Well for one, what Huang Gai wears doesn't looks all that Chinese. Pretty much all games were he makes his appearance in. (Playable of course.)

Zhou Tai, I really don't see it. It's not that accurate if you are comparing what he wears to a normal Chinese outfit.

Gan Ning, well no.

Wei Yan, I don't think so.

Xu Zhu, not that I would think so. His outfit just doesn't cut it.

Note: As stated above I meant on their clothes/what they wear.

What do you guys think?

The only character that really looks chinese to me at all is Zhang Liao. Though his new outfit downplays it a little to me.

They all look white.

Or at least part white.

Um, except Huang Gai obviously lol XD

Xiahou Dun and Zhang Liao could be half Chinese but other than that... maybe Cao Cao has Chinese grandparents :\ Zhugers is quite Chinese looking.

Then if we're only talking about clothes... nobody looks Chinese. Xiahou Dun & Cao Pi might have the most Chinese outfit, with their "turtle shell" armour (can't remember what it's actually called XD)

I'm glad the characters are designed like the way they are. No stereotypes.

I wonder if Pang Tong would qualify. He looks like a gigantic moth, I'm guessing that it's time to break out the bug spray. And Wei Yan just looks weirdly Native American, y'know with the head-dress. I think that some guy on the KOEI Creative Team was having one damn good LSD trip when he designed Pang Tong.

I don't know, I always saw Wei Yan as an Abarijane (spelling). As for who actually looks Chinese, I think Zhang Fei and Guan Yu do a bit. As well as some of the afore mentioned people. Also Dian Wei, looks like a cross between chinese and hispanic to me.

I think Zhang He is just the resident girly man. Koei seems to like to stick in a character that is male but has a lot of feminine qualities. XD Take Ranmaru in SW.

Zhou Tai seems like...Japanese. He's designed very ninja-esque.

But really I don't think a lot of character designs born from Japanese companies look Japanese. Take anime. Does Sailor Moon look Japanese? She has blond hair and blue eyes.

I think the only series that really looks like the characters are from the country they are supposed to be is Kessen. That's pretty accurate I think.

Of course...I adore the character designs the way they are, so don't confuse this for complaining. I love them~

I know this is the section for Dw6, but the only person I can think of that doesn't look Chinese or Japenese is Gracia. She looks more european.

Hm.. are we looking at the same characters? They look Chinese to me with the clear anime influence.

As for clothes and armor, all of them are hybrid between Chinese and European and Japanese armor mixed in except for Wei Yan and Pang Tong who come straight out of some fantasy books.

Zhang He and Ranmaru are both complete (stupid) stereotypes, which is what I was answering to.

As for anime not looking Japanese... most anime isn't based even remotely in reality, is it? What with their huge googly eyes and purple hair and all <_<

Maybe it's just me, but I haven't seen any Chinese people in my family who look as white and Western as the DW cast -_- Xiahou Dun, Cao Cao, Zhang Liao, Zhen Ji, could all pass as having close Chinese relatives but um the rest... no. Maybe I've forgotten a couple but those are the few that spring to mind immediately. Pang Tong might be very Chinese under that moth outfit o_O

The clothes are a rather random mix of fantasy, and East & West armour/clothes but as for physical appearances... eh. Not that I particularly care or think about their ethnicity much of the time XD

They all just happen to be animenized (lol is that a word?). Bushy eyebrows that's very sharp, perfectly symmetrical face, ideal athletic build, little to no fat showing on their face (for skinny characters), no skin blemishes, and stuff like this which make them, not just hard to find among Chinese, but also among real human being as a whole.

Hahahah, this is very true.

This is something that I have noticed about anime and games from Japan as a whole. The characters never look Asian.

I would say Zhuge Liang looks the most Chinese, even though his clothing is a bit fantastical. His face is rather wide, eyes slanted, and he has the "stereotypical" facial hair of a Chinese mystic.

And then on the other hand, Yue Ying looks the least Chinese... obviously. Although I'd say all the females look the LEAST Asian... especially Zhu Rong and Xiao Qiao.

A friend of mine who's into anime once told me that the Japanese tend to idolize American culture, so that is why the characters in anime and games tend to look "Westernized."

I agree that Yue Ying doesn't look chinese now, but she was ugly before, she looks 10 times better now, if that takes her "not looking chinese" then so be it.
