Posts: 413 Group: Members Member #21,154 Joined: March 9, 2009 Gender Male	at first I always called him Cow Cow because ALL koei games with him in but around about DW3 or 4 I found out its pronounced Tsao Tsao and it took me a while to get used to it but now I call him Tsao Tsao (including the other Cao's) and finally Koei has realised its pronounced Tsao Tsao... ITSA MIRACLE

I think that if someone makes a mistake, they should actively try to correct it, not ignore it and act like it's right like they did before WO. How is Ts'ao Ts'ao, Suhn Chuen, or Jhu-guh Lieng any worse than Cow Cow, Soon Kwan, or Joo-gay Leeang? Necro quote, since this thread has been bumped anyway. Honestly, I wish they'd just stick to one style. I'd love it if they'd pronounce Sun Quan in mandarin for me, since I have a helluva time doing it myself, and often say Suen Kwan - getting the surname right and butchering the first name. XD But to play devil's advocate here: the correct pronunciation of their names is highly debatable, considering how the dialect they used back then is for the most part lost. If you bother to look up studies into classical (Han, and RTK era) dialects - you'll see where they're finding that they had consonant clusters that are no longer used in modern mandarin. Also some folks are convinced classical chinese was not a tonal language, and did not have as many homophones as modern dialects do. So I don't think any pronunciation is more wrong than the next. :3 Its just what's modern chinese, and what isn't. Has this already been brought up? In a year old thread I wonder... Anyways, for the record, when I first started playing these games I pronounced Cao Cao as Kay-o Kay-o. Hah. :3 How bout that? And Liu Bei as Lee-yoo Bee-eye.
