I recently got into 7 about two months ago. As soon as I started it was good so far, I played as Zhou Yu as his earliest year possible joined with Cao Cao. I thought it was ok, nothing special... But then as soon as I found out about the duel tournaments ... (Yes I love the duels! There is nothing better than two generals proving their might to each other!) I went crazy in love with this game! I had a lot of fun, I eventually lost on what I participated. Soon enough I was invited into a poetry contest, (Yes this is one of the best Rotk games I've ever experienced.) - I haven't done much at the moment, but I regret not playing it earlier. Quite similar to 8 in a way. I also just noticed Cao Cao's WAR. That is very high, he is stronger than Guan Yu and Zhang Fei! Koei really lowered it over time.

What do you guys think of Rotk 7?

Great game with good music and portraites .It also has some options that never showed again in the later ROTK games ..
1- Poetry
2-Duel Champ
3-Playing as a mystic Zuo Zi ,Sima Hui and many others .

I liked many skills in this game such as DASH .

But on the other hand I hate tha game stats .Cao Cao with a higher war stats than Zhang Fei thats really stupid .

Still a great game from a great series .

Yes, it is indeed a great game. I really like playing it because it has features other games do not. (For the Rotk series.) I'll miss those three for sure, unless it gets back added on. It didn't bother me much about Cao Cao's high WAR, but it is a bit ridiculous.

7 has always been one of my fav versions
and collecting the beasts is awesome too...fighting like 25 tigers in order to collect all...

kirin is my fav beast, you can use some fella with high war value and use 20000 army to invade a city...and trash enemy's army, then when you are almost done, use the dragon beast (hope the thunder strikes the opponent...lol) then when your army reaches to 2000, use the kirin and make your full army recovery!

May I ask how this compares with ROTK 8?

8 was always my favorite, but from what I reading here, I may have to look into getting 7.

I never tried 8 so I can't answer you for sure, VII is game where you can play as anyone with any status or ranks (Ruler, Strategist, Officer and Ronin) and it has turns.

As a Ronin the game is very limited as you receive very little money ( Can't remember if you do, even). And you don't have much commands to issue. As an officer you get your salary so you can do more things, you can do one command that improves your city/army once, that command is either issued to you by your ruler or you can advise your ruler to do it, and he may not like it always. But it's always one button you have to press, and after that you can't do anything really affective (Just visiting people, giving gifts, training and patrolling the city to earn fame).

For strategist and ruler rank you can do all kinds commands, but as a Strategists you have AP (Adviser Points) and they go down with every suggestion you make, and since your ruler will always approve it, it's more like a straight command actually. Ruler doesn't have AP so you can do whatever you want, but you can always defect if you screw up as a strategist, and if you have good INT you'd easily become a strategist at your new force so that makes the game a little too easy.

Anyways, it was a great game overall. Funny thing I don't really remember Cao Cao having that high WAR at all.. Zhang Fei's was really high, Cao Cao was high I thought, nearly 80 but I can't remember it being higher than Zhang Fei really :-\
I only disliked playing as an officer, I mean, you only have to press one button and your turn is pretty much over, save for boring other stuff. But yeah, I really loved the duel system, the beats fighting was awesome and the battles were really great, Yan Liang owned with his skill and cavalry charges IIRC. Also the hidden characters were really random (Abraham Lincoln? Mother Tressa? Ghandi? Genghis Khan? Dynasty Warrior? lols)

7 was the best mixture i have palyed of the "Liege" aspect and the "Officer" aspect. If i recall... 9 was probably the best "Officer" aspect, and 11 ia debatably the best "Leader" aspect. I want a new version of 7... where one perso ncan be the lord, and the other can play as his right hand or...be a wanderer or what ever. I personally don't like being a leader of an entire empire.

loved the game , even though I have already played 8,9 and 10 before I got it .

Well , I loved the music in the main theme of it .It was 10x better than the one used in 8 ,9 and 11 . Portraits were cool with some of them being the best in all the series .The gameplay was good , but was too slow (still faster than 8 ) .

The game main two and biggest flaws was the stats and being a free officer .First of all , KOEI dropped the LED section from the game .(It was in all ROTK games except 7and 8 ).The second part of the flaw is that the stats are not balanced .NOT AT ALL . Cao Cao having more WAR points than Sun Jian , Xiahou Dun , Yuan and the others .The skills were also not balanced among the officers ( I remeber seeing weak officers with more skills than the strong officers ) .The second flaw is being a free officer .There aren't enough points to do many thing .You will spend many years trying to get a small thing done .This flaw gets smaller when you join an army , yet you will have to be a prefect to enjoy your life in the game .

The music and soundtracks are just awesome .You will love listening to them .Also , This game had the biggest change in the series history .It marked the beginning of the new ROTK games .

I still love to play the game once in a while .I always work hard and study hard to get everything done so that I get free time to play ROTK games .And it even feels better than before .
