Women's rights? Hahahaha. LOL! I really hope that what you just said isn't the case. Unless, of course, you mean that in a way that I'm not understanding. (This post is sarcastic. But laughing whenever somebody says "women's rights" is a custom everybody should adopt anyways. ) |

I have one question, is homophobic bullying an issue, because it ended getting mentioned at an anti-bullying thing... (@Danion: How can you get b& for sarcasm? Also, funny post, but instead of a sandwich, I'd prefer a nice juicy steak.)*off-topic* |

Oh yes, it's definitely an issue that's still found in the school systems. However, I will say that it's sometimes hard to pinpoint or spot, especially if the target isn't "out" yet or willing to admit that it's because of that certain reason. I know some people that I went to high school with got bullied for being gay, and that was basically the only reason. I know this because they were already "out" and they were getting called all the typical gay hate names. Even I was subjected to that when I started my freshman year by some upper classmen. My stepbrother actually didn't help my situation either(since some of these people were his friends), and to this day, I still blame him for the problems I encountered. My story actually had a funny ending to it though. I heard the main guy that used to pick on me later came out as a homosexual himself (talk about irony). |

That's often the case though. Gays will pick on other gays too take the spot light off themselves, it really is a nasty cycle. Even people that aren't gay, maybe just shy or the quiet type, are almost always called "queer" or other gay slurrs. The word "Gay" has just been taken so out of context it's stupid. "That's so gay," or "That film was gay" is all homophobia in the end, even if not intended that way. The meaning of the word gay is homosexual, now days. I know back a fair few years it was happy, but who really uses it for that meaning now? Anyway, by calling something gay, you're directly linking it to homosexual. And when people call something gay, they mean it's rubbish, crap, boring or whatever. So taking it all into account, in my opinion, it's still a form of homophobic slurr. If you think something is rubbish, why not call it rubbish? Or crap, boring and what the hell ever. Why do people have to use the "Slang"(kinda) word for homosexual too call something rubbish? It really annoys me. |

@Ice Prince:Is it an issue where you're from or in school systems in general? Gays actually pick on other gays? I have many ways of expressing dislike for things, although, admittedly, I MAY have said that a movie, or song was gay. I don't really know why people use the word gay to say that they dislike something. |

Well I'd say it's generally an issue in most school systems, but also where I'm from (the south), it's a bigger problem probably due to the fact that I'm in the bible belt. As we all know, most religious figures speak out against homosexuality on a regular basis. |

Well people I think use the word "Gay" in different ways nowadays like you said Miho. People back then would use it as to describe a happy person or personality. Now it's used to describe things that are considered awful or just bad taste. Instead of saying that movie was the worst film ever they would just say "That movie was gay." It's not really directed towards anyone that is actually gay. I guess it's just easier to say and people started to pick up on the slang. I have a gay friend who actually uses the word like that which is really messed up and weird. I actually prefer the word "Gay" over homosexual because it sounds nicer to say and most of the time I hear someone use the word "Homosexuxal" they tend to be very negative or insulting. I also believe that Lesbians are being left out of the picture most of the time. People confuse reality with fantasies which makes it harder for Lesbians to be taken more seriously. I guess guys see lesbians as eye candy although most of the lesbians I've seen are far from it. |

Not ALL gays would pick on each other, hehe. And it's not everytime, but often enough a closet gay will shift the attention to someone else. They probably feel bad for it but I guess they themselves don't want to be found out, or it could possibly be that they don't want to admitt they're gay to themself, so instead they set out on a "Make other gays life a misery" crusade, i guess sometimes to almost try and make themselves feel better, or to try and prove they aren't gay. Homophobia is very ripe in schools, i think it's one of the worst places for it. Luckily for me, I didn't stay in school long enough for any such insults to come my way, though i'm sure they would've. When trying to hide that you're gay, like most homosexuals do, you have to become someone else. To friends and relatives, maybe even your own parents. It's a very hard life, being someone you're not, pretending to like things that you actually hate. I don't envy anyone who has un-supportive parents, luckily all my family and friends accept me 100%, but the sad fact is that alot of friends and families really don't accept a gay person. Some even disown their own child, it really makes me sick v_v . EDIT: @Jsun: You may not mean it in that way, but you are still using the word Gay to describe something bad, when gay doesn't mean something bad(Maybe to small minded people, but not the open minded  ) . And as for your friend, a gay person using it makes it totally different. A black person calling another black person a "Nigga" is common within the black community. I myself and a few of my gay friends call each other "Queer" or other gay slurrs. Yet, if someone outside of that circle, like a white person or a straight person in these examples, uses the same slurr to either one, it's totally different. If a white person went up to a random group of black people and said "Hi nigga's" in South London, you probably wouldn't live to tell the tale. As for insulting gays, it really depends on what kinda guy/girls they are You may get punched or slapped, but either way you would offend them. It's just totally different when people inside a minority(More gay people, as there are many different colored people all over the world now) use the slurrs at each other. And just because they do, it doesn't mean it's ok for people outside of it to also use it. |

