Characters: For Koei's Dynasty Warriors series, it's characters are without a doubt it's best asset. The numerous characters, each assigned to their own kingdom, have become the pinnacle of the Dynasty Warriors series. Their notable achievements, distinct (in some cases bizarre, e.g. Zhang He) personalities, and different combat styles have appealed to many fans from all over the world. Just from my time spent on Koei Warriors, I know that many fans have strong attachments to these characters. For instance, I, myself, adore Sima Yi. Heck, I'll keep playing DW 20 as long as I can still play as Sima Yi! Why is that? Because I've playing this series since the 3rd installment, and Sima Yi and others have become important to me... . I've read about their accomplishments in Romance of the Three Kingdoms and I'm always curious to see what will and what won't be incorporated into each new installment regarding the famous generals. I always anticipate the new flamboyant costumes and other changes made in their appearance. But most importantly, I enjoy playing as them, because each warrior provides their own outlook on the war that effected their lives so greatly.

Gameplay: Oh yes, the gameplay! Although bashed for being stale and repetitive, and gameplay has kept fans hooked for 6 core games and numerous spin-offs. Although the old system of gameplay WAS getting a bit dull in my eyes, I believe that the renbu system in DW6 is a fresh step in the right direction towards more exciting gameplay. From what I've seen in videos, the combat is flashier than ever. The gameplay is what always has me anxious for each new DW. I'll never forget the feeling of freedom and satisfaction I got when playing as Zhao Yun, the battle of Hu Lao Gate for the very first time, endlessly slaying hundreds of peons.

Now I could easily just stop playing the DW series, but in a way I'd feel like I'd miss the experience of being able to choose my favorite warrior and single handedly defeating an army...

EDIT: I think I did it wrong, I guess we were supposed to talk about Koei games in general, but I focused on DW... maybe I'll edit this later then... -__-;

Characters: The Characters in Koei games is what really amazes me. Some things about Koei games are easily dislikeable(Generic styles, bad VAs, not every character having a story mode etc.), but the characters, appearances, personalities, movesets, how they interract with each other makes the game much more interesting and enjoyable

Music: Whether it's Dynasty Warriors' Rock mosic, or Samurai Warriors' more traditionnal/techno songs, the music really helps with the overall enjoyment of the game. Although there aren't new songs often, that has never bothered me since the songs have always been good. it also adds to the mood of the battle, whether it's escaping from your enemy(Retreat Battle for SW, Run Run Run for DW) or putting you in a feeling of dominance(Pursuit for SW, and I haven't heard the song for that in SW since I haven't played the original DW5), the music always adds more depth and enjoyment to each battle

Characters
Despite the fact that historical characters were never so "colorful," KOEI characters are. They are always so refreshing to watch, play as and to just talk about. KOEI does a great job of giving each and every character a unique personality in my mind. From their elaborate armor to their occasional humor, the characters are something to behold.

Music
The music is amazing. The game goes hand in hand with the music is a perfect mix. It gives you that little vibe you want when carrying out missions or when you just wanna listen to some cool tracks. The music, especially in DW5 and SW2, are some of my favorites of all. On early stages, the music is refreshing. On later stages, the music gives you that suspending feeling of both rush and fear. Without it, the games would be a lot more boring. Go music!

Characters: I like the way that Koei games have enough characters. With these much characters, you will not be bored using the characters easily. Each character also have their unique moves which makes each character different from each other, thus, making the game more interesting and better to play. Also gamers can learn about the history since the games takes place in the past. They can learn about the historic and heroic events that took place long ago...

Gameplay: The gameplay of Koei Games are fun. It's very easy to master. Gamers can have fun trying out the moves of every character. The gameplay is very good, I must say. It's interesting and fun. The Renbu system is an intriguing feature. After all, it lets gamers attack non-stop. I like the way that the gameplay is very unique compared to other games. It truly is one of the things I love about Koei games. This gameplay is one of the best thing in gaming universe...

Music - Just love the mix of modern style and oriental. Choosing the right music is important to me in the games because I need one that motivates meand KOEI music happened to be the one.

Event Cutscenes - Like to see how the characters interact, especially the part where Liu Bei gave Zhao Yun a meatbun.

