*POST MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS AND REFERENCES TO BABY CROCODILES DROPKICKING PUPPIES, BUT THE SECOND THING IS UNLIKELY* After finishing Planescape Torment this evening the main thought that ran through my head was "Wow. Just ****ing wow." I mean, when I look at the RPG sub-board of Koei Warriors I see JRPGs, JRPGs and JRPGs, and stuff like Oblivion. Yet the true gems like Planescape Torment are pretty much left undiscussed. Every moment of this game is intense, extremely well-written and it grabs you by the balls and drags you to the end. To put it short: Planescape Torment is a Black Isle game (company known from Baldur's Gate and Fallout) that starts with the main character, The Nameless One, waking up in the mortuary with absolutely no memories. He discovers that every time he dies, he ressurects a short time after, and with only the tattoo on his back as a clue he tries to discover who he is and why he is immortal. (SPOILER) There are so many touching or intriguing moments in this game, I can't begin to name them all. One that stands out a lot for me is when you get to Deionarra's Sensor Stone. Deionarra was a girl that was madly in love with an earlier incarnation of you, one who was cold, calculating and remorseless. He tricked her into going with him on a journey and there he sacrificed her. The sensor stone contains the memory of Deionarra conversing with that incarnation, and you have to watch as you see your earlier incarnation abuse her trust while you can't stop it. It was so well-written that it really grabbed me. What's refreshing about Planescape is that a lot of the game can be completed by conversing. There are only 6 or so battles that you must fight to complete the game, and with the awesome dialogues in Planescape it pays to talk a lot. The ending was at the same time so satisfying yet also slightly tragic. It was exactly what you knew what was come but the terms were pretty cruel. There's so many things that I can praise this game about but this is turning into rambling, nothing more. I'm just curious who else played this game and what they think of it. And if you've never played it before, go look for it. Buy it somewhere or find other means. If you like an intelligent and well-built game and don't mind the graphics, you really can't miss it. Also, the same goes for Fallout 1 & 2 (don't get the UK version, you can't shoot children in that one) and Baldur's Gate. |

I've been trying to find Planescape for AGES. I have the Baulders Gates (also have the PS2 ones but they are like comparing Xu Zhu's intelligence to Sima Yi's. All I can say on the type of games (Ice Wind Dale also falls under this category, though its more closer to D&D style) is that use the limitations of the game to your advantage. |

I loved the game. I haven't played it in years now...don't even know if I still own it (damned PC is busted too)? I agree 100%. I one of the best written RPGs I've ever seen, or had the good fortune to play. My memory is a little spotty about the story its been so long, but the things I do recall were cool. Its one of the earlist games I ever came across with romance options. There were only two if I recall correctly. Anna and the Succubi (can't remember her name). Tried them both liked the latter the best, because of her promise at the end. And yeah, there is no illusion about where you are headed... |

(typically stated after someone tells you about how they just did something stupid to theirself) Happy Gaming | |
