Static Electricity; Does it bother you?

I'm not sure how successful this topic will be, but here goes:
I get zapped by bars/metallic things and other people on average about two or three times a day.
I reach out to shake peoples' hand while I'm at study, and then *zap*.
The annoying thing is, this happens all season.
During Summer it occurs because of the humid weather, and during Winter time the clothing which people wear, provokes it and creates static.
First of all I think they should stop making materials for clothes which can create static, it's really annoying.
Some people can tolerate it (because it happens so often they don't seem to care anymore), others (like me) get bothered by this little thing most days.
That is the reason I avoid touching the bars/poles whenever I can, and I don't like to wear a heavy layered jumper (those were made for static).

So... does it bother you? Have you got zapped before? What do you do to avoid these situations?

Well im not sure if there are playgrounds inside of McDonalds etc(Burger King, Carls Jr, Del Taco etc)in other countries, but they are here in the USA everywhere. My Dad owns his own business where he cleans and repairs them. He is actually the only one to do so in Utah and has expanded to Idaho, Colorado and Washington. Anyway, I dont normally work with him, because usally the only help he needs is one other person and my brother is a full time worker for him, but sometimes I work with him due to my brother taking his own route or splitting up for whatever reasons. Anyway (once again), I have to crawl through the insides and clean the tubes and stuff of that nature. There are bolts that keep the plastic tubes together, they are flat against the plastic so they wont hurt children of cource, but do cause static electricity when moving yourself along the plastic, and it sucks. The worst is going down a slide, and so you are going even faster, you get shocked like nuts. I even saw a little static bolt once, when touching one of the metal bolts going down a slide. O wow, such a long explainasion just to get to my point :P

Jasonic - Thank you, I missed one of the biggest part of static madness in my first post.
Sure, I quit those slides a long time ago. There's a three part thing in the park near my house, a basketball court, an oval, and a bunch of mixture of slides for others.
The tubes were quite large, so adult sized people could actually fit, but they had one major flaw... they create static electricity 100% of the time.
Ok, if you were sliding down through one of them along with a friend who is about to make contact with you physically while you go down... May the force be with you.
I don't know ever the makers of those kid castles realise that, but I'm not sure if the static exists in tubes like the ones they have in WaterWorld. (electric + water = x_x).

I get zapped when I touch my car or my cat, sometimes... Odd thing is that this happens only with one of my cats, not with the other XD. I get a bit zapped also when I brush my hair, I think it's plastic brush's fault.

I have never been zapped by it.... in physics at school there was this static generator thing and everyone touched it and i was the only one that didn't get a shock from it...

Once, my sink would do that whenever you touch it, so whenever washing up needed to be done I'd s**t myself.

When ever I get out of my dad's car, the door shocks me. It gets quite annoying. I usually try to kick it shut with my foot now, lol.

I get static build up easily and this is at the local mall @_@. My sister's the poor one who gets to neutralize me. I don't complain anymore about the shocks. I just get used to it.

How else do you make sure you don't charge up?

yes, i usually only get shocked by other humans, or metal/plastic objects. today at work i had baked a tray of croissants and gone away to let them cool. when i returned and reached out to check the temperature, i was shocked, quite violently, by one of the croissants? they were on a metal tray, but it was most definantly the breakfast roll that sent out the jolt. i was so suprised by this, that i screamed like a girl*shakes head in silent embarassment*. i have never been shocked by a food item before.

It might not be exactly the same thing, but the TV in my room always seems to be so increadibly static, you just need to walk by it closely and you can feel the static electricity coming off it. I get the urge to rub a towel or something against it to get rid of it, but don't know if it's a good thing or not.

I haven't researched it or anything, but occasionally it does give me a bit of a shock no doubt. I find it happens a lot when I'm grocery shopping too, my fiancée and I end up deliberately trying to give each other a shock from it, just to entertain ourselves I guess. :P

I rarely ever get shicked at all, the last time i was shocked, I was on my trampoline in the summer, and i finished bouncing and touched the metal frame to get off (we didnt have a cover then) then my foot almost like went into spasm lol. Another time, me and my firneds came back at lunch time and went on my trampoline, my friend, she asked for a glass of water, I said ok and got her it, when I came outside she was on the trampoline with the rest of my friends and I handed her it and as she touch the glass i got the biggest shock ever, it made me drop the glass and it was all over the trampoline and i almost got her wet lol, lucky she moved intime. It was a funny time
