I've only had this game for 2 weeks and have already spent enough time on it to give my first ever review. Enjoy... To play DW6, you have to forget the previous 5 games. Completely, absoulutely, wipe them clean from your memory. This is a new game, and nearly all of what you know of the previous 5, or should I say 4 since 1 wasn't like this, no longer exists. And to truely understand this game, is to embrace that great fact. Renbu System This gives you a sense of growth in the game. Kind of like a rage factor if you will. The more you fight, the more powerful you get. It would be even better if you got an even bigger boost from defeating unique officers. And in contrast, it seems like a ploy for more offensive playing, but getting hit with bigger attacks takes it away, forcing you to use your head and a few defensive tactics like rolling in the middle of your strings to keep your chains going. A well played addition to the game. Weapon System 3 types, Normal, Skill, and Strength. Each having a different effect on the character at higher Renbu levels, and making it harder or easier to raise Renbu. But these can be made up for by the random skills you get on them as well. Someone with better triangle attacks you may want a high level Skill type weapon with the Renbu skill. Someone who's very strong with alot of reach on square attacks, you may want a Strength weapon with Berserk maybe. Depends on your character and play style really. Skill Tree Very unique addition. If you would like to see how each character is viewed in the eyes of the developers, just take a look at these. Each one is unique and balanced to the style of play that the character portrays. For instance, Cao Ren's has alot of defence early on in his, appealing to his defender aspect and patient nature. Zhuge Liang's builds up his specials and deal with elements, hence him not really being an attacker but a strategist who kills you with other things. Some follow a smooth path, others are pretty chopped up. It all serves to make the character play to his strengths early, but work to get them maximized late. Stages Some of these are a blessing and a curse. The 3D aspect of them gives a new level of realism. But when you start wondering how to get on top of this blasted cliff in stages like Cheng Du, you get lost and frustrated easily. But now looking into the distance actually looks like, well, distance. Not just a painted wall sitting there. Wolves and tigers randomly appearing in forests is a nice touch as well. Scaring away flocks of birds will be an even greater addition in the future. Musou Modes Most know I prefer Kingdom Play from DW4. But since this is a new game, the musou modes give you a somewhat new experience. There is alot of gripe about having only a few in this one and not all, I belive 17 in all. But the ones they give you are done in a good manner and more in depth than ever before. There is a scene before and after each stage. Each one unique, and giving you an inside look in what makes your character tick. This is done better than previous versions, as there is alot more substance and emotion in these scenes than ever. Gameplay Addictive I must say. Like I said before, the Renbu System gives you a sense of growth in the stages, like you are improving. And the AI is a bit more aggressive at times it seems. Though there are times the Liutenants seem to want to take you out more than the actual general. The duels returning seemed like a good thing, but dont really add much other than making the stage last longer even on lower levels. But wailing away on the buttons will get you nowhere. There is a level of concentration you have to employ against certain enemies and situations, do well to remember that. ____________________________________________________________________ Now overall I give this game a 4.7/5. I always rank things on a 5 point scale rather than 10. But this rating means buy it. If you are a DW veteran just go into it with a clean slate and you wont be dissapointed, cut characters or not. If you are new to the series and dont know anything of the 7 cut characters, this will not jade you to a whole new experience to what the hooplah about the best selling previous games was all about. |

I like this quote mate. It could come in handy for those worrying.
Well described review and a nice short read, good job. But I personally wouldn't rate it that high if I was comparing to another. Though I see what you've done there, very crafty. Also if your into errors and fixing them, the correct word your looking for is Standard and not Normal for the weapon type. I don't know if this kind of thing bothers you though. Nor does it really matter. |
