I also liked the XL expansion for this game, all the legend modes were really good! The only four i can remember right now are Jiang Wei's, SSX's and both Qiaos and i remember enjoying them all (well Xiao's not that much)... It was pretty cool with Jiang Wei how you had to stop Liu Chan from surrendering, i belive he was the only unique character in that stage, i liked it because it was different.. I liked SSX's because that was the first time we got a glimpse of her relationship with Liu Bei, i remember reading the encyclopedia entry on her in 4 and how she married Liu Bei and thought that it was a real shame that there wasn't any interaction between them in the original, thankfully the XL remedied that.. Xiao Qiao's one were she had to rescue her sister from Cao Cao was alright, nothing memorable though... Da Qiao's was really good, it was also quite sad with the whole scene of Sun Ce dying, it was a very good stage that really succeeded on the emotional front... |

Yeah, Jiang Wei was the only playable character on your side, but I remember Xu Zhu and Zhang He being with Wei. And it was cool being able to hit the gongs whilst moving back and forth, but it really wasn't that hard preventing him breaking-free, unless you were attempting his special weapon. Jiang Wei has always really had poor statistics. Da Qiao's one was quite emotional due to Sun Ce dying, I agree. Boulders are always fun to dodge and also fun to get hit by, especially when your at the top of a steep hill and fly backwards. |

Hee hee, yeah, I agree with you fully on that statement. It usually didn't matter where or who I was, I just loved getting in some one's way and showing them that I ''have the ability to talk back.'' In any case It was always a cool thing for me.
Of course, I believe there happens to be many that like this series, as me counting in myself, this is my top DW game of all time. In a way I felt the same for a bit, but you know it will just take a little discussion to see what people prefer. DW3 was the game that went out with a bang, since DW2 was amazing, DW3 became phenomenal. DW5 I could say it was just the same as the rest but with new features and you would be able to move diagonally while attacking this time. For me though, DW4 was the ultimate experience a Dynasty Warrior game can offer. |

@Spike - Well here is the way to unlock that battle: "Wu Tales 3: The Imperial Seal Requirement: In Chapter 2, choose Hu Lao Gate first." So just always play Si Shui Gate first and you'll be ok. And I'm glad this discussion has rekindled the DW4 fever within you. @Macv12 - I've said it before, but I like repeating myself. DW4 is also my favorite DW game in the franchise. 1 - I agree completely. This was a huge flaw that doesn't really ruin the game, but it can screw you over frequently. 2 - I also agree. If your character isn't leveled up, you can't guarantee anything higher than 150 KOs. @Astus - I agree, XL was really cool. Too bad it took me 4 years after buying DW4 to finally play it. @Kyon - I also agree, DW4 was the ultimate DW experience. Lol, I'm basically agreeing with everyone who's said anything in this thread so far. ------------------------- But now I'm gonna talk about DW4's expansions, Xtreme Legends & Empires. I had to trade in 6 of my GameCube games to GameStop just to have enough money to buy DW4E shortly after it came out. I was amazed that they took the amazing DW4 and presented it to you in such a different way. The gameplay was amazing, and it was so fun being able to unify the land under your character. I will say though, that DW5E was a much better game and there's really no reason to ever go back to this one. But it was amazing at it's time, and I don't regret buying it. Pros: + It was a completely new way to play DW. + It was addicting. + They gave you a desert battle! I love fighting on sand! Cons: - The only real negative is that comparing this with DW5E, this game could never compete. DW5E is the better game. - There really is no reason to buy it anymore. The only way I'd recommend this to someone is if they are a DW collector and they need this game to further their collection. If they're looking for fun, I'd say go for DW5E or SW2E. DW4XL's Legend Mode was a really fun mode. It had unique battles for every character, most of which were really pretty good. I can't remember most of them, but I remember liking a good portion of them. Did anybody realize how hard it was to get an "A" ranking? Out of the 42 different character battles, I only got an A on maybe 5. It's crazy. Xtreme Mode wasn't very fun for me, since like I said earlier in my post, I didn't buy this game until just recently. I'd already played DW5XL's amazing Xtreme Mode and this game's doesn't match up. So yeah, my ratings of the games would be: DW4 - 10/10 DW4E - 7/10 DW4XL - 8/10 |

Nice to see people still playing older games. My brother plays DW1 and I'm playing Soul Edge. Good ol' PS1.. Anyway DW4 was my 1st KOEI game, and probably the best DW game. Best outfits(Yue Ying) and VA's, oh and the taunts! Lu Bu was a beast...but I agree with what you said about DW4E. Best endings though! DW4. Simply. D. Best