Right if i had to pick it would be

Event Cutscenes and Music

Event Cutscenes because it adds another dimension to the games, it lets you see in clear color whats going on instear of just reading text, you always wont to see more and there for gives u another objective to unlock and its just great to see the characters around you interacting with each other.

Music because so far in most of the koei games the music has been great to amazing, they really get you in the mood to play the game and they really do creates the atmosphere for the game, and on top of that the style of the music is beautiful oriental mixed with modern (rock).

Characters : When you get interested in the storyline , characters will get catchy too . When you get amazed by this or that storyline , you will be choosing which character to use and how can you relate with it . Sometimes you even mimic the character and love its personality . Voice Acting
Because I just think their voices are really suit their personality like Xu Huang has a rough voice and has a rough personality.

Music
I think the music is really catchy and suits the weather etc in the battle, e.g. there is heavier music when it is raining or when you are losing, lighter and more relaxing music when you are winning.

Storyline
Storyline is something very important and you can notice that KOEI puts a lot of effort into that aspect. I really love the fact, that most of their games are based on a historical time. That really attracts most of the people and awakes their interest for that time or history in general. But they even get more into details and improve the storyline with every new game of one series. Unfortunatley, KOEI sometimes puts too much effort into the storyline, that it actually can become quite confusing for people who are new to the series. I really like that in one big Storyline of a game (DW - Unification of China or SW - Unification of Japan) KOEI puts with the characters many more Storylines, which makes everything more complex, but it is more interesting. Some kind of puzzle: Every of the little storyline is an important piece for the whole big Storyline (Sima Yi's idea of ruling Wei, Akechi Mitsuhide's revenge on Nobunaga etc.). I like that. !_!

Characters
There is a little thing I do not really like and that is that KOEI also uses some old cliches for some characters. For example the typical, good-looking, handsome "hero" (Zhao Yun), who appears in every Opening => Boring. Or that a fat guy always has to be silly (Xu Zhu, Meng Huo). Not everyone has something against it, but I really find it a little bit boring and disturbing. Nervertheless, their are a lot of other different characters available. So because of that, everyone finds his or her favorite character. KOEI manages to give every character an own unique personality and manages that every character has his own moveset. It's interesting how some characters develop from time to time and how they interact with other characters (even though some characters probably never met each other in the past (for example in Warriors Orochi)) KOEI really has a lot of ideas and uses interesting and also really funny cenverstations (Meng Huo, Okuni, Kunoichi, Nene, Takeda Shingen). Best way to symphathize with the characters and that also doesn't make them too stereotypical and too serious (Lu Bu, Ma Chao, Naoe Kanetsugu, Tachibana Ginchiyo -> but these are important, too ^.-)). What I really like about the Characters is, that KOEI also uses female Characters even though they never could fight or weren't that important in the past. Especially those female characters are very unique and very fun to play with. Their appearance is magnificient and some really do have an awesome Storyline (Oichi, No, Diao Chan).

Characters: Because I like the variety of them, I enjoy how KOEI has lots of pretty girls and pretty boys with excellent personalities and histories that allow me to befriend, hate or love or even agree with who they are.

Cutscenes: They allow me to visual what is happening, see the emotions and the true format of the scene.

Storyline: I've probably learned more from these video games and the interest they spark in me than any history class. The stories get so dramatic, exciting, and nearly memorizing. And then you almost have to go out and pick up a book or look up some history online. Afterwards, you find out reasons on why a character did a certain thing or has a certain weapon, etc because of the actual history behind the game. The stories are truly amazing and something worth falling in love with.

Characters: I must say, characters are something that generally grow on me or I feel attached to right away. The way a particular character acts, looks, or talks generally really pulls me in. If I end up liking 50 million characters (like in DW), then I have so much incentive to really hit some books or well, haha, keep playing! Although, I honestly suppose that my choice for characters is nearly tied with the Gameplay.

Since I REALLY want that metal plate thing, I felt like doing this.

For me, it's gotta be gameplay and characters.

Gameplay:

The gameplay of the series, indeed, has been relatively repeatitive as far as the warrior series goes. But the idea of how addicting it can be is awesome. I've play them for hours on end to days that had me playing them from the morning to the nighttime. It's because the quantity is so high and deep, that they keep me intriuged and keep me playing.

