Well, people can commit suicide and not be emo, or not listen to emo music. You could overdose on pills by accident and be found dead a day to a week later. Emo = suicide a lot of the time, but suicide existed before emos used suicide as an attention-whoring technique.

ok.i have to say this:
MOST OF YOU GUYS ARE WRONG ABOUT EMOS!!!!!!

NOT ALL emos cut themselves
NOT ALL emos wear tight jeans, dye their hair blck, get piercing etc.
NOT ALL emos keep everything bottled up.I am one of a gang of emos and not one of us keeps things secret. We tell all problems and all things that happen to us.
NOT ALL emos whine all day about having a BAD LIFE!some emos have great lives but are emo anyway.
NOT ALL emoget help or need support or help.
NOT ALL emos listen to "emo music". some people who arent even emo listen to "emo music"
NOT ALL emos are cowards.
NOT ALL emos think about suicide all day and dream about killing themselves!

NOT ALL SUICIDAL PEOPLE ARE EMO!!!!!!

im emo and i dont cut(anymore),i dont have black hair, any piercings you would see with my shirt on,i dont wear tight jeans at all,i dont whine all day(i dont whine at all),i dont have a bad life but i dont have a good life either,im NOT a coward, amd i dont need help or support!

but the things i do on that list are:
i used to cut myself(im trying not to anymore)
i do think about suicide(but im suicidal)
and i listen to "emo music"(i dont see a difference from that to regular up-beat little kid music except the mood)

AND I AM EMO!!!!!!
and i would like some of the people here to actually stop and think and stop stereotyping emos!its hurtful becuz when someone says emo people automatically think of cutting, crying, death, black, and suicide.

How is stereotyping emos hurtful? I don't why emos get all sensitive about everything ilovelingtong said when nearly all emo artists*especially Gerard GAY* whine, cut, wear suits, lippy*lipstick*, eye-make-up and cry in practically every song they make. If emos don't want to be stereotyped stop worshipping the bands who inspired those stereotypes.

Um no.... Emo are people who are overly emotional, which by many peoples view is fairly dorogotory.

Emo isn't an emtion, it's more of a trend. A trend that may die in a few decades time.

emos as a trend may die out, but the personality type characterizes emos wont, Ling Tong's point.

You know, here is the thing I wonder, before emos were around, where do kids currently identified as EMOs would fit?

Lets look at the classical big ones
Bullies: definitely no
Nerds: hardly
Goth: i dont know, maybe someone can enlighten me.
Punks: no

My best guess is these teens really dont belong to any of them, instead, they wander the school halls, get picked on and largely being invisible.

If that is the case, then EMOs is a good thing, even a monkey would tell you (if it could) that belonging to somewhere is better than to be alone.

"Belonging" is more then likely the power source of this trend. People seem to like it, others don't, and these trends get made fun of. These trends we know today, including this emo crap, will more then likely die in decades to come.

You talking about Drew's age? He's 17; I think. O_o

Anywayy~ yeah! It's not like I got anything against emoes but still... I THINK THEY SHOULD STOP BEING OVERLY EMOTIONAL ABOUT LIFE ALREADY! XDD It gets annoying sometimes. ._.

Oh, and is it me? Or is Starbucks an emo hangout? I dunno, I get that a lot here, and this emo girl in my class keeps telling the whole class on how she's going to go work there... ._.

I really think emos are ridiculus. They have no reason for acting like they are. They say their life is bad when they actually grew up in a house instead of some people overseas in middle-east countries. Then they say they arent being understood. WTF?!?!?!?!?! Their parents would probably try to talk to them, but would those emos let them? Noooooo...

I've got nothing against emos, i also think that the stereotype is slightly stupid in some cases. I have a friend who used to cut himself but hasnt dyed his hair black and maybe doesnt listen to that sort of music that stereotypes emos. he cut himself over personal reasons(not mentioning) but doesnt anymore. But for some reason, recently some of my other friends started to call him a 'blemo' because he tried to make himself sick. I said to them that that was a 'harsh' word to call him(didnt say it like that though -_-).

I'm just saying but i agree with both sides. people that do do these things are obviously doing things for a reason, but need to solve the problems another way. If people are thinking of suicide, then they should reconsider because life doesnt always suck as some of those people say. I'm not siding with anyone, but there are good and bad things about emos and being them, but im not saying either of the good and bad things outweigh the other.... <_<

That's just my thought on all of this -_-

Me be over 20? Nah I'm 15.

But to understand this group is to really know the aspects of how they act... Not necessacarily be a part of the group persay.

Here my thoughts and feelings fellas.

Emos, an emo can be any person with bad emotional problems or very strongly with emotions. But since we're talking about the emo culture and kids liek them.
My thoughts and views on this are:

Most emo kids (I met) are suburban kids who have very likely good lives. Granted that all teenagers aren't the same and family ties aren't always the greatest but! Most emo I do know actually do have good lives and do have good grades in school and they are kinda  wubby dubby type people. They easily get emotionaly distressed over stupid stuff or try to create emotional problems for themselves that they don't have. Like I knew this emo girl (she calmed down now) but she was talkn about her life how it was so bad that she cut herself and cry that her parents don't love her and a bunch of bs that ain't true, and she lives in the burbs and I know from my friend Houston that she has a pretty decent life. I was always on the poorer side (but very fortunate and grateful that I'm not in worser shoes) and she gotten mad at me for giving her a reality check and explained the stuff that has happened to me. I'm not trying to compete to having a worse life but I know that she has a good life and she needed to straighten up and be grateful. Most emo kids are kinda spoiled and ungrateful, and it pisses me off cus I know dudes who have to hustle and do dirty work to get by living and all sorts of stuff. I mean the culture is kinda weird and obscured (like that shitty music) but some of it is alright. I just sick of lil emo kids crying about their love life and how bad life is whn they live in a ice home and neighborhood with a caring famly and other bunch of bs when you got dudes out in the street doing stuff just to support their family and get by on bills living in a broken down house! Sorry for typing so long. But this is the way I funkin feel about emos.
and there is nothing wrong with emo fashion, I know people who do it as a fashion which is ight but when they start make belivin this false depression for attention. Then it gets me mad. And don't get me wrong, there are very EMO kids in society and sometiems you neva suspect, but got dayum some of the emo crap is gettin outta hand. PML!

i wont lie here...bt in the past and recent events have caused me to self harm...... and yes it is mostly emotions but what i found out was stress quite a lot etc. io dont want my parents to know ... cos if they did thn they would makeme go into therapy and i dont need that... ive just got problems that deal with by a knife and my body. my friends never noticed that i was depressed until i broke down .. i dont wantto put my problems on other people, the reason why my friends enever knew was because i acted like nothing was wrong....bottling up my emotons but when i did that i liken became this lifeless shell etc

@wu_tiger: Have you ever considered that you have a lot to be grateful for. Self-harming is no way to deal with your problems. Maybe therapy wouldn't be such a bad idea.

@red knight: Haha, when I did cut myself was months ago, I just getthe urge 2-3 times a month so I am getting better without a therapist.

At first I didn't like emos, but now I'm all for them. They do the world a favor by getting rid of human beings and thus maybe reducing overpopulation. Less people should exist and they are filling the role of making sure that happens.

I'm sure they're not committing suicide for that particular reason.

Suicide bombers also play a role in this.
