Cavalry at Dawn Posts: 388 Group: Members Member #4,439 Joined: December 6, 2006	i was playing a while ago and noticed something. Cavalries, horses, they SUCK at siege. i knew they weren't bright when it came to attacking a facility/gate/tower, but every time they get to the gate at all they have almost NO morale once-so-ever, and because of that and the enemy usually has high enough morale to use skills, they're useless. There's got to be a meaning for me to get my ass whooped like that so much. so here's my thoughts. Cavalries/horse + rifles/muskets for field battles when your on the defending side bows + spears/pikes for castle sieges when defending, with a cavalry unit or two for when the enemy just pillages that's for defense. for offense.... whoa. ok wait a minute, i'll just try the even strategy, two pike units, 2 horse units, 2 bows, 2 muskets/1 musket & 1 cannon. that usually works, i was just using cavalry and muskets for everything, that's my recent problem. but what are the right times to use different units, and what unit, at what time? let me hear your opinions.

Posts: 3,815 Group: Moderators Member #1,112 Joined: March 16, 2006 Gender Male	They're probably low on morale because of constantly being shot at while they're going up to the gate. Cavalry works fine in siege, you just have to know how to use them. Pikes are superior however. Horses are not good though, due to being easy to Confuse with guns. Bows are useless in defense unless you don't have guns. A gun squad in a tower/fortress is superior any day of the week. I honestly see no point in ever using bows unless your fief is suffering heavy rains that year, and then only until you get rifles should you use bows. Spears/Yari/Pikes should be your workhorse. They should be used in nearly every battle.