The situations, too, is what's great about the gameplay. I really like the feeling of being some awesome warrior with a sweet novelty weapon on their hands and wiping out a onslaught of enemies. Seriously, what a great break from reality for you to feel with all these superhuman abilities to just crush about 70 guys all at once like it's nothing. No one in reality could do that. Well, besides Chuck Norris that is. Sun Ce's fighting was cool too, it had a lot of energy to it and all those kung foo like moves he does are fricking awesome.

Another thing I like about the gameplay are the attacks. I really liked playing as Ginchiyo in WO, just the feeling of using her R1 attack in the middle of a crowd just felt awesome. Then comes Nobunaga with his C3 attack, just driving through all those soliders is always satisfying.

Though let's kind of take ourselves away from the warriors series now. Let me go on about ROTTK. When playing ROTTK, I really like how they don't focus on war like other strategy games but also on economy and domestic policies. It's a really long game to play, and it's not one of those games you go in and just beat the crap out of the enemy. You always have to think on how to handle each situation, if you go into battle without much of a plan it's likely you'll get destroyed by the enemy.

It's also important to look at who you're using. Because not all characters are suited for battles. As in, you wouldn't send Guo Tu to battle over Deng Ai in battle as their talents are very different. I like how they didn't have it so that there's the over powered characters in every aspect but rather over powered characters in one aspect. For instance, Lu Bu is totally awesome at war but he lacks in comparison to Lu Su when it comes to intelligence.

I also like the idea about these games that they have some timed events. Like for instance, you play as the Wu army and eventually SSX becomes available for play when she becomes available. It's also cool how they have characters start to lose their talents with age. Which adds a bit of realism to it, as many officers in history had become weaker due to age.

The amount of characters they have is amazing. They have just about every general, strategist, lord, minister, and even brides from the era in this game. Each one has a biography, too, which makes it much more enjoyable as you won't be with the feeling that you don't know what's the history behind the officer you're using. Although for many cases the larger historical figures of the era don't have a very large profile, it's still cool because the people who don't know much about history can be inspired more to study it.

What can I say? I really like Koei games. They like, fulfill me. With the release of DW6 coming, I can't wait to get my dude like claws on it. Even my non-Koei warrior fan friends said that DW6 looks awesome.

Characters:

The characters were diverse throughout the series. I honestly didn't find the DW warrior to be all that impressive, but the SW characters had came up to be rather impressive. In fact, one character, Ishida Mitsunari, has been the basis of comparison by many of my friends. They keep saying that I'm very smart like he is but is also an ass like him too. They kind of gave me this nickname as to address me when I'm being a smartass. I've come to like the name, as I adore Mitsunari a lot.

The characters are quite diverse. I like the sense that we get a diverse line-up of characters with personalities. Although the characters in DW are all relatively similar in the sense of their ambitions and what not. the characters of SW are all quite diverse and unique in their own way.

The characters have been quite enjoyable, even though there are some rather cliche characters it's hard not to find a character that you don't enjoy. Many people may like Nene for her cute ninja like power. Many people may like Kanetsugu for his belief of honor and virtue. Many people may like Ginchiyo for her toughness and strength and pretty well breaking the female stereotype. The list goes on. Though the cast of SW warriors was very colorful, it's hard not to like it.

That's not to say that they're not any characters in DW. DW has a cool set of character, no doubt, but not quite as diverse as the roster of characters in SW despite being more diverse.

My fave characters are as follows:

5. Ling Tong: I adore Ling Tong. His character is just so likeable, I just love his relation with Gan Ning and how the two become friends after Ning saves Tong's life. I really like his carefree and honest character, he's always witty and is very great friend when it comes to things in the end. His moveset is just awesome, it's one of the most abusable in the series and I really like how unique a nunchuk moveset can be from typical movesets that swords and spears and what not.

4. Miyamoto Musashi: I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MUSASHI. I just adore those characters that are out there to prove they're the best and to prove their swordmanship against others. I just adore him historically as well, which is probably why I like him here. His moveset is awesome, he's so quick and his attacks deal out a lot of damage. He's a lot better then Tadakatsu imo.

