Talk about either here.

The first character I chose was Mitsuhide. I can remember watching his first scene and thinking Ranmaru was a girl, until I believe, Mitsuhide mentions it, and yeah I was a bit shocked. I knew nothing about the background to the game or anything then.

I really liked Mitsuhide's voice and alternate outfit. Not to mention that the person who the game revolves around was Nobunaga, whom I knew from Onimusha's portrayal at the time.

The thing I hated the most in the series back then was the castle floors and the loading times. They were just too tedious.

Kinda like you,I knew nothing about the era and only got it because I saw a preview in one of the DW games.

The only difference is I got SW:XL first. After seeing that I needed the original game to play the other characters story modes and others,I got the original.

The castles were annoying.I hated to play the stages that had the battle outside and then play the stage inside,as it was really long.I'm a little used to those stages now but there still annoying.

the stages were good except from when inside castle
the first time i saw ranmaru i said to my self what a big sword for a girl
i
i think yoshimoto was better in swxl as well cos u see his army not wandering round by himself joining random battles like in sw2xl

i like Mitsuhide because he doesnt get too emotional about killing nobunaga and ranmaru actually does a good job defending in honoji in sw1 and nobunaga more evil and yukimura and kuniochi made the best team till sw2 wen they cut her and put yuki wid ishida and noae

Well, after playing SW2 with XL, I must admit that I still consider SW+XL to be better combination. The stories were just more deeper and they all felt unique. Mission system was more strict than in SW2 and it limited players' freedom during battles, but thanks to that, characters who had same stages in Story Mode had their own unique missions as well.

SW also proved that having less characters means better quality >_>.

^Also unlockable items that you could unlock with the points system.

This game and DW4 were the titles which had the most mood (ie; being the darkest and eeriest.) Except this game never had so many levels using the same map, but a load of repeat castle performances which really downgraded the games fun.

I wonder if we'll ever see the return of the booby traps, they were annoying but not that there no longer there i kind of miss them :(

Saying that i dont miss the castle sections where they were stand alone and had fog of war maps for each level you progressed. Very frustrating especially when your desperately hunting each room for a life vase only to walk into the stairway room and its guardian <_<

when i first heard about sw i was so happy i already knew about the era from playing kessen 1 and kessen 3 so it was a plus for me

i think sw is more challenging then dw it has more stuff to do jumping horses missions its harder better in every way and the dw story is getting abit boring now alwayz finishing at the same point every game. don't get me wrong dw series still kicks ass but i prefer sw series

yukimmura sanada55 u said that yukimura and kuniochi made the best team till sw2 wen they cut her and put yuki wid ishida and noae

the reason behind that was it was more historical i just thought that kunoichi just got in the way she was an ok character though

although they did make a good team

i enjoyed SW and it was WAY harder than DW6 but not as hard as WO. i hated the ninjas in the castle that drop from nothing and i CANNOT make it to Lu Bu in the Abyss. i always die at Floor 29 >.<

and Ranmaru's Voice is Funny He(she) looks like a little girl. and Okuni sounds like Miss Swan from Mad TV ^.^

I personally miss the SW1-style castles. they were suprising and, in some cases, nearly as difficult as the enemies you faced!

I also think that SW1 had the best combination of skill system for specific skills and a use for skill points, and their items to enhance basic stats.

And for the above poster Jason-Voorhees, if you have the english version of the game and you have XL, Use keji with his fifth or sixth and have Garyu, Mastery, rage, Gust, and the skill to increase musou attack strength th damage from lightning of nearby targets and his keeping enemies grounded w/ lightning (along with, of course, his already ridiculous musou) makes him amazing in Abyss. Since fire is an alright element, feel free to leave out Garyu. I don't know how strong lightning is one-on-one. It just makes the levels easier, especially the Strike ninja challenges.

In the English SW: XL (idk if the XL is necessary) there is a glitch to slip past your enemies in the 2-room boss rooms to musou fill.
1: run to one end of one room.
2: When the enemy gets close, run past them to the far end of the adjacent room.
3: The enemy will chase you to the edge of the first room, but will STOP AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE SECOND ROOM! this lets you fill keji's musou, get close, and use it. you'll soon win.

And once you've won and gotten the 5 books, Hanzo and his musou become Godly.

So, I just got this game (Just the original) on Friday and I'm so enjoying it.

I agree with the above posters about the castle stages and the eerie-ness of it. I LOVED how dark it felt, like a dark cloud was always over the sky. As for castles, I nearly die almost every time I play one, even if it's on easy. Stupid ninjas falling from the freaking roof.

Speaking of dying on easy...Did anyone else find this game hard on easy? I swear, I've (like above) almost died so many times. The minions (peons) are to blame for this. I'm killing an officer one second and all of a sudden...! The minion uses it's musou! I'm like: O.o?!

