As we may have heard, a new Sengoku Musou is supposed to come out sometime this year. Thusly, new characters may very well come with such a release.

Thus, I've fished in my brains for the ten folks I'd most like to see appear.

Motonari Mori
-Self-explanatory. He, along with Ujimasa, should be the "stars" of SW3 like Nobunaga/Yukimura and Ieyasu/Mitsunari were in SW1/SW2. Story would be fictional after Gassantoda.
Stages: Gassantoda, Shikoku Campaign, Kyushu Campaign, Takamatsu, Osaka Campaign
Ujimasa Hojo
-Normally one would think I would go for Ujiyasu, but I feel Ujimasa would fill in just as well as his dad, and I think he makes for a more colorful character as well.
Stages: Odawara, Mimasetoge, Kanagawa, Odawara Campaign, Mikatagahara
Terumoto Mori
-Motonari's grandson and heir. Led the Mori against the Oda and Hashiba, and later participated in the Shikoku Campaign and Sekigahara.
Stages: Gassantoda, Kizugawaguchi, Takamatsu, Shikoku Campaign, Sekigahara
Dosan Saito
-The Viper of Mino could make for good expansion on Nobunaga's pre-Okehazama years and relations with Nobunaga/Nouhime.
Stages: Komaki-Nagakute, Inabayama, Nagashino, Kizugawaguchi, Kyushu Campaign
Kagekatsu Uesugi
-Gives Kenshin a better officer, plus it opens up possible battles with Katsuie or Masamune.
Stages: Kawanakajima, Odawara, Ueda, Hasedo, Osaka Campaign
Katsuyori Takeda
-Shingen's heir, gives perspective to late Takeda battles not involving Yukimura(again.)
Stages: Mimasetoge, Mikatagahara, Nagashino, Temmokuzan, Honnoji
Tadaoki Hosokawa
-Gracia's husband, and temporarily a supporter of Mitsuhide. Fought in Sekigahara for Ieyasu.
Stages: Kizugawaguchi, Yamazaki, Odawara Campaign, Sekigahara, Osaka
Nobutada Oda
-Nobunaga's son, won battles against Hisahide Matsunaga and Katsuyori Takeda.
Stages: Odani, Nagashino, Kizugawaguchi, Temmokuzan, Honnoji
Masanobu Kosaka
-One of Shingen's Four Great Generals and his butt-buddy(lol). Was instrumental to the Takeda victory at Kawanakajima and composed the famous Koyo Gunkan war manual. Argued with Katsuyori a lot.
Stages: Ueda, Kawanakajima, Mimasetoge, Mikatagahara, Nagashino

Mine Imagawa
-Yoshimoto Imagawa's daughter. Married Yoshinobu Takeda to strengthen their clans' alliance, but later convinced Yoshinobu to rebel against his father Shingen.
Stages: Okehazama, Kawanakajima, Mikatagahara, Nagashino, Temmokuzan

Replacing one of the above with the following.

Naoshige Nabeshima
-The most capable officer under Takanobu Ryuzoji. He would later take the reins from Takanobu's son after Takanobu's death and supported Hideyoshi in the Kyushu campaign, and Ieyasu at Sekigahara by fighting Western army elements in Kyushu.
Stages: Okitanawate, Kyushu Campaign, Odawara Campaign, Control of Kyushu, Shimazu Showdown at Osaka

I personally don't think that Yoshimoto will return...again. Or if he does, he'll be a special NPC. His daughter would be even more far-fetched, in my opinion, assuming we're just speculating.

Ujimasa or Ujiyasu, on the other hand, I believe to be quite likely. In light of the fact that Kotaro's now in the game, it seems like Koei is coming close to including the Hojou.

Edit-Gassan Toda would be better if Shikanosuke was a special npc.

I know that SW:Katana is not too popular, but I noticed that the storylines and the opponents you face during battle included many of the previous NPC's (some of whom SRS mentioned in his post).

The extent that some are involved in the storyline would lead me to believe that KOEI plans to include them in later titles. The Stealth musou mode is all about Kotaro and the Hojo, and Katsuyori Takeda plays a big part in a few battles himself in another storyline.