3. Sun Ce: My favorite of the DW series. I always like the carefree characters and the ones that aren't too incrediably serious. Sun Ce is unique from the other lords as he's more focused on the battles and actually doing stuff on it rather then going on about ruling the land like Cao Cao or Liu Bei. His character has a lot of energy, and he's always there to help his friends and family when they need him. His moveset is rather energetic, which is reminisent of his character. He fights pretty quickly and I really enjoy how good of a juggler he can be.

2. Ginchiyo Tachibana: I really liked Ginchiyo because she isn't like the other female characters in some slave like essence. She's a pretty independant character who is very thorough on her beliefs and doens't mind telling her enemies what she thinks straight to their face. I really like this line here in WO:

Zhange He: You are a women, where's your grace?

Ginchiyo: You are a warrior, where's your masculinity?

Which was one of my fave lines in the game. I also liked her moveset, it was very suited for her character because showed off a lot of power and a lot of those skillful strikes. She's just so damn cool.... That's why I like her.

1. Oda Nobunaga: Nobunaga has always been my fave throughout the series. This my fave portration of him as it doesn't show as being "evil" or being protagionised to a bias degree like in Kessen. It showed as being a cold hearted, cruel person but not like the typically "evil" you see from typical villains. In fact, I wouldn't even call him the antagionist as the series doesn't direct it to that degree. To add to this, Nobunaga is actually shown with some emotion towards his comrads. I think that his ending with Mitsuhide was just.... Awesome. It showed that he wasn't really what would be called a villain and he even cried.... How many villains have you seen cry? very few I could imagine. I also love his lines. I actually adopted his "is that so" and "it's just that simple" line because those two of my faves. His moveset is pretty cool too. it actually shows off some devil powers mixed with some swordmanship. Those kind of movesets that seem to mix the two adequately isn't really too common.

I'm changing my answer from storyline and new characters to new characters and silly hats. :P

I already stated why I like Koei's characters, but I think my description for why I like the storylines is bad. So let me describe something else I like about Koei games...

THE WEIRD HATS

They're amazing. In every Koei game you play, they have em. Kessen 1 was the best game for silly hats of course. Other games followed this trend though.

Posted Image

My hat kicks your hat's butt!

Posted Image

Oh yeah?! I can spear you to death with my hat. >:}

As you can see above, Koei's hats make the game a lot more interesting. Besides being aesthetically cool-looking, they also add to the historical feel of the games. I'm not sure why they do this, since not all samurai helmets looked this strange, but they just somehow make the game seem more authentic. Some hats are totally authentic though, or at least have a historical counterpart.

Posted Image

A typical eboshi worn by Katakura Kojuuro in Nobunaga's Ambition Tenkasousei.

Posted Image

Otani Yoshitsugu in NA Tenkasousei.

Posted Image

Will the real Otani please stand up? Well, sitting down is fine if you're a leper, I guess...

Posted Image

A historical replica of the helmet Ishida Mitsunari supposedly wore at Sekigahara. Looks familiar?

Posted Image

It sure does!

Posted Image

My onion hat will bring you to tears!

Posted Image

Que? No hablo ingles!

Other Koei game hats don't make the game look more authentic at all. But they do turn the game into something memorable. Ask any Koei fan about Pang Tong's sombero or Xu Huang's turban and they'll laugh. The hats, helmets, head pieces, and so on and so forth are almost always the first thing you look at when you see a character (unless you're looking at a female character with big blests. >_>).

Posted Image

Hallo, can I interest you in some curry chicken?

Posted Image

Y tu mama tambien Pang Tong!

...and then there are hats that don't make sense at all. Deng Ai and Zhou Cang (fictional character) have been looking like migrant Mexican grape harvesters in ROTK games since as long as I can remember. But come on! How can you not laugh at that! It's funny! It would be boring if Koei went strictly by the books and made the portraits of all their strategy game characters into something generic. They could easily go by history and give everybody similar helmets, costumes, etc. But Koei's artists have shown themselves to be innovative and brilliant. ROTK games don't have top-notch graphics...except in the portraits department. So many characters have interesting looking robes, hats and armour that almost each and every portrait captivates your attention.

