When you first heard about Samurai Warriors, what did you expect or think? When I found out about it, I thought it would be boring, the case didnt appeal to me much...however, when my friend said "Its just like Dynasty warriors" I was very intrested...of course, I didnt get the storyline at all, but I was very intrested, and I kept playing... |

I thought it'd be a carbon copy of DW with different characters. Fortunately, I was wrong. But when I first bought it, I hated it because it was too different from DW, and I couldn't follow the storyline because I had no clue what was going on. |

i remember seeing it in PSM or some such magazine as a pending game for the next quarter and i was REALLY excited. i've always preferred Japanese history to Chinese. and when the official site for SW came online, i thought the character design was brilliant, and the backgrounds were very noir-ish. it just looked far better than DW to me, not to mention that it started off with more female characters. |

I probably read about it in a small article or something in a magazine. At that point I remember being in a state of 'not bothered' and was quite weary of purchasing the game when I did in fact. This was a year or two later after it was released, so quite some time to wait. I bought the SW title with XL with it. Though played the whole of SW before XL. |

I remember hearing about it in the "rumors" section of a PSM magazine. I figured that it would be true, but I wasn't sure. I wasn't a history buff, so the only characters I really knew about were those mentioned in Kessen I. So, I had no idea who some of the characters were (at first). However, like with DW, I started reading up on the actual events, and now I know a bit more. |

Like MMan9000, I first heard of rumors about the game (I think the PSM guys first called it Shogun Warriors) from PSM. I expected it to be like DW in everyway, sans the history. That giveaway was apparent when I first saw scans of Yukimura. |

It was after I finished playing Dead Rising and I was looking through a pile of games a friend let me have cause he was moving to Europe and would rather sell his 360 and give his games to me then keep everything and import games. |

I simply migrated from Dynasty Warriors to Samurai Warriors. I played the first SW after enjoying DW5 and felt SW was quite inferior, although after I gave it more of a chance and put the differences aside I began to like it more. Much moreso when SW2 came out, now I believe that DW is the inferior to SW, funny how things can change, just give the game a chance first! |

My brother checked Koei's main site and found it there, he was really interested in the characters and wanted to give Japanese history a try, we couldn't locate a copy in Australia so we imported the game. SW is a really good entry into Koei's list of games, something to keep people interested rather than just DW all the time.

I am pretty much the same as this, though I played SW1 after DW4. and I actually prefered SW to DW at that point. By the time DW5 came along, I wasn't sure which I thought was better. Then SW2 came and made me see SW as the better series overall. I knew nothing of history, so had no idea about it and didn't care. It was the same for DW at first. I was more interested in Samurai though, as my favourite PC game at the time was Shogun Total War. After going back to play it after playing SW, I realied they were the same, seeing several Daimyo's and other officers I recognised from SW. I really just loved SW1 though, and DW4 was a bit of a disappointment besides Dueling, so I liked SW1 even more. Originally though, I had no idea what to think of it. I really just thought it'd be DW with a different story, which was good as the DW story was the same old thing with slight changes. It really amazed me when I got to playing it and it was just awesome. |

Yeah, and people may like it more because: 1. Those who DO know history are more aware of the Sengoku period than the 3K. 2. Who doesn't love Samurai? |

I wasn't bothered about SW when I first heard about it. It was only when I found out about WO that I began to take an interest in it. I thought I may as well try and learn who everyone is so I got SW2 not knowing what to expect. At first I was a little unsure being so used to playing DW5 but after a while I began to love the game. I found the characters far more interesting overall. It probably is better than DW but there is always going to be something which will make me prefer DW over SW. |

My first impressions were of it being a weaker more frustrating clone of Dynasty Warriors - the 2 main reasons for this is (a) the co-op musuo attack, great idea if you had the option of using it but if one used it your co-op partner would use it against there will also. By far the most annoying feature Koei ever had but fixed it well with the linked OPTIONAL team attack in later titles and (B) the castle battles were just plain annoying. I hated them, you couldnt get around them so i was always being shackled with a timer and a fog of war running about like a moron for ages trying to find a door, getting beat-up and so spending further time seeking out health before trying to take out all the bosses in a oner as i was running out of time. I was however none the less very impressed with Skill system and remember at the time wishing it was in DW, i also liked having a whole new cast of unique characters and movesets (Oichi and Okuni get full marks for unorthodox weaponry  ) SW2 was the pinnacle for me though, its what decided for me the SW is better than DW in most aspects. The characters all seemed to have more depth, some great battle cutscenes and intro. The return of the skill system, an expansion that added to its original game and merged with it (and not stuck as a side title as before with DW XLs). More than anything i likes how the different characters had varied movesets as so not everyone had 6 charge attacks. Some had only 4 whilst others has 8 - it meant you could pick a character for your playing style be it a special attack spammer like me or my fiancee and her tactic of never leaving the X button  |