Granted, much of the storyline is fictional but I'm sure there's some historical facts thrown in there. For example, some of the stages are different than the ones included in previous SW titles, and I'm sure there's some historical significance to them being added. I just am not very knowledgable when it comes to the history. -_-

Im loving the idea of Dosan Saito
Nohime's story in SW1 was excellent! Then for SW2 they gave her the regular "I fight for my husband's honour" story <_<
I think that the inclusion of Dosan Saito would give her back her unique story where she must chose between her family or her husband

Also the chance of Masanobu Kosaka, of all people, seems slim. If they were gonna add any Takeda dude, it would probably be Katsuyori. I guess Sanada Masayuki is a possibility, but I doubt they'd add him either.

I'm just hoping they expand on the forces they have in the game currently rather than go out of their way to introduce the Mori and Hojo completely. Not saying that Terutomo and Ujiyasu/Ujimasa would not be great adds, they can give another officer to the forces they are lacking now.

Kenshin and Kanetsugu - Kagekatsu to continue the story with Kanetsugu

Shingen - Katsuyori or any member of the cavalry could be a good side story

Ginchyo - Dosetsu (hoping to see him) for early battles in Kyushu

Yoshihiro - ANY of his brothers, but most likely Toyohisa, same as Dosetsu

Masamune - Kojuuro (sp) Masakage or the Mogami, for Oshuu campaigns

Nobunaga - Nobutada, Nagahide, just anyone other than his wife, sis, and Ranmaru

Yukimura - Someone please, maybe that ninja chick that everyone says Kunoichi was supposed to represent, anything to make Osaka a bit more memorable.

Hideyoshi - Kiyomasa and Masanori of course. Hideyori would be for Mitsunari's storyline

The Tokugawa have plenty of representation, but most are calling for Naomasa hard core. But they need a strategist, so Masanobu would be good.

well in my opinion: I want koei to add all commanders armys available like Mouri , Asakura , Hojo, Honganji. OH the Uesugi's army , Shimazu's army , Ginchiyo's army, Tokugawa's army , Azai army and Oda army ,,, all of them should got more playable generals.
For me I'd like them to add Ankokuji Ekei, lady Chiyome Mochizuki (Kunoichi), Nobuyuki Sanada , Masayuki Sanada, all of the tokugawa guardians wich are with Tadakatsu , Ryuzoji Takanobo , Maeda Matsu, Yasuke and Oda Nobutada.

Ii Naomasa (Tokugawa): he's one of the guardians of mikawa ( actually I forgot )so he can help tadakatsu's story and because the Tokugawa does not have a lot of playable generals ( just Tadakatsu ,Ina ,hanzo , leyasu ) so I want to see more of them.

Ankokuji Ekei (Môri): he's the retainer of Mitsunari Ishida. in history he fought against Leyasu in the battle of sekigahara and was taken a prisoner and later decapitated in Kyoto, along with Mitsunari Ishida and Konishi Yukinaga.
Ekei also served under Mori Motonari, being one of his favorite retainers, always calling him by the name of "little monk". Also known to be a master of tea, and the head priest of the Ankoku-ji.

Sanada Nobuyuki (Other): he's was a Japanese samurai of the Sengoku period. He was the son of daimyo Sanada Masayuki and the older brother of Sanada Yukimura.
At an early age, Nobuyuki's father served under the daimyo Takeda Shingen and sent Nobuyuki as a hostage to prove the Sanada clan's loyalty to the Takeda clan. After the Takeda clan was destroyed by joint Oda and Tokugawa army, Nobuyuki fled to Ueda Castle, the stronghold of the Sanada Clan and where his family were. In AD 1585, Tokugawa Ieyasu attacked Ueda Castle; Nobuyuki fought alongside his father and was victorious. Later, as Masayuki served under Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Nobuyuki was sent to Tokugawa to be a retainer in order to preserve the clan if anything wrong happened to the Toyotomi clan.
During the Battle of Sekigahara, he fought on the side of Tokugawa Ieyasu, against whom Masayuki and his brother, Yukimura were fighting. After the Western Army was defeated by Ieyasu, Nobuyuki used this position to save his father's and brother's lives.
The Tokugawa generally have a high regard of Nobuyuki. He married a Tokugawa princess, Komatsuhime, making Nobuyuki the son-in-law of Honda Tadakatsu and Tokugawa. In 1622, he became the first lord of the Matsushiro clan and lived to 92 years of age. . so I want to see his story with his brother and how did they fought each other and why?

