good adds to stun enemies)
- Also Spears or Halberd units are good to use ^_^

Least units to commands, don't know yet ^^''''

Love using: Spears (My best, preferably the normal spear type :D ), Cavalry (Mostly Lancers), Halberds (Powerful)
Like: Swords (Only a few, like Greatsword, Samurai and I think Twin Swords), Knife (Mainly ones like Assasin and Ninja)
Hate Using: Long Spears (What a joke...), Archers, Chariots.

Yeah, spears are my main unit, don't really use range units that much. :)