And the Strike Ninjas, Wind, and the other ninjas (Can't remember the third...)! So annoying.

I only have 3 stories left to do and that's Kunoichi, Goemon and Nobunaga.

I actually have no hope of getting XL (I want Ina so badly) because GameStop doesn't carry it anymore. And I refuse to buy it over Ebay.

I'll end this post with a question...After characters reach lvl 20, do they still gain the skill points? Because I was playing as No today and I maxed her but after the battle, I still have 90 points...Which is what I had when I started (Or so I think). I don't have all of her Abilities yet, so that's why I'm asking.

Well, I got both SW & SWXL (Those 2 old games are in FRENCH (French voices too) XD) few time ago before to get SW2, I played few those 2 games, I played first Oichi Story in SW, then Ina & Kunoichi 2 Stories in SWXL, wanted to play Kunoichi because she isn't anymore in SW2.
When I got SW2, I stopped to play SW & SWXL to play SW2 instead ^^ And WO come out followed by others games, so I didn't play SW & SWXL often now... XD

By the way, Silvy, I don't know if all the characters could get all the abilities, if I remember well (& understood well what I read XD), for example, only Kunoichi & Hanzo could do Double Jump, others characters may not (unless it was at the game starting XD).

Indeed, they're relentless compared to peons of other games. And their health is sizable on higher levels, you need a combo to kill a simple peon .__.
Maybe this is due to the fact that the enemies level up with your character so to always provide a challenge. (This function is removed in SW: XL)

I believe the third ninja you're looking for is the Sky Ninja :P
The most irritating of them all in my opinion, how they just fly out of nowhere and knock you a few paces.
Though annoying I like them a bit xD

IIRC the Sky Ninja did little damage, but were just a nuisance. Especially in the castles where you wouldn't know when they were about to drop. Also taking a bit of time away from you, but nothing worrying in my experience playing SW/XL.

Now the Sumo were sooooooo annnoying! But usually dodged switfly enough, unless trapped in crowds, thanks to their shout warnings. Whereas in SW2 this Eh Eh Eh Eh chanting was removed.

One thing I really liked in SW1 was that you could fight Lu Bu. Mainly in XL where you could fight him in nearly every mode. Survival Mode's Abyss on floor 30 and Gold Rush where you fight him and Tadakatsu right after each other, and in VS Mode's Gatekeeper and Sumo. :o

Only thing I hated was that in VS Mode, on normal or hard, the CPU will kill him in 3-4 hits and 4-6 hits on easy. :realangry:

SW's leveling up system is different from other Warriors games. Enemies level up with you so if you have character at max level, your enemies are at max level as well. In other words, this means that leveling up your characters doesn't make the game easier at all.

And yes, your characters stop gaining ability points once they reach max level. However, there is a way to obtain all abilities for characters before they reach the max level but it's extremely tedious method >_>.

If you have a problem with these features, then I recommend you get XL since it fixes both problems (enemies don't level up with you and your character gains ability points even at max level).

Argh, even more of a reason to get XL! You better carry it again soon, GameStop. I really don't wanna use Ebay. ._.

Thanks, LoW. I can reset No now because I have her 5th. Her HP is so low compared to her musou, which sucks in this game.

SW and SW:XL were simply great games. I will admit I never got all I could out of XL, but I have never been much for expansions. Both SW:XL and SW2:XL I never got the fullest of before tiring of.
Yet SW1 itself I could go back to inifinatly and it still was great.

I remember facing Lu Bu in Abyss mode, was hellish, though I did love this music, probably one of my favourite Lu Bu themes :P

for the game itself, I prefer near all levels to there SW2 equivelents, same with the music. The levels seem so much more basic and you don't get the same level of satisfaction out of completing them in 2. In 1 however, they were always fairly hard to do.
I did always hate the castle levels, though I did like the booby traps and stuff. If they had been kept on, but simply for the Survival Mode, then I would have loved that. Shame it wasn't.

The castle levels, though annoying and repetitive, were also interesting.

Hanzo's Ueda Infiltration for example, you could actually do it as to never once get detected, through the first few floors, or you could cut your way through armies. It had a whole different aspect to it the game.
I also like the many more Ninja Paths in this game, compared to SW2's. They only have random ones thrown in in certain levels.

Then there is also that nearly all character had more personality, and you could connect with them easier in this game. There were no rants of a single thing, such as Honour, Chaos, Darkness or such, its just a great game.

I also liked how the CAW had to pass a sort of test thing, and then had there own Musou Mode, though was always disappointed that the Clan you choose for the Trial did not effect the Musou, just effected what challenges were done to pass.

