Do you have a better Idea, Kuni? Let them kill themselves? I have nothing against Gays/Lesbians/anything else like that, but I dont put Emo's in that category. They can help themselves by doing something other than drugs and alcohol. |

Danion: Well, sure there's a million other things that need to be fought for in the world but this thread was made about Emo kid in Russia. I stress that point because this is the Emo Kid laws in Russia thread, not the Chinese oppression of it's citizens or AIDS in Africa thread. On those threads I'd talk about those issues. I think you and I have just about exhausted the point though since we keep gravitating towards other undeniably more important topics. And as for what I intend to do about the 'bigger problems' well I'm an Accounting/Economy major in America who wants to help fix the MAJOR budgeting issues in the US and try to help turn the economy around. Right now I'm trying to get an internship with the IRS in Washington D.C. so I can familiarize myself with the Capital and the way the Government works from the inside. If America can recover and take care of it's OWN citizens, then it should be able to focus more on world aid, like trying to convince China to be more 'democratic' (though we're doing such a **** job at it I think a new government system needs to be developed), working towards cures for Cancer and AIDS and who knows--maybe we'll just find enough money to send Russian Emo Kids a big box of colorful crayons. Shu: I suggested morale building actions as an alternative such as funding after school activities/the arts/something for kids to do other than be sad and 'do drugs' since I hear this repeated over and over. I think assuming Emo and drugs go together is pretty unfair. Lazy and pot seem to go together as well as sports and performance enhancing drugs. Not all lazy people smoke pot or all athletes do steroids so the insistence that all emos do drugs isn't terribly valid. Similarly, Russia seems to be worried about SUICIDE, not substance abuse. I have no idea why drugs keep coming up over and over again. In America 'drugs' are a TEEN sort of thing not an emo sort of thing. So yeah Shu, I've said alternative activities I think...three times now. I don't blame you for not wanting to read through me repeating myself over and over again though. |

That's what I'm saying. With such high goals you should go and focus on that. Not on this. Good luck with it. |

Drugs lead to Suicide, they have alot of side effects. Many emo kids do drugs because they believe it will help them to not feel so sad, and, it dosent work that way. And do you think those kids are going to willingly do activites? Im sure some of them draw, but I dont think they draw....good things. Its not fair to others and themselves if they cause a problem to thier country because they are sad. Killing yourself dosent end problems. It sets bad examples, and the suicde rate goes up. |

@Shu: If emos doing drugs = killing themselves, then let 'em do it, the less of them that there are the better. There are other people apart from emos who have killed themselves, some have done it in the most unthinkable/disturbing way possible, ie Virginia Woolf putting her head in a microwave(no joke) |

O_o yeah so why do the drugs keep coming up? YES drugs CAN lead to suicide. Accidental overdose isn't suicide I'd like to remind everyone as well. But other things lead to suicide. Depression of all forms (relationships/money troubles/chemical imbalance/post partum depression/etc.), ANGER, attention seeking, LOVE (love suicides), though mostly it's depression. What's interesting is that Russia is targeting suicide prevention and not drug use or depression prevention. |

Because they already get rid of drugs....how do you prevent depression? Drugs can kill you, basically everyone knows that, therefore, I see doing drugs a way of killing yourself. |

1. You say they already 'get rid of drugs' --well obviously not if all the kids are doing them. 2. Weed can't kill you, though under the influence you can certainly get yourself killed. 3. Drugs aren't exactly the only way to kill yourself. Wrist cutting (up the river guys, not across/slitting), or more directly major artery damage (like your thigh0, microwaving your head, inhaling gas/fumes, guns, jumping, drowning, starvation, suicide by cop (As in, doing something illegal/dangerous in order to make the cops shoot you), hanging, crashing your car....I mean it goes on and on. 4. You can't always prevent depression but you can work against negative counter culture like Emo. Emo tends to proclaim no one loves you, you're not good at anything and the world is a terrible place. Soooo prove them wrong. Create programs that build skills, confidence and self esteem as well as positive relationships that prove the world isn't as bad as you think. Then make said programs widely available and engaging/entertaining/worth while. It won't work for everyone of course--but for people who REALLY need help and ARE Emo because well...they're sad--THESE people will be looking for solutions to their problems and probably will take advantage of the opportunity if they aren't already too far gone. Then there's posers of course--who are idiots (I can't think of any example of a 'poser' of any type that doesn't fit that, feel free to find an example and share), and are the people I think Russia means to target in their anti-Emo campaign. It's a bit defeatist though to try and address a negative counter-culture with a negative response. It's sort of...digging the whole deeper isn't it? |