Mochizuki Chiyome (Takeda):I want from koei to bring back the NPC's not just her goemon too.
Oh man really can't wait for koei's games especially with the games on PS3 . can somebody share or help me it's too expensive ( PS3 )

Do I even need to say? The hero of SW2:E himself. Nobufasa Baba. He'd tear up.

Edit: Decided that Nobuyuki would be an AMAZING addition story-wise. I dislike Ieyasu, but Nauyuki would add depth for Yukimura.

I would like to see Sanada Ten Braves. Ya' know.

Sarutobi Sasuke, Kirigakure Saizō, Miyoshi Seikai, Miyoshi Isa, Anayama Kosuke, Unno Rokurō, Kakei Jūzō, Nezu Jinpachi, Mochizuki Rokurō, and Yuri Kamanosuke.

Quite a long list of characters that would actually bring out more of Yukimura in the future of the Sengoku status.

This is a bit too much of one type of character. 10 new playables who all have the same essential story and characterization would be a waste. Though I wouldn't mind one or two to flesh out Yukimura. I don't want him to be the flat and static character of SW, the way Zhao Yun is for DW.

In that case I would choose Sarutobi Sasuke , over due to his use in the japanese culture.

That and he's probably the most famous of the ten.

Well, maybe adding Kirigakure Saizo and Akihime as well wouldn't be so bad of an idea, that and they'd flesh out Yukimura's story line. The Oda probably have the most people playable, so make more Shimazu, Hojo, Chosokabe, Uesugi and Takeda people playable.

While I do think they'll almost certainly add Mouri Motonari and Hojo Ujimasa into the next one, I really can't see them putting a focus on them like that of the Oda, Toyotomi, or Tokugawa.

As for possible characters, the two I mentioned are pretty guaranteed, I think. Others I think have a good chance are:

Oda: Niwa Nagahide, to round out the more famous of the Oda retainers, and MAYBE Takigawa Kazumasu to flesh out relations with Keiji and Toshiie.

Toyotomi: Fukushima Masanori, Kato Kiyomasa for warriors under Hideyoshi and to flesh out parts of Sekigahara. Also Takenaka Hanbei so he can have a true strategist and not rely completely on Sakon and Mitsunari.

Tokugawa: The remaining three guardians. Ii Naomasa, Sakai Tadatsugu, and Sakakibara Yasumasa. Adds all of Tokugawa's most famous and helps balance the sides.

Shimazu: Shimazu Toyohisa or Iehisa would be good adds, IMO.

Sanada: Sanada Nobuyuki, Sanada Masayuki, Sarutobi Sasuke.

Uesugi: Kakizaki Kageie and Uesugi Kagekatsu to put an Uesugi character in both the earlier and later times.

Takeda: Yamagata Masakage, Baba Nobufusa, and Takeda Katsuyori. Self explainatory.

Date: Date Shigezane or Katakura Kagetsuna(Kojuuro).

Akechi: Akechi Hidemitsu OR Saitou Toshimitsu.

Others: Kani Saizou, Yamanaka Shikanosuke, Ryuzoji Takanobu

I don't expect all, or even half of these guys to be included, but I do think these are some of the guys that have the largest chance to be included.

Well, we'd need Kuroda Kanbei for the Toyotomi seeing as he took over from Hanbei. Masayuki would probably be more of an add for Takeda than Sanada and Nobuyuki would be more of an add for the Tokugawa. Onikojima would be a suggestion for the Kenshin led Uesugi clan.

I'm confused.

Is this a speculation topic, or another one of those overrated, "I want this character in the game" topic?

Because so far, there hasn't been much speculation being done, imo. Many of the characters people are listing are unrealistic additions. If Scorpion comes in here and demands Yasuke because he's black (because, ya know, they couldn't have any other character that's black), I think at that point this topic should be closed.

