There is so much going on in the game I have a hard time remembering all the plots, so I cannot list them all. However, I will try to list as much as possible; based on what can, and should be done in each fame level before getting guns.

Knowing what proceeds the “Experiment” in Brittany is very important, as the game fights you the whole way there. If there is so-much-as one bit of gossip to throw in your way to trip you up, the game will use it.

I must assert that the following list of battles, conversations, cut-scenes, and gossip will not always unlock in this exact order. The triggers to unlocking battles start with Crecy and Poitiers. This guide is based on my decision to fight for the English at Odon, Crecy, and then Poitiers. I’m sure those who are somewhat familiar with the game have noticed the illusion of randomness that is present. This is due to hasty play through.

Legend:
g= guns
m= merc story
*= main story

1star Fame

Start paying your dues right from the beginning of the game, or cry about it later. Here is what I mean. 3 star guns are pain to get, but well worth it to me. Be prepared to suffer through each stage for a while and fight many battles, as it takes about 30 hours of play to get guns.

By the end of 1star fame you should have met all of the following:

Marc and Georges
Karen
Diane
Magnus
Branwyn
Yoshimasa
Naran
King of England, Prince Edward, John Chandos
Gentelman of Culture
Well Informed merc
Blacksmith

Now here are some of the basics, events unfold in patterns. You enter the bar after a fight and someone gossips about something. Example: Well Informed merc talks about Marc & Georges. You go fight again and nothing occurs. You fight again and upon your return Karen and Diane are babbling about Prince Edward’s flawless victory record; most notably after the fact I just shot his 17th lvl ass off his dumb little horse with my 3rd lvl shortbows…lol.

Anyway, there is a pattern here: event, nothing, event. This pattern holds for much, but not all of the game. The game gets testy when you try to force it to do something and may retaliate by offering fewer contracts. There will be more on that later…

! contracts, stories and areas unlocked: Normandy, Brittany(guns), Champagne(guns), Gascony(guns)

m! Incursion into Normandy/ Key to the heart/ Brothers story
m! Subjugation of Brittany/ Training the new guys/ friends
m! Incursion into Normandy/ a timely delivery/ Her reason
*g! Campaigne in Gascony/A noble hunt / The archer from the borders

Knowing the battles and locations isn’t enough. You need to know the stories intimately as well.

Brothers: after hearing about Marc & Georges you fight them in “Key to the Heart.” Following that Marc & Georges spilt up as a team. The break up usually does not occur until two star fame. However, this takes awhile and there are about 5 scenes in the bar involved in this story. That’s 5 scenes to block your path to guns! (thier breakup may occur later than 1 star, I'm still trying to sort out the trigger for it)If in second star, and they have not split yet, the game will most likely place the breakup behind the" Battle for the Supply Lines."

Her reason: Karen’s story is tied to Yoshimasa’s, and can affect getting guns later in the gun because of the area’s his story takes place in.

The Archer from the borders: takes place in Gascony, and you can’t advance main plot, or guns plot without it. 3 bar scenes.

Friends & Rivals: because Magus is a pain in the ass, he surfaces at the worst possible time, and his missions usually screw up a board right before you need it to favor the other force,or after you have taken it for them.

How do I know it is time to leave 1star fame? Two gossips usually occur. The first a novice merc speaks with the bartender about what he should do, the second is a forgetful merc will talk to you about your War diary. (the game will recycle the latter quickly in order to prompt you.)

Note: Did not list the main story battles here because you have to fight them and they are all English so it does not matter.

Note on the blacksmith: you can complete the Aegis shield in 1 star, but it unlikely that you will find all of the pieces. If you do find them wait for the shield to be completed before moving on; otherwise the game may bury the blacksmith for awhile.

Note buying pennons: looking for that extra “quick march”? Stop using whatever pennon you are looking for. If, it is unequipped the game doesn’t know you like it. Go fight 1 battle without it, and usually you can find what you want for sale. (this works best early in the game, or if your not stalling plots)

2Star Fame

At Crecy, as stated I fought for the English. Here you meet Phillip, Marie, and the King of France. Other people you should meet by the end of 2star are: Iamarl, Henry Percy, de Guesclin, and Jean. Areas unlocking are Flanders and Aquitaine.

*g! Battle of Ghent/ Pride of the Golden Lamb
*g! Battle of La Roche Derrin/ the Black Legend

These two battles surfaced first. I ignored La Roche Derrin, instead I focused on Ghent. Here is why:

The Battle of Ghent unlocks the following:

*! Incursion into Flanders/ (don’t remember name) you must protect the knight and meet Iamarl/ The Sheath and main story
*g! Incursion into Champagne/ protection of livelihood/ Pride of the Golden Lamb
m! Subjugation of Flanders / cart of gold/ Her reason, also early on Brothers.

