I guess I rate them higher as well because they are the two most recent I've played (don't have next gen yet...) I wasn't as big a fan of the group bodyguards though, mind you I didn't play DW4 or SW1 all that much either to be honest. So I'm only really able to compare to DW3, and in that they were rather poor and died on me far too often. The 8 bodyguards in DW3 were excellent killers when maxed, all you could hear were their attack grunts. But I found the playable character guard (the 1 guard first introduced in DW3XL) were fairly poor. They died far too quickly on the likes of Yi Ling and were only useful for the lightning effect on a double musou attack.

Posts: 2,736 Group: Members Member #4,229 Joined: November 17, 2006	that's true, LDZ. i noticed long ago that the "famous" playable general BG did die very easily, but it sure was fun to have them, i had hoped that perhaps KOEI'd add that option in for Free mode in WO, it would make that mode much more interesting while leveling up characters, maybe add extra effects for those with existing relationships or imagined ones in WO, like SW2:E. i really liked that little twist. of further note, several of the named BG went on to become playable characters in later iterations: Himiko and Yue Ying from the Kessen, etc. and all of them appear to have been plucked from Japanese/Chinese myth or history: Matsu Maeda, "Chiyojo" Chiyome Mochzuki, Ma Yun Lu, etc.

Anyway, I want my Li Dian and Cao Hong already! :lol: oh sure, there's nothing certain about it. it took KOEI 8 years to make Himiko playable and she's certainly not in the form i would've imagined for her back then. and i'm still waiting for Lady Chiyome who seemed a shoe-in after Kunoichi fell to the purists and Matsu Maeda, who actually fought, maybe we'll both get our wishes in DW7 and SW3. Himiko was in DW3 too, along with Yue Ying and all three of Zhang Fei's "daughters" from Kessen, Mei Mei, Luo Luo, and ???(cannot remember the third one).

I used her a few times she nuts and funny, I had Lu Bu, I don't remember the big cheese was and he hit me [the bodyguard is behind me and she's trying to hit him, but she couldn't get past Lu Bu] funny

Posts: 3,660 Group: Members Member #4,250 Joined: November 19, 2006	DW2: They were pretty useful and they did actually attack the enemies which is why I liked them in this game. DW3: I don't own this game so I wouldn't know. DW4: The more bodyguards I had, the more chances I had of not getting killed since they took most of the damages for me when I was in huge crowds. DW5: I get annoyed with them from time to time in this game. There were times where they just stood there and hardly attack. Other times, they would be all the way at the other end of the map when I on the opposite side dealing with huge crowds of enemies on my own. The only bodyguards I find very useful in this game are the healers since they had saved me on several occasions when I was dealing with Lu Bu.

Soldier Posts: 2 Group: Members Member #24,055 Joined: November 5, 2009 Gender Male	I really like the bodyguards in DW4 because whenever I rushed into a general who wasn't fighting anyone, the peons would just get in the way and annoy me. But then your bodyguards would show up and distract the peons so you could focus on the general. Also they sometimes give cheap shots to generals when your fighting them. My master bodyguards in DW4 were so cheap...

It was like having your own mini-personal army. DW5 was cool tool, being able to preform a double Musou attack with them, BUT they were far more inclined to steal your kills than any other of the boudyguards in past games. >_> So more often than not I went solo in 5. The ones in 3 were smart enough to kill peons, but usually dumb enough to avoid stealing officer kills. Also it was so epic when one would die and they wore those stylish winged-helmets.

I never ever use Bodyguards in Dynasty Warriors 3. XD That is kind of the same for 4. But the Dynasty Warriors 5 ones are Amazing!! O__O I like it because you can personalize them a lot more. It was cool to have your own elite unit: you could give each member a name, you could train them to obtain a specific element and title,... But the training eventually grew boring. And not only that, they could also snatch a kill from you. When DW5 arrived, i didn't really care about bodyguards... until i obtained Xie Hui (Superior/S) , a wizard bodyguard.