Posted Image

Even cruddy characters like the historically decent, but relatively unheard of, Gao Xiang, have neat looking hats!

Overall, Koei has the best mad hatters working in their company. Their games always provide you with some interesting thing to look at, and the most interesting thing to look at in their games is almost consistenly their character's hats. Combine these cool-looking hats with character development and you have characters that are easy to fall in love with. This is my final answer. :P

First, I picked characters.
I've been a videogame player for over 25 years, so I've seen and played a great many videogame characters up to now. We all know that videogame characters are usually quite stereotyped (however I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing, it can help us to get familiar with the characters), and KOEI uses some standard ones too: the strong "giant", the pretty tomboy, the typical hero, the fat guy, the funny one, the lovely girl, etc.. But KOEI has always known how to go beyond stereotypes, and made their characters unique nevertheless.
They even brought new life to historical figures from Sangoku era, Sengoku period and the Hundred Years' War, creating refreshing characters with great personalities.
Personally I like all of them, actually It's not by chance that each of them has their own fans.
Another really important thing for me about KOEI characters is their refined aesthetics, I can say that all of them are "sexy" in their own way. I'm not saying that all of them are beautiful, but that their wonderful aesthetics makes even old men or not-objectively-handsome guys cool and "sexy".
Yes, KOEI combines great personalities with wonderful looks: unique face features, nice hairstyles, original and splendidly decorated clothes... And that great aesthetics is supported by the amazing graphics, but that's another point I didn't vote for, even though KOEI games have always had good graphics indeed.

Instead, I picked gameplay.
Even if I'm an intelligent player, I'm quite an impatient one, and I find "slow" games quite boring. That's why my favourite videogame genres have always been fighting and action.
I think the first KOEI game I played was Destrega. Maybe someone didn't even play it, but I remember it as an original fighting game with a comparatively polished and clean graphics (it's here that I started to love KOEI graphics) and, above all, an innovative and unique gameplay. By the way, that was the first time I "met" Dynasty Warriors characters XD (the people who played it know what I'm talking about ^_~).
But I was saying that I find "slow" games quite boring, like strategy games... yet the second KOEI game I remember to have played is Kessen II. In part, it's because it's Three Kingdoms-related (I'm fond of the novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms") and I liked the good and funny characters, however I unexpectedly loved it and didn't find it boring at all, even though it's a strategy game. That means that KOEI games' gameplay goes beyond stereotypes, exactly like with the characters, and is enjoyable independently of the genre.
Then I knew Dynasty Warriors series, and yeah, when hack and slash games are good, I like them very much hands down. KOEI characters have good and fun movesets (fun to play and to see, I mean), and many nice features give the games longevity.

*Sorry for my English, I hope my "declaration of love" to KOEI wasn't too hard to read*

Characters: The characters have such variety in how they look. Everyone is so unique, whether it is their personality or look, that allows you to be able to distinguish between characters easily. I won't say anything about their movesets being unique, but the apparel of the characters are very stylish and astonishing(in a good way). The large variety of weapons from both series is very unique to most of the characters also. It would take me all day to say all the different weapons that are in both series combined. The weapons are astounding from magic bracelets, to extremely large chained spiked-balls which in the real world, would be far above our physical lifting capacity. And not many homicides are done with feather fans, or Kendamas. The characters usually have their own unique story which is good and their very own unique personalities. What makes it even better is the most of the characters are real. BTW the floating orbs were my idea!! :D

1. Characters
Koei is definitely unique with their chracters. Looking in any video game store and just looking at the all the games, Koei definitely is the most unique. Koei has Chinese, Japanese, and now even European warriors, each with distinct characteristics, weapons, costumes, etc. My all time favorite character is Hattori Hanzo. Through these awesome characters, I get to do so many different missions and each time, in a different way according to the character. And there is such a wide variety from Koei. When DW6 comes out for the PS3, it will probably be one of the firsts games where you can choose 20+ different characters for the PS3. Koei definitely rules with their characters.

2. Gameplay
It is undeniable that Koei has a extremely different gameplay. Running across the battlefield slicing and dicing and sometimes just sitting on your horse slicing and dicing, Koei is definitely different due to its war/battlefield basis. The gameplay is awesome!!! I love Koei games because you could be a warrior in the past and go to war and see how certain outcomes could affect history.