Note: keep in mind that I had been fighting battles the whole time waiting for these events to take place and passing cut scenes in the bar.

Notable gossips: Diane & Karen discuss England’s tactics, Marc & Georges cursing the knights, the Mercenary General story surfaces, Gemstones.

I’m pretty sure the first two unlock “Battle for the Supply lines.”

*g! Battle for the Supply lines/ Champagne/ Pride of the Golden Lamb

After this one, “! Subjugation of Normandy” appeared. I do not know if the “Supply Lines” unlocks this, but I think it does (at least for the order I choose).

m! Subjugation of Normandy/ Brothers. This ends their drama and makes sure the game can’t block you with it later.

After clearing everything above, and fighting 2 or 3 more battles to make sure the program had nothing else to throw at me, I fought *! La Roche.

*! Battle of La Roche Derrin/ the Black Legend

Fighting here unlocked:

*!Battle of Harfleur / main story & the sheath

*g! Battle of Rennes/ a fellow with wings

I fought here. Then 3 extra battles; nothing else showed, so on to Harfleur.
Harfleur, unlocked “Battle of Troyes,” fought 1 battle, and the “Gentelman of Culture” made his second appearance. Fought 3 and nothing, so on to Troyes. Troyes unlocked Politiers… rinse, repeat, end 2 star fame.

3 Star Fame

I’d like to say were close now, but the BS is just starting.

Area’s unlocked: Auvergne ](guns) and ile-de-France

People to meet in 3 star: La hire, Joan of Arc, De Rais, Hal & Rich, Arthur de Richmond, Christine, Phillipa, William, Fastolf & Talbot.

Each stage usually starts with a barrage of gossip and this one has more than it’s fair share you need to get past.

Hal & Rich/ the Red Legend are introduced one of two ways. You are at a battle that they are (the side your on doesn’t matter), or the cut scene just triggers, 7 episodes I believe.

Diane & Karen start babbling about La Hire & de Rais/ the Cannon’s Roar (the name of this story should speak volumes of how it is tied to “a Scholar’s request.”) I think there are 3 bar scenes around this one.

After the third scene is past Christine should show up at the bar at some point.
Edit:(narrowed a few things here, third scene mentioned above is not always nessary & fame lvl as nothing to do with her appearance)

A love struck merc shows up and talks about Phillipa. Later on an Angry merc arrives and talks about the Duke of Bedford. This triggers the second part of you involvement with Phillipa.

The Entrepreneur surfaces, I believe there are 5 episodes around this one.

Magnus& Yoshimasa enjoy work.

William’s story is introduced/ the cowardly knight. This saga has 11 parts. Magnus, Marc and Well Informed merc discuss William’s situation during episode 5.

Magnus & Naran talk about Fastolf & Talbot

Marc & Magnus discuss the brutality of the fighting.

The legend of the “Battlefield Hunter” is told. I will list the best fights for this at the end.

Magnus tells you about Hawkwood.
Bartender tells you you’re on the correct path to become a merc general. Also, Well Informed talks about it.

There is more, but will I list it later, as needed, on to battles…

The first battle to appear was g*!Reonceveaux(or something like that) I ignored this and instead focused on making other fights appear.

m g! Upheaval in ile-de-France/ a sisters words/ Karen/ fought battle.

m g! Incursion into Normandy/ the art of fighting/ William/ fought battle.

m g! Upheaval in Brittany/ the art of fighting again/ William/ fought battle

The battle of Herrings appeared ignored it. I think this triggered due to my fame lvl and clearing pending issues.

g! Battle of Cherbourg/ the red legend/ Hal & Rich/ fought battle

g! Conflict in Aquitaine/ the truth of battle/ William/ fought battle

g! Subjugation of Auvergne/ Heirloom brooch/ the red legend/ brooch is located in village of Saint-Pierre/ fought battle.

Having completed all of this I went back and fought the battle of Reonceveaux.

g! Battle of Reonceveaux/ a fellow with wings/ Gascony/ unlocked *! Battle of the Pyrenees, g! Battle of Donremy, and the !battle of Calais.

I ignored the Pyrenees, Donremy and Calais. During this time de Guesclin’ s soldier comes to the bar looking for him and Jean comes to retrieve him unlocking the g! Battle of Pontvallain.

Now my battle list had 4 major story battles just sitting there. I covered the waiting for all this to happen with a small series of retreats(7 to10). Show up and leave…lol

*g! Battle of Pontvallain/ a fellow with wings/ Brittany/ end story.

next
*g! Battle of the Pyrenees/ the sheath / Gascony/ end story Iamarl & Henry. Unlocked g! Battle of Toulouse.