Oh, I see...I always thought that the bonus stages were unlocked by requirements always made in the final stage per Chapter. Besides, I really liked Hu Lao Gate and I liked getting to it as quickly as possible, which is probably why I usually skipped Si Shui Gate. Anyway, I went out to look for DW4 on Sunday (and hoped to find XL too) but neither were there. I did find Empires though, so I thought for about £10 it wasn't a bad deal...and I'm finding it pretty fun so far. I've finished the Sun family's 'storyline', and now I'm trying out Fictional Mode using Lu Bu. Because the officers are random, I've ended up with 2 forces other than myself fighting each other for control of the bottom 2/3 of the map (I'm currently based up north)...and they're Da Qiao's and Xiao Qiao's forces! I hope I can find DW4 and XL sometime though, I still want them if possible. |

Zhao Yun's 11th weapon was extremely hard to obtain for me. Though members here have said it didn't take them much of a challenge, it's one that I haven't forgotten about. The hardest part wasn't finding Liu Chan, but getting up till the point of killing Xiahou Yuan within the time limit. I'm happy that I got so stressed out trying to achieve my favorite characters weapon though, as it made it worthwhile. |

Yeah, I love that. You get such a sense of accomplishment. The same situation happened to me when I was trying to unlock Zhou Tai's 10th weapon. ------------- I was playing this earlier in the week, and I was a little disappointed that the Battle of Fan Castle isn't the same as in the other games. There are 2 different Fan Castle Battles, Shu vs. (can't remember) & Wei vs. Wu. There's no Shu vs. Allies, that makes me sad. That's my favorite one. Though both Fan Castle battles aren't bad and are a joy to play, especially if you are using Lu Meng. He's the Wu commander in the Wei vs. Wu one.

Oh that fan castle (wei vs wu). I remember both sides are enjoyable to be played but if there is ever one thing i don't get is... why is it when in the wei side, the siege weapons set up instantly after reaching the destination while in the wu side, its takes forever to set up even after reaching the point <_< Anyway i wish koei brought back bo wang po, seriously this is one of the best battles in dw4 because its full of strategies and wits. |

Lol, I don't know. I guess they wanted to screw you over when you play as Wei. I agree, Bo Wan Po was a fun stage. Speaking of stages that need to be brought back, IMO "Race for the Nan Territory" needs to be brought back ASAP. Just imagine how fun it would be if the 3 territories are castles and you have to have a siege battle on all 3 of them, and you're doing all of this while trying to get all castles before your allies do. That stage would be amazing with DW6's upgrades. |

Nanman stage was my least favorite stage - especially when I have to get Yue Ying 10th weapon in Hyper. Zhuge Liang just kept dying, although I already left my maxed out bodyguards with him. Not to mention the elephants and the poison marshes just make it worse. |

IMO the DW4 Nanman Campaign is one of the best battles in the whole franchise. But I understand where you're coming from, I've had as many bad memories as I had good memories with the battle too. -------------- Does anyone remember how awsome the Yellow Turban Rebellion (Yellow Turban Side) was? It was you vs. the world, and it was so much fun to play. That battle is my favorite in the whole franchise. First you went against He Jin, Huangfu Song, Zhu Jun, & Gongsun Zan (w/ Zhao Yun). Then, Liu Bei (w/ Guan Yu), Sun Jian (w/ Huang Gai), & Cao Cao (w/ Xiahou Dun & Xiahou Yuan) appear. Then, Yuan Shao (w/ Yan Liang & Wen Chou) appears. Then, Dong Zhuo (w/ Hua Xiong & someone else I can't think of) appears. And Finally, Lu Bu appears. Let's recap: - He Jin - Zhu Jun - Huangfu Song - Gongsun Zan - Zhao Yun - Liu Bei - Guan Yu - Sun Jian - Huang Gai - Cao Cao - Xiahou Yuan - Xiahou Dun - Yuan Shao - Wen Chou - Yan Liang - Dong Zhuo - Hua Xiong - (another one of Dong Zhuo's officers) - Lu Bu It was amazing. Not to mention that it was the best battle in the game to level up your weapon. |