If there's someone who's "closeted" and that person picks on one gay guy*or joins in with other people*, wouldn't people know that that person is gay. @Miho: Why'd you leave school anyway? |

Hmm not necessarily. I honestly didn't think the guy that picked on me was gay (though near the end he seemed to border on obsessive when it came to picking on me). But something else happened that made me wonder about him. After lunchtime, we'd have to stand outside and wait for our teacher to return to unlock the door, and he'd end up coming by and say stuff to me. Then one day(when no one else was in the hallway mind you) he literally cornered me in front of the lockers with his arms stretched out to block me from running when I was late to class and he got awfully close to me, and I remember I looked into his eyes and it hit me all of a sudden when I noticed how he was looking at me. I just kinda knew he was at that point, but then again I was scared at the same time. Lord now that I read that, it sounds like a crack yaoi read. lulz. |

Well, the word gay never used to mean homosexual. It was considered as an adjective to describe someone who was happy or in a cheerful mood, but then the word was used out of context to describe homosexuals. The word wasn't created to offend people like the N-word was and it wasn't taken from a longer version of a word like Jewish or Japanese. Gay is a very common word and I think that it will definitely stick around for a long time. It's not really considered pejorative unless it's directed at someone. Words like queer and faggot are considered pejorative slurs. I know one of my mom's friend's first name is Gay. |

I have no idea how Rudy Gay survived into the NBA, got be pretty tough. As for highschool bullying: From my experience, bullies who target gays also target pretty much every other vulnerable group: immigrants (at leat the boat kind), ppl with large BMI, ppl who lack attractiveness. So I doubt many of them are using bullying as a way of masking sexual orientation. With that said, note I come from one of those really large and multiracial cities, I really dont know how it is in smaller towns. |

^Yeah I can see where you're coming from. I'd say big city schools work a bit different. But when I was in highschool (at least where I attended when this happened), it was in the middle of redneck city if you catch my drift. Small town honkies that go "a huntin' and a fishin'" on the weekend, and where NASCAR is like church service. |

I actually have very mixed feelings about this... Homosexuality is one of the gravest sins in the Bible. Yet I don't think it's bad when you compare it to as the other sins like murder, theft and rape. It's harmless. I don't really know how I feel about it, but the clearest answer I can give you is that I don't mind homosexuality. I think that people who are homosexual are just like everybody else, except that they prefer same sex partners. I think it's a crime in Malaysia to be gay/lesbian though. Not really sure about it, but I remember last time in the news, the police caught a group of guys "making out" in a secret club. It even reads in my school rule book that if they catch you "making out" with a same sex person, they'll expel you. |

I heard that in Indonesia if you get caught masturbating you get decapitated. I think some people take America for granted. I know gay rights is really big here, but in a lot countries there is no such thing. I guess that's why I love America. There is so much freedom and you can literally go outside and sit on your lawn with just your boxers enjoying the cool breeze. I guess that's also why a lot of countries hate us. Sorry for getting off-topic, but yeah people should be allowed to do certain things. The funny thing is that homosexuality is nothing new. It's been around since 600 BC. Probably even before that and it's not just people, but animals too. People just can't accept it even after all these years. I think that those people are no better than the white people who would torture and discriminate against blacks. Someday I hope I can live on an island where I do not have to follow silly laws. If I want to marry 10 women then I will marry 10 women. If I want to hunt sharks with nuclear weapons then I will kill as many sharks as possible.

Oh absolutely, I definitely have to say yes on that. I know my country (United States as it probably is the same for alot of you) has a "lingering" religious effect. Our presidents (at least as far back as I can remember) seem to have some type of religious influence, and this is especially true on the Republican side. I know over in the Middle East, religion seems to be everything to them (very similar to the West in alot of ways). Seeing as most religions speak out against homosexuality, it's really not that surprising to see so much hostility towards them. That's just my own opinion, anyway. |

The priest thing is an example of the "don't say it's wrong if you're doing it" rule. I mean really, lecturing people about their sins when they're commiting the exact same sins! |