*g! Battle of Toulouse/ the archer from the borders/ end story Branwyn unlocked g!Battle of Orthez

g!Battle of Orthez/ warrior of the dawn/ Phillipa/ Gascony This triggered a bar scene with the former merc talking about the prince being ill.

*! The Battle of Calais/ Pride of the Golden Lamb/Phillip& Marie end story

g! Battle of Donremy/ a girl at war/ Joan of Arc/ Champagne

These two were fought back-to-back and *! Battle of Cochocrel surfaced. This battle was placed on my list and ignored. We’re close now.

Note: the battles of Herrings and Cochocrel have nothing to do with getting guns and should be left alone.

1 or 2 battles later …
G! Campaign in Gascony/ a scholar’s request/ just right wood/ location west of Les Angles.

Still a little more BS to pass though…another small series of retreats here

Gossip about Joan in Vaucouleurs
Retreat
Bar scene with Joan asking for your help.
Retreat
French soldiers show up looking for help for Vaucouleurs/ Champagne/ guns …this is very important and a prime example of how the game tries to drag out getting guns. I did not speak with them.
Instead, I skipped a battle.
The program then tried to block me with Naran and Georges babbling about something.
Retreat
The game tries to have the French speak with me again. I did not talk to them.
Retreat
The game tries to have the French speak with me again. I did not talk to them.
Retreat

Low and behold ! g! upheaval in champagne/ a scholar’s request/ just right iron/ north of Froides
You meet Arthur here.
Retreat
The French are back and I accept the request for Vaucouleurs adding it to my to-do-list
Retreat
Angry merc shows up talking about duke of Bedford.

Note: the only reason retreating is allowing me to advance the plots here is because I have cleared so many already.

G! Conflict in Auvergne/ a scholar’s request/ just right sulfur

recommendation: make sure the French control the north western and north central part of the before you fight this one. Otherwise, you’ll be fighting behind enemy lines and they will get a hideous level bonus. This means you will have to fight here before this battle and make sure the French have Limoges and everything north of it under their control. I also recommend using spears as your unit for escort duty, and the best defensive pennon you have.

Retreat
Gentlemen of culture shows up and gives me my rabbits foot.

!subjugation of Aquitaine/ warrior of the dawn/ Phillipa I did not do it
Retreat

Ta da! At long last the GGG! Battle of Vannes/ a scholar’s request/ end story… boom boom! 3star guns

Okay, I need to stress this again, Battles will unlock according to which side you fight for in major battles like Crecy and Poitiers, and then by the order you fight your way through the rest of the stories. You will find that if you side with the French in one, or both of these battles, stories I mentioned here unlocking in 2 star fame, but the basics of what needs to be done is here.

Battlefield Hunter, the easiest battles for this are:
Donremy 1 general
Cherbourg 3 generals
Reonceveaux 3 generals
Pyrenees 3 generals
Vaucouleurs 2 generals
Limoges 3 generals
There are a few others but I don’t recall them.

I don’t know if I can show how to do this anymore clearly then what I have, sorry for that. Hopefully, someone with far better writing skills then I can use this info to do better. Anyway, I hope it helps someone.

One final thing; as far as I can tell, at no point does the number of French contracts that you do become a factor in getting guns.

Edit:SP thanx to LDZ for editing suggestions

Update:The way around

Here is away to block William and Hal and Rich. This takes some planning, and awarness of the state(who controls what) of Normany.

After you clear all available stories in two star fame: that includes main stories and merc stories. Make sure that the French have control of Cherbourg before moving to 3 star fame.

Once you have reached 3 star do not fight in Normany unless you think the battle will be quick, and the English won't beable to retake it.

As long as the French control the city the computer should try to bring Hal and Rich into the game quickly as possible. When the battle at Cherbourg contract is offered pin it, and let it rot on your list until you get guns.

The program will still introduce William's story at some point, but will be unable to offer the battles as Normandy is locked out.

important note: Sometimes, you will fight to battle of Vannes, and not recieve your guns book right away. Do not worry, it just means the computer has locked your guns behind another battle. Usually this occures if the "Battle of Vannes" come up before the "Battle of Pontvallain."

Bad news: This rarely happens, however, sometimes the program does not introduce Christine no matter hard you attempt to force it to. My best guess is that there is some sort of bug in it.

That is awesome, I haven't played the game yet but this looks to be extremely useful!

I've moved this into a new Guides Sub-Forum, just like the Orochi, Dynasty & Samurai Warriors sections.

Ty :) I'm glad yun's like it.

I stumbled into getting guns in 3 star my second play through, and it bothered me until I figured out how to repeat it. Everywhere I looked no one seemed to know how,or the info didn't add up with what I was seeing; so I figured I should share. I will edit in new information as I come across it.

If anyone as new info to offer, please do. This game will most likely have my attention until next month. I simply have one request along with this; make sure the information you are providing is reproducible before hand.