Well my mum brought it for my birthday last year and my first thoughts were..oh great another lame fighting game...why the hell did you get me this piece of ****?! I had never played DW before, hell i didn't even know what koei was! But anyway i decided to try it out anyway. I started off as Yukimura and then about five minutes in i had the unfortunate event of running into Tadakatsu(I didn't know he was the most powerful guy so i stayed and fought him....while i was level 1 XD) and dying lol. I played it again a few weeks later and it seemed like it was going to be a very repetitive game so i put it away again until i became incredibly bored. After a few more plays i fell in love with it. I didn't know it was historic until a couple of months later either *feels embarrassed* |

When I first heard of Samurai Warriors, I made the mistake of relying on a gaming magazine's review of the game, and decided to skip out on it. I've still never played the first game or the Xtreme Legends expansion for it. I didn't get into the Musou games really until Gundam Musou Special came out for the PS2. I absolutely loved that game, and was curious how the previous Musou games were like. I finally figured out that the Musou games were the "Warriors" series games here in the US and it was then I remembered hearing about Samurai Warriors a while back. I couldn't find the first game at any of my local shops, so I ended up picking up Samurai Warriors 2 instead, and low and behold it quickly became one of my all-time favorite games. How I wish I was able to find a new copy of the first game and the Xtreme Legends expansion, just to see the origins of SW2 and SW2XL. |

yes, to my mind SW is far superior to SW2, in many ways:the VA, the atmosphere of the game, the character development and interaction, and the branching story paths. SW1 added it's XL , four great characters and was slightly improved. SW2 on the other hand REALLY benefited from the six extra characters being playable and having individual stories, and some excellent additions to of some what may be my least favorite VA in KOEI history. so, at this point i'll call them even in terms of greatness, but i'll always have a soft spot for the original. and as far as finding SW1 and XL, i rarely go into a GameStop without noticing one or the other or both, and if that fails, you can order from the internet. PlayAsia.com is VERY reliable and reasonably priced, just make sure you are getting the US versions of the games. |

Well, being a late starter of video games, I am still currently playing SW2 (getting forth weapons and maxing out people) *ish shot* so from my perspective... Needless to say I had heard "rumors" about it before, but I never really knew what it was until I came to Koei Warriors (yay!). And after hearing about it, I actually got very excited, since I was one of those people who knew and adored the sengoku history beforehand. The opposite could be said for the three kingdoms period though, I started taking an interest in the history (I had heard of it before DW but only through my family) AFTER I started playing DW. Aha. I'm just like Fayt/Sanada/Skode etc., really, after I played SW2, I suddenly felt like the SW series was better than the DW series, and I have been a hardcore fan of DW since middle school. And just to note I played both SW1 and SW2 AFTER I played DW5. 8D; I think it's the characters and some aspects of the gameplay that really got me hooked onto the SW series though. I am a sucker for good character development/story/cutscenes so I suppose SW won me over in that aspect. I still love both of the series, but I'd still have to say the SW series is the better of the two. I've always thought they put more effort into SW, mainly becuase it is about Japan's history after all and they have only released two games. Not to say that the Japanese are biast or anything, but it would make more sense that they take more pride/know more about their own history, you know? |

Wow, alot of intresting stuff here. Just something random: Even though I play both series alot, I like the SW style of gameplay better, but the Dynasty Warriors whole... scenario....is much more intresting. A three-way war is very cool. But, I dislike level systems, butIm thankful Samurai Warriors isnt flippin' confusing like other Level systems in video games <_< |

Well I was recommended by the shop assistant when I was browsing through for new games. As much as I had nothing in mind to purchase, I thought I might as well give it a try. Then, I didn't actually know what genre this game belonged too as I do not pay attention to the game types, or even knew the existence of such forums here, or gamefaqs. Popping the game into mah PS2, I started playing and thought it to be awesome. Even more better than DW to be frank. I came into contact with DW a few years back and somehow, I didn't get to complete it as it was my friend's. He brought over to play for a short while. After playing SW, I began on a collection spree. I managed to purchase DW3 onwards. As for DW 1 & 2 (?), sadly, there isn't any in here anymore. O_O |

I had let my subscription to Gamepro run out after almost 10 years of reading it. So I'd not even known about the SW game initially. I went to WalMart and saw it in the case and saw the KOEI emblem and said let me get that. I played that night and couldn't put it down for over 2 weeks! Not something I'd expect for a game that i didn't even know was coming or was out already. My first impressions overall at the time of SW *VA not bad, some (Kunoichi) had some very cheesy lines *Great mission based system *Castles/Sieges interesting idea, not executed that great *Gloomy atmosphere, but fitting for feudal Japan *Branching storylines a nice touch *Focus a bit too much on Nobunaga, but okay *Keiji Maeda was a bit broken XL *4 very good additions to lineup *Breaking the initial stats made the game too easy *All 4 new characters had "good" endings, nothing special about that But thats how I viewed the original. I still play it, and have never regretted buying it. |
