No, what it proves is what horrible language quarks we have, and how so many terms we use have a wrong meaning. Seriously, with all the lingo we have, its a wonder how anyone can truely learn the English language. Its no surprise to me that its been proven that English is one of the hardest languages to learn. |

Thats true, but for someone that doesnt speak it, maybe if they are Italian or something. Then it will be much harder for them to learn English then it would be to learn o something like German, or Spanish, or French or whatever. |

All languages have their difficulties. It just depends on what your native tongue is. If your language is English then you will have a harder time learning something like Arabic or Russian. If your native language is Arabic or Chinese then it maybe harder for you to learn English. |

My mother-in-law got her driver's license photo taken while wearing a sweatshirt from the zoo that said "Hippo" on it Normally the chest area doesn't show up in those photos, but I think the photo clerk made an exception in her case

Why did you refer to Italians in particular <_<? By the way, I can assure you that languages like German, Spanish, French and Italian are harder to learn than English FOR ANYONE, because of their complicated basics (genders and plurals for adjectives, articles, participles, etc., and many tenses *Italian has more than 20, just to make things clear*, for example), as Selli and Nasser said too. My brother can't write English (he learnt French instead), but he can understand some written English nevertheless, for the reason mentioned above. This should mean something. I've always thought that you native English speakers are lucky, since English is practically mandatory on the Net. You don't have to learn their languages to talk with German, Spanish, French, Italian, etc., people. My Italian is very correct and proper, but it's not of much use for the websites I usually visit, alas. |

I'm glad I'm native English but that's something I didn't know with so many Japanese sites I was beginning to think people from Japan are lucky they even get stuff we don't get in US. also everyone here speaks English so well I'm shocked to hear so many of you had to learn. Now I feel stupid I mean I almost failed English and was good in French but I don't understand any french at all I missed so many class in all (no I didn't cheat)

Thats the written text part, believe me thats the harder part of the actual thing, actually saying phrases has been much easier... at least for me... Theres always Romanji aka the "couple of lines" now using the Alphabet... Edited by Oblivion, Fri Mar 20, 2009 1:53 pm.
