Excerpt taken from The Richmond Guardian, 1895
A curious example of "losing and finding" was instanced recently. A member of The Guardian staff, so sojourning at Mordialloc, found a volume lying in the scrub, some distance from the township.

On the fly-leaf of the book a label showing that the book was presented in 1882 to one Anne Wilcox, at the Cremorne-Street Wesleyan School.

The book lay at this office, and a request was made in these columns that the owner would call for it. Some time later it was claimed and though finding of the book at Mordialloc by a Richmondite was strange, a more interesting sequel remains. It appears from the statement of the claimant, that in 1882 two sisters named Wilcox were to receive prizes at the annual distribution. One got hers, but the other prize was somehow lost, and the expectant scholar never received it, as no trace of it could be found.

Considerable annoyance was felt about this at the time in the household concerned, and now, after a lapse of twelve years, the book falls into the hands of the original owner in the manner described above, through the medium of The Guardian. She had never seen it before but knew that she was entitled to a volume bearing the title (which in itself is a peculiarly significant one) "The Pledge That Redeemed Itself".
