Worst unit in game, IMO. Inferior ranged unit. Inferior mounted unit. ALL IN ONE! Any tips for leveling them up? Mine are like lv 16 and I'm not getting 2 star stages anymore. Do you agree they are bad (if not the worst), and do you have any tips for leveling them/using them, espcially in this post game stages where I never get less than a 4 star stage. ?!?!?!?! |

argh, finally shuma, i have to agree with you, the horsebows are just so horrible to use, theyre awful with the range shots, and cant barely do a damn thing with the horse, but what i did try to do in leveling them up, was to just do the lowest star levels i could untill you just dont get any exp in that star rande, or if you cant, just stand back in the higher stars and snipe from distances, and just hope that your allies take the full brunt of the attack

Personally, I like them. They are one of the faster units in the game. The thing to keep in mind when using them is that their shots are direct; so try circling your formation around a group of enemies and firing. Mounted bowmen should be used to harrass and disrupt enemy units(run them down). When lvling them try to lvl freezing arrows to max along with their trample attack first(after research of course). Freeze enemies then trample them with the speed burst(sorry don't remember the name of the attack.) Movement and Defence for horsebows is critical as well. It really helps when your running people over. |

Thanks, mastering the strafe arrows makes them a lot more usable...but I still don't like them. Now I have to level up Engineers, augh! xD |

LOL ok this may seem useless as it is, but they actually are good for something, however what they're good at won't get you anywhere either way.
 the horsebows are good at:a- temperarily damaging a tough opponent with less mobility than your horses so you can hit and run over and over until you get drowsy and just pick up a real cavalry or something b- killing things that are just so weak that they die from one horsebow volley (depending on if you leveled them up or not) so that you just hurry through a level for no apparent reason that's probably a 1 star difficulty level to begin with! :lol: |

I suppose Koei thought they sucked too. I don't recall fighting horsebows but only a few times in the whole game. |

What I've noticed is that they gain experience merely by using skills, 'Strafe Arrow' is a particularly good one, though they always seem to fire to the left side so it took me a while to get used to. I've moved on to building up chariots and camels, and finishing hallberds, so I haven't brought them much above 19 (the minimum to get them to max Research), but my problem is just finding them. Is there an easy option besides constantly hiring Mongolian Bowmen recruits? I don't recall every seeing them on a battlefield. |