Well, I tried to put those who I thought had a better chance to be added, not just those I really wanted(Ok, Kani Saizou and Ryuzoji Takanobu are more a wish than a prediction, in truth  ). For example, I'd love to see Naito Masatoyo, Torii Mototada, or Kojima Yatarou, but I don't see that happening.

Well...I highly doubt Nobutada as well. Granted, he was one of Nobunaga's better sons. However, he wouldn't have a storyline much different from the other Oda officers. And since there are already numerous candidates to fill up all the popular Oda stages, it seems redundant to add Nobutada, especially if Matsunaga isn't added or anything.

As cool as he is, I doubt Dosan will appear in the game either. AND OF ALL BATTLES SRS, WHY WOULD YOU GIVE HIM THE DREADED KYUSHU CAMPAIGN AS HIS FINAL STAGE?! Uggh...that was probably the worst dream stage in the game for the likes of Shingen and Kenshin.

I'd like to think that many of your other ideas are valid, though I'm skeptical of Tadaoki as well.

And this is all assuming that Koei's going to even ADD characters in SW3. They could pull the wool over everybody's eyes again and have entire forces be modeled in the style of Lucas' ATTACK OF THE CLONES.

My list of possibles (note: I'm not saying that I believe any of these people will be in the next game; I personally think it's possible Koei might just include a few new characters and drop a few. I believe though, that they are possible candidates)

Takeda Katsuyori-He's appeared in many a Samurai Warriors title doing many a charge of epic fail and lulz. He also appeared in Kessen III as one of your main enemies, and had pretty cool armor.

Stages: Mikatagahara (vs. Tokugawa)->Takatenjin (also vs. Tokugawa)->Nagashino (vs. Oda/Tokugawa)->Izu (vs. Hojou)->Tenmoukuzan (vs. Oda/Tokugawa/Hojou. At first the Uesugi promise to send support, but they'll either join you or fight you depending on how well you do)

Otomo Sorin-A prominent leader in Kyushu who's most well known for his contacts with Jesuits and eventual conversion to Christianity. He'd add stages like Mimigawa to the game. His dream stage could be this: Instead of the Shimazu conquering nearly all of Kyushu, and the Otomo petitioning help from the Toyotomi, the exact opposite happens. You must defeat the last bastion of the Shimazu, while fending off reinforcements from Toyotomi forces. Seems like they just need to add another Kyushite in general. Maybe more than one, even. Kyushu's one of the largest islands of Japan (third largest, I'm guessing?). Having only one stage covering a region filled with incessant warfare is stupid.

Ii Naomasa-That one Red Devil dude that everybody loves. :P

Mouri Motonari or Terumoto-Blah.

Possibly Kobayakawa Hideaki or something?

I believe it's safe to assume that Katsuyori and/or Kagekatsu will be a new playable character in SW3. I think they got pretty much attention in SW2 even though they were just NPCs. Nobunaga and No also had a stage called "The Fall of Takeda" which is basically the battle where Katsuyori was killed along with his remaining retainers. It could be his last stage in Story mode. Kagekatsu on the other hand, could have the civil war where he fought against his brother and the battles against Shibata and Date.

I will be quite surprised if one of them doesn't make it to SW3 >_>.

I feel that Katsuyori is more likely than Kagekatsu for some reason. It might be because there are no real Takeda retainers post-Shingen in the game (Yukimura counts for Samurai Warriors' purpose, but he's been given a more Toyotomi-oriented role lately), whereas on the Uesugi side, they have the paragon of JUSTICE and HONOR, Kanetsugu.

I'd like to see either in the game, frankly.

I have a feeling that Katsuyori Takeda, Ujimasa Hojo, & Naomasa Li will be 3 of the new characters. They all played a pretty big role in SW2. With Katsuyori, I think it'd be nice to add another Takeda clan character since like SlickSlicer said, there are no real retainers after Shingen dies. With Ujimasa, I just think he'll be the most likely out of all the Hojo clan characters to be made. The Hojo played a big role in SW2, I'd be sad if one of them wasn't made into a real character. With Naomasa, he just appears so much in SW2.