Storyline: I love the way officers can interact with each other and have certain quotes with each other; such as Musou orochi where they get unique quotes and funny ones, this gives the characters some life.
Event Cutscene: Videos! videos! videos! just look at Chin's video on youtube! so much event cutscenes! people love the dw6 cutscenes! They can make music video out of them and see real interaction off the battlefield and how one character interacts with another while looking at their face or "Express their might through the battlefield" with cut scenes.

I vote storyline and characters ^_^

I like how they have created very unique and interesting storylines for all the characters. By unique i mean that they haven't given out the same type of storyline to another character of the same game. They have given the Qiao sisters the same type of storyline but the creators have made it a bit more individual personalities. I love the political marriage between Liu Bei and Sun Shang Xiang because it actually became about love which remained strong even through rough times. But the storyline that i got pulled into the most was the journey of Nagamasa and Oichi because it just pulled me into the game, like it was real. In the end, when he died i cried for the first time while playing a game, it actually gave me ideas to write a movie revolving around their relationship. Maybe a bit too much =P

The characters are just brilliant, how they have designed them in a way that it really becomes obvious what kind of character they are. Example; the Qiao Sisters, they were really girly clothes and use fans, it distinguishes that they are not really the fighting type. From what I've seen in KOEI games, many characters have the same type of character as from another, like you can't say that Cao Cao and Nobunaga Oda aren't same at least the tiniest bit. It just great how they present characters in their own individual ways.

Thanks =]

I chose: Storyline and Characters

Storyline: Yeah, KOEI made this one very clear. The storyline were almost same as in the real history; I said 'almost' because some of them were wrong. But, this is what we need in playing game. We'll enjoy the game if the storyline is good and easy to understand. KOEI also always put the story before the battle like Narration in SW series. KOEI also give great movie or cut scene that tell us (the story) more.

Characters: The characters KOEI made has different personality. The weapons they were brought and the clothes they were wore also fit for them. About face, some of them looked alike or very looked alike the real one in history (also some their weapon were real), like Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, Lu Bu, Dong Zhuo, Nobunaga, Shingen, Kenshin, and Yoshimoto (SW1). Some of character's weapon were fictional, but I can say those were not too fictional. This is what I like, KOEI designed the characters and weapons very unique but still stay in 'Traditional' predicate. Battle areas, characters design, and weapons were not modern in the time we live but modern in that war period.

Well it's difficult to pick only 2... ... But I picked :

o Characters : Without doubt, it's the first thing I picked. Their graphics are awesome, even before to play, they're interesting, they're various, and they're numerous. After playing, they've their own moveset, own style (even if some are similar sometimes), own story (in add they meet each others), well to resume, they're unique and charismatic. We can't forget them and their story easily. In add, we have a large choice of characters, there're one for every players' taste (plus, in some games with the edition of characters, we can create our own) ^^

o Gameplay : More difficult to pick because of the lot of good things... ... Finally I picked Gameplay because it's how we play the game and how we learn to love the game even if there're music, storyline, characters, ... ...etc too. We can play in 2 Players it's very great, few good games can be played in 2 Players. And of course, the system of battle is geant, a mission for one battle, in the mission there're often a little story, it guide our fight on the battle and boost the game. A/two player against an army enemy, with powerfull moveset, attack and special, can re-write the story of the world. In add, the gameplay make players to continue the game to seach 4th / 5th weapons or special items. Koei stategy games are famous too.
It's an original gameplay compared to others games. But, now so often repeated, hope originality'll come back like in Badestorm and show how impressionnant and strong are Koei games ^^

Without reading any members's posts in here, i vote for:
Characters: Koei made various unique characters (both personallity and outlook).. I relly like it
And the characters that they made are more rational than other similar game made by Capcom (I dont want to say the title).. In that "X" game, the outfit is too wierd.. I mean it's impossible the warriors using that kind of outfit in that era lol^^

Gameplay: Mass killing action.. I really like it
I enjoy it and having fun with it.. That's the reasons i'm playing a game
Do i need more reason why i vote for gameplay ^^
