Talking in Cutscenes; So, why doesn't 'your' merc speak?

It just seems weird... when your merc doesn't talk in any of the cutscenes.

I guess, it would seem a bit more... hmm what is that word?.. Immersive? If it was otherwise.
Only two cut scenes where I seen the merc be acknowledged as a living being... ?

Well, I havn't gone past 4 stars yet...

Well, more specifically the taverns and I guess I'm in the French Side of the story...

Well, really, only 2 chars have acknowledged my existence...

Its an old war wound...vocal cords were either severed in an interrogation or they were harmed some other war during the war... -_-

Who knows.

Game deadlines most likely.

Hmmm... good point.

I have no clue maybe too hard to code/write for the choices of voices in the game....

TBH I don't really want to hear any of the mercenary edits speaking any more than they have to -_-!

I've had:
Edward
Barkeep
Magnus
Georges
Marc
Henry Percy
Branwyn
Barkeep ;)

acknowledge me personally either in cutscenes or in the tavern :s All the mercenary does is give everyone evil looks back XD

Reminds me of my kids when I tell them something like:

Feed the dog/cat
Do your homework
Take out the trash
Go to bed
My turn to play a game

Yeah thats pretty much the same look I get from them.

Absent or who do you think you are telling me what to do <_< -_-

I think it's along the lines of personalizing your character. Yeah I know, it sounds like a lame excuse but if the character you made doesn't speak, it means that you can imagine how he or she sounds like. Preferably in your own voice maybe. But that's the same strategy that GTA has been taking before Vice City. Or even a more renowned example, the recent additions to the Elder Scrolls series (Morrowind+Oblivion).

Hmmm... you know something I've played Morrowind and Oblivion for countless hours and never noticed/realized that my charecter does'nt speak

Oh well still great games just like Bladestorm.

Why mess with a proven formula.

Probably didn't notice because the Oblivion characters are so much more unique and customisable. That's why it doesn't particularly bother me, anyway.

is it just me who is annoyed by the fact that whatever anyone does, whether is be Joan of Arc pouring her heart out, or Marie blasting me for helping the english, but no matter what happens, your mercenary remains as emotionless and dull as a marble statue, it just bugs me, sorry, just had to say that -_-

Yes, me too. The only time I saw the mercenary move was at a story battle in Flanders... in the ending movie Philippe le Bon asked me to continue to fight for France. Then he bowed and walked away. But he never speaks! What use does it have picking a voice at the start? Only you hear "Raise shields" or "Stand firm" when you do a shield guard.

This topic is very similar.

Other than the fact that he doesn't speak, he does move and use body coordination to figuratively react and speak for itself. So I wouldn't call him entirely emotionless.

This idea of the silent protagonist was initially due to limited game space...back in the SNES days. Now it's due to design team laziness. There are two game series that I love: The Legend of Zelda, which has a silent Link (though at least they started making him gesture faintly emotively in Twilight Princess) and Ratchet and Clank, which has the expressive and flamboyant Ratchet. Which game do I like better? Hands-down it's Ratchet & Clank. Even though the game studio decided for me what they wanted Ratchet to say and sound like, at least he says something and that makes him far more a powerful character than someone who will at the most grunt. Don't get me wrong, I love playing as Link, but I'll hold Ratchet's banner any day because he actually has character.

I wanted to say that the lack of recognition was due to the time period (nobles didn't often associate with non-nobles if they could help it and unfortunately our mercenaries fit that 'ignore' category), though we are referred to in several cutscenes - the one that comes to mind was after one of the early English battles whose name escapes me but was the first to make use of longbows. Anyway, at the end Edward made this big speech, made eye contact with my character conveniently hidden from the camera by his horse, then he rode off. I was thinking Yeah, go team, whatever but the merc was trying to look inspired.
I've gotta break out, I need a way out,
I don't believe it's gotta be this way,
The worst is the way that
In this room I'm suffocating

My character, Ilouispa, is basically totally white and blonde, and he's covered in Japanese Samurai armour, so I don't blame nobles for not talking to him when he looks like a bit of a wally.
Please help my Pokémon grow!