Russia is trying to cut down on deaths in general. They have a negative birth rate there and they probably see the whole Emo culture as a threat to their population. In my opinion the law is alittle iffy because you're basically saying that people can't dress the way they want and it's discriminatory. Then again, China has a law saying people can only have one child. If it were me I would rather have the Emo law then the one child law. |

I meant that the goverment goes out looking for drugs, and taking them....
2. Exactly 3. And under the influence of drugs makes you more likely to do that kind of crap.
Theyre sad? Yes they are, forgive me if this sounds a bit harsh, but... What's SAD is that they cant suck it up and do something about it, and stop taking it out on their community. Them doing drugs, cutting school, and doing other "Bad" stuff. It makes the schools look bad, influences small children in a bad way, hurts the community, not to mention hurting THEMSELVES. Honestly, It's a bunch of Bull Crap that they are too sad to help themselves. There ARE good programs, and life IS worth living, and if they cant see that, they must be blind. |

But they're too SAAAAAAD. XD Man I can't take this seriously anymore. Have heart man, Emo kids rarely make it past their sophomore year of college. Teachers who don't cater to problem students do a wonderful job of weeding out assholes, losers and the generally annoying. Unfortunately that kid who thinks he knows everything? He'll still be there. Have I mentioned recently I freakin' LOVE college? The people are SMART, they don't waste your TIME, the assignments have a POINT and actually make you feel like you've accomplished something and at most I spend only FOUR hours in class a day. WIN.

Ive noticed they dont. But they arent doing anything to help themselves, even if we take action, it requires work on both parts. |

I'm 27. |

O_o how is it I get told to lay off after the ONE post on this thread where I WASN'T completely defending emo people? Unbelievable. Now don't get me wrong--I was just playing around with Shu, but being depressed isn't really anything of a laughing matter--I know, I'm relatively manic in my emotions so I'm up one moment and flat the next. As for not having friends, TRUST ME I KNOW. Sort of a chronic problem in my family (we're all losers, yay!) and of course once I finally got a solid circle of friends I could depend on my sophomore year of college--I had to move across the country and start from scratch. Now it's just me, my mother and my fiance'--that's all I got but thank God I have that because those two are amazing. If I had to have only two people to hang out with I'm thankful everyday it's people who love me that much and despite how awkward it is to admit your mother is one of your best friends--they both are my best friends. As for me? I'm 21, A junior at the four-year college I just transfered to completely at a loss as to how to make friends on a resident college I commute to instead of a commuter junior college. Mostly I don't get to socialize much because I work HARD on my schoolwork to maintain a 3.95 GPA (curse you A minus!), because we don't have money for college. Hell we hardly have enough to keep the gas/electricity on and food in the fridge--we make the Internet a priority because well--I sort of NEED it for school right now and it's the only affordable way to keep in the limited contact with have with people across the country. You think all that hard work doesn't come with some serious mood swings and questions of why am I even putting myself through this crap? Well commitment--I'm totally committed to getting my BA in Accounting so I can afford to get married to Avuneon and help HIM get through school so he can become a Psychologist and help troubled teens like he so desperately wants to. I'm committed to helping my mother get out of debt so she can retire comfortably and actually get to enjoy her impending grand children. Yes, I get SAD. SO very, very SAD--I do. But--like what's been pointed out about a dozen times in this thread I'm DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I got priorities and it's not just picking on the sad kids okay? Christ you talking to a girl who got bullied to the point of tears almost every day K-8th grade. And people wonder why I turned into a *****. |

Hi sweet-heart, umm accounting! (That explains alot!) jk I think that it's great that you are sticking with college. I know a few guys who did that and now have good jobs, like a PE teacher, and a government job. But me I don't think I could be bothered. Actually I'm toying with the idea of starting a church-education program. But that is AFTER I settle down with my gf and our baby. And I'm talking a LOONg holiday here! I wasn't getting at you, just people always seem to pick on the 'poor' or 'lonely' kids, and its no joke. Damn right I was one at school, and damn right I felt suicidal at times. I'm not anymore, I do have friends now and my fiancee is also my best friend. I also get quite alot out of writing books for pleasure. The last one is 220 pages, let me know if you want a copy and I will send you one free of charge when it is printed. Cheers then -lov- John R |
