First debuting in DW4, the stage was really all outdoors outside of the main castle grounds. Whilst sharing the same map as Si Shui, the battleground was full of siege preparing and mine attacks, plus arrow barrage attacks.

In DW6, with excellent music often favored by many, the stage was really just built for a simple siege where you open one gate, then the next, then the next (though Cao Cao does the mine/explosion instead of Sima Yi this time.) Kind of basic playing to be honest.

There is only a small path to the left that leads towards the castles west fort than compared to 4's huge field outside of the castle.

*Goes to play DW4 to refresh my memory of Xu Chang*

Well, I must say that overall, Xu Chang is a pretty fun battle. In DW4, I really liked the Zhou Yu recommended "Either defend the siege ramp or save your outpost" thing. The battle was real cool, and IMO it utilizes the Si Shui map better than Si Shui Gate did. I can't believe I haven't played this level more than I have.

In DW6, It's extremely enjoyable. Sun Ce's is real fun and a great battle to raise a Wu character's level. Sima Yi's is really fun and adds difficulty on top of the amazing map. I'm glad that Zhang He & Xu Huang defect to Sima Yi, otherwise you'd only have Sima Yi to use in the battle. I love using all 3 of the characters in the battle. Lu Bu's on the other hand, I'm not a huge fan of. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.

In DW4, I really liked the Zhou Yu recommended "Either defend the siege ramp or save your outpost" thing.

It's a unique person for each force saying that line - Nanman has one of the generics, Shu has Yue Ying, the others I can barely remember.

But yes. This is among my favourite stages... not just because it was intense, but because it even showed how absolutely fearless Cao Cao is as well.

I only played as Wu when I went back, so I didn't know that. Thanks. ^_^

And I agree, Cao Cao's speech is pretty awsome.

Soldier - "Lord, please withdraw!"
Cao Cao "No! Close the gate! If this is my fate, then so be it."

That was so cool. Not to mention Cao Cao's DW4 VA made it even better.

The two versions were good.

DW4 version was kinda hard unless your allies are defeated. I also like Sima Yi's quotes and the music. The main reason I like this stage is because you can enter Xu Chang Castle!

DW6: This stage has a wonderful music and design. Finally the stage where SIma Yi finally defeats Wei and a lot of Wei officers betrayals too.
My thoughts are pointing to such a violent world.

Eh?
DW5 does not have Xu Chang as a stage, it's nonexistant.
Xu Chang is a stage available in either DW4 or DW6 only.

Are you talking about He Fei Castle? Because on empires He Fei Castle is called Xu Chang.

In DW4, I love the stage but I don't enjoy playing this. I'm more into Wei-ist. I don't enjoy defeating my favorite Wei characters there. <_< Xu Chang is huge, I have to go to many places to defeat the officers and defeat the reinforcements before they attack the main camp. In DW6, its OST is totally awesome. For me, it is the best OST in comparison with other OST in other stages.

As Sima Yi's final level, on Master level it gets obscenely difficult. And I think so too for Diao Chan. Ugh.

DW4: I had a few bad experiences playing this stage because I remembered a few times I got killed off by Wei officers at different points through the stage which got annoying but that didn't stop me from enjoying it.

DW5: As people mentioned, He Fei Castle is Xu Chang in this game and it's probably my all time favorite stage to play. I love the music for it and the easiest way to get around the castle is jumping off the walk sides of the castle.

DW6: I love this stage as well but opening the gate in 5 minutes can be a pain to accomplished for your target point on the first play through.

Xu Chang is brilliant in DW6. The music is awesome, it's a nice strightfoward siege as Su Ce's and a full out Wei on Wei war as Sima Yi.

Great stage in DW6!
Welcome to China is a great track, one of my favourites. Sun Ce's Side is easy, well, but opening the gate in 5 Min. can be pain. Lu Bu's Side was nothing special,Sima Yi's Side was great.

And from what I've seen,Xu Chang on Wei Side in DW6 S is great, too! You fight Sima Yi and remnants of Shu and Wu lead by Yue Ying and Lu Xun. That sounds cool. ^_^

Combined with what is most likely the best music for a 'final' confrontation with Cao Cao and the fact that DW4 was the first and ONLY game to have the kingdoms go past history and actually assault the capital city of their last remaining enemy, Xu Chang is best described in one word.. epic. The only thing that would've made it better I think is if you had to face every single Wei general here. (Time has no meaning in DW4, so it wasn't uncommon to see generals live past their prime and appear in these final battles.)

I think what made the battle was the part where you had to decide between a quick siege, or the destruction of your main camp. This is the kind of stage that Koei had mentioned when they had said that certain stages were meant for two players- I think it's even better if you can save both by yourself (A requirement for a 4th weapon I'm guessing too.) And of course, Cao Cao's brave last stand where he embraces his true destiny. ;)

I'm pro-Wei myself, but I'll be damned if I don't enjoy this battle! I would've wished for the option to defend Xu Chang though.

In dw4 it was awsome the theme song was great. The enemy formations Sima Yi made had to make you go back and forth and the fact that the forces were everywhere

In dw5 the place was huge and confusing....

in dw6 boy i love that theme song, Xu Chang does look like the capital of chine :D and i love how Cao cao drives them back with the mines

i think xu chang would be even better in dw6 if sun ce had a story mode.imagine,xu chang would be his 2nd or 3rd stage(1st could be hu lao gate, second:conquest of wu,3rd:xu chang,4th:battle of jing(annex liu bei),5th:battle of cheng du(defeat liu zhang),and sixth:battle of han zhong(defeat zhang lu and other resistants

Xu Chang in DW4 Was one tough challenge but was a very unique stage to play on the eploding bombs in the castle was fun though it was unlucky if you got stuck in there

Now in DW6 that stage was EPIC the seiges, The different outcomes but namely that Trap Cao Cao set in the Sima Yi version was just Awesome! :D the BG music is the most inspiring i've heard for a DW stage ^_^ i think i've played this stage near enough the most because of how fun it is :)

If there's one thing KOEI did to improve DW's Reputation this stage says it all! :D