Then the Challenge modes were always entertaining to do, I love the Musou one, and the Combo one was fairly entertaining.

Also the Missions System, it was more strict, and actually effected the flow of the battle more than in the 2nd. Then the fact they were listed gave you motivation to go back and accomplish every unique mission you could with a character, so as to get all Missions complete with them.

Additionally, the enemy ninja I found more annoying in this game, which while of course annoying, I prefered. The Sky/Earth ninja in SW2 are just tedious to fight sometimes, while Sky Ninja in the original were annoying, but were always surfaced :P
I also prefered Strike Ninja's to Sumo for some reason.

All in All, I prefer these to the sequels.

Also, when I got the game I had little knowledge of the time period. I knew some due to Shogun Total War interesting me a lot, giving some knowledge and getting me to Wiki some things. I only realised it was the same time period when I reckognised Shingen's name.

I managed to pick up both SW1 and XL last week (along with DW4 and DW3 not long before...my local game stores have luckily started putting old Koei titles on the shelves again) and as expected, its great.

I've done a few stories so far (namely Mitsuhide, Oichi, Hanzo and Masamune, and I'm halfway through Ina's) and got myself a few 5th weapons too. I've tried a few of the other modes, and while they don't interest me as much, they're a nice diversion to the normal battles at times...the battle with Lu Bu at the bottom of Abyss being pretty memorable, since he almost completely slaughtered me after I breezed through every other floor. :OMG:

The only real problem I have at times is that the voice acting is sometimes a little...awful. :P Hideyoshi's "I built a castle, everybody praise me" dance and Okuni's, well...anything spring to mind. (I swear she's on the happy pills) On the upside, there's no "honourjusticehonourjustice" rubbish being spewed out anywhere.

So...erm...yeah, I like the game a lot. :P

I only played SW1, but I regard it as one of the best games ever. Inabayama Castle was one of my favorite stages (too bad they cut it in SW2). Do you remember, at the end of the Battle of Anegawa (Ranmaru's story) when Mitsuhide dies and Ranmaru does a cock-a-doodle-doo kind of "Nooooooooo!"? That was hilarious!

I got the soundtrack, and I didn't really like the Lu Bu Techno Mix. I prefer the DW4 Lu Bu Fire Mix as Lu Bu's Theme.

Yeah, I like his SW mix, as I feel Lu Bu's music has always consistently been the best and my personal favorite throughout the whole DW (though this is technically SW) series. DW4's is also my favorite as well. Lu Bu's tracks are even my most anticipated whenever the next titles get revealed.

Anegawa SW1 music.

Cant believe I never commented on this one.

I never knew of the games release, I let my subscription to Gamepro finally run out after nearly 10 years, so I didn't know what it was when I saw it in the case at Wal-Mart. But I saw it was made by Koei, and had 'Warriors' in the title. So it was a no-brainer for me to buy.
Then I saw the starting characters and said "holy crap, its Hanzo from Samurai Showdown!" For nostalgia's sake, I picked the ninja first.

Picked up the Extreme Legends way after though, after SW2 even.

Loved
-The branching storylines
-Depth of characters and their stories
-The challenge of 5th and 6th weapons
-CAW's story (one of the best in the game IMO)
-Maeda Keiji (simply the best character in the game)
-Mori Ranmaru (great story chasing Mitsuhide and Nobunaga's shadows)
-Uesugi Kenshin (ended up being my fave even though his 5th was crappy)
-Music, Anegawa and Kawanakajima rock! But I really liked Okuni's theme, best song in the series.
-Skill Tree- one of the best ways to customize a character I've seen. The only problem with that is without XL you cant really get enough points to maximize the character the way you want.

Didn't quite love
-Seige battles - took too much time, loading and everything. Glad they were one stage in SW2
-Okuni of Izumo - Loved her music as I said, but she seemed just pointless and her story was nearly as random as Date's. Sad, for the most influential female of that age.
-Too much focus on Oda Nobunaga. Though the storyline really didn't advance beyond either Honnoji or Yamasaki, depending on the story you played. So its understandable...
-Abyss/Tower mode. Nearly unfinishable without XL, which is the only way I got Keiji to the bottom to face Lu Bu. And who equipes the 5 books...anyone?
-CAW was only okay... :/

Hated (to a point)
-Kunoichi - Lots of flash, lots of fun, but without XL's limit breaks, no power to back any of it up. Plus her jumping down on you in castles all the time seemed to foreshadow Kotaro Fuma... :hmmm:
-Honnoji - Sometimes Nobunaga refused to run away... <_<
-Chaos - another case of needing XL to make something bearable. Enemies were just too tough defensively, peons took ages to take down. Keiji was the only character that could handle it with ease, well he and Goemon believe it or not. They just had the strength.

Guess that's enough :D