Wow, my fave in the series and even I didn't even notice it had no topic. Well I can gush over this game all day. IMO its the best in the series bar none. But of course it has its strengths and weaknesses. Kingdom Play; Allows you to make your own story rather than pre-selected stages. If you like a level, play it. If you hate it, dont. I'm not the hugest fan of Bo Wan Po, so I skip it most days. Chose any warrior in the the kingdom you want. Guan Yu wasn't at Yi Ling, who cares! Pick him anyway and slaughter Lu Meng and Lu Xun. Sun Ce wasn't in the Nanman Campain, big deal! Tonfas away on elephants! And to top it off, you get to select your own ending basically depending on what you do. Take a long time, or blaze through the game as fast as possible. Get few kills, or kill everything. Each of those play a role in what ending you get. Stronger Opponents;Taking down peons and even generics takes alot more in this one than DW5. To rack up 500 kills in this game is like the equivalent of 1000 in other DWs. Heck, there are even days you cant hop back on your horse. Though that does get annoying at times  Weapon Leveling; You know what you have to do. There's no constant searching for a good one, while you are bombarded with mediocre ones. GFX;Cant tell me that this was the biggest improvement between any of two games in the series when it went from 3 to 4. The costumes are brilliant and very fitting for each character's persona. Flipped Stages; This really was the main thing that worked my nerves. Lets make a "new" stage, call it something different, but flip the previous map to do it. Put DW5 stages in this game, and it would be perfect. Auto-Lock; This is something that once you get used to, you really dont notice it. But if you played DW5 first, you'd really be spoiled. Only character that benefits from it is Taishi Ci, being he's a duelist. The Nanman Campaign; Okay, this one is a blessing and a curse. I hated it so much at first, but after witnessing that travesty of a battle in DW5, I learned to like it. It can be frustrating if you dont play with someone of higher levels like Lu Bu or even Ma Chao or Zhou Tai on a horse. But if you learn the layout of the battle it is very fun to play. Elephants, fire traps, poison swamps, traitors, what more could you ask for. This one can really try your patience, but its still one of the best battles in the series. Hope it appears in a PS3 DW game soon, I'd love to see it next-gen. LVL 10 Weapons; These can be a pain to obtain if your character isn't maxed. And some of the requirements are so obscure, if you didn't have internet access, you'd be SOL. Like Guan Yu, you basically have to start losing the battle, and you have to defeat 3 hyper officers. Or Cao Ren, if you've yet to unlock Red Hare, you'd barely make it to each seige weapon. And lets not get started on the XL requirements for some of them. But I still play this one at least once a month. Even with my purchase of DW6, I still cant stay away from 4. It just keeps me involved. Plus, I still need to max out Da Qiao one day |

Agreed with you there. DW4 still one of my fav out of the franchise. One of the bonuses I like from it is the tales stage, it's fun to unlock them and such....And collecting the endings. It was just superb! I remember replaying each kingdom for more than 6 times just to get all the endings... |

Did i forgot to mention that dw 4 had some of the best bgms in the series? First time i heard eve and my bad fellow, i was addicted to those and constantly listening to those bgm without getting bored. I kinda miss the duel system in dw4. I rmemeber killing generals in duel by using arrows only on hard mode on lower difficultiy stages. |

The duels...yeah, it's one of the quickest way of killing some generals...and easier rather than get crowded by thousands of soldiers. The BGM is awesome. Long Time Ago was definetely one of my favorite, and Cross Colors also. |

Duels were really fun, but like Kasumi14 said, it's best used to get a general out of the way quicker. But still, it was useful and enjoyable. I really liked the DW4XL Duels in Challenge Mode, that was fun. Though I could never get past round 8.
The BGM is IMO the best in the franchise and one of the best soundtracks of any game. I love every single one of those tracks. I especially love "Dancing Wizard" & "Straight Ahead". Those tracks haven't been matched in any post-DW4 DW game yet. I just got Lu Meng's Lv. 10 weapon this weekend. I love the battle of Mai Castle, I wish there was some way they could incorporate it into the next DW game. And in Lu Meng's DW4XL Legend Mode battle he kills Guan Yu there, I thought that cutscene was really cool. -------------------- {May I suggest for this thread to be stickied? It only seems fair since DW2 & DW3 have stickied threads.) |

DW 4's music is definitely a high point. My favorite dw track ever is Interceptor. I was so hoping Koei would use it in Musou Orochi 2 but they didn't
Also I hope sometime they bring back Yuan Shao's Lv 11 weapon Majesty or somethin that looks like it because that is the sexiest sword that has ever been in a DW game. I'm startin to feel like playing it more XD |

Ok thread stickied. Dynasty Warriors 4's music is great, it was much better than DW5's. The only one in DW5 that stood out for me, from what seemed miles, was He Fei Castle. However, I have always preferred the music from DW3 which is totally different to 4's. |

(Thanks for the sticky. )The DW5 He Fei Castle theme is the best song in that game. Some other standouts include the Guan Du theme, and the Nanman theme. DW3's music was pretty good, but IMO DW4 takes the cake. Does anyone remember the certain Guan Du event in DW4? The one where you let Bai Ma & Yan Jin fall and then Cao Cao tells you to retreat into the castle and he closes the castle doors. Yuan Shao's forces then goes up to the castle and uses the ram to destroy the door? Man, I loved doing that event. You really get the sense of immediate loss when it happens. |
