At long last after some personnel changes and difficulties with the code here is the Demo of the game

Alright, I'll just point out a bunch of things I noticed while playing.


I think the enemies hit for too much. I died like within 20 seconds. I try using block, but it still doesn't help because you get hit almost immediately after you let go of the key. Maybe if the soldiers hit for less dmg and then after every level it would go up a bit. Same with your health and special bars or just make it so you can have more then 1 life so if you're in the 5th level and die you won't have to start over again.

The telekinesis ability is cool, but it's kind of hard to drag the swords and hit your targets. Maybe if you just press a certain button when walking over a sword it will automatically fly at enemies. It's kind of a hassle to just pick up swords.

I think the control scheme is a little faulty. It's kind of difficult to play this on the laptop or if you're left handed. I think it would be cool to make the Left Mouse Button the Sword Attack and the Right Mouse button the Range Attack. Make the Shift button Block and the Spacebar the Special attack. Kind of like Dynasty Warrior Online controls.

The story in the beginning after you select your weapon scrolls really fast and the text is a little hard to read.

The application takes a while to load up. Is there any way you can have a special Setup file that will install files in a folder in the C:/Program Files and leave a desktop shortcut so loading is almost instantly.


The title screen is alright, but I think it might be cool to have Onima floating instead of just flying off the screen. Like instead of having a moving background just make it all black and bring down the Crimson Sword image to the middle and make it a bit bigger with Onima floating under it. Kind of reminds me of the old NES game start screens.

Overall the game is really fun and I think it's pretty damn awesome with all the hacking and slashing. I just wish I could survive a bit longer and had a longer special attack.

If you ever become a game developer and make a 3D game you should name it Onima: Legend of the Crimson Sword or just Onima. Crimson Sword is probably already copyrighted and I think there is a book out there named that.


GLITCH: If you take a while to kill the enemies at the begging, Shadow Ronin will announce himself before you even make it to him. Also the message about using the Insert and Delete keys for attacking seems a bit delayed.

You should also put credits in the game. You forgot to mention who created it and your company name. That should go in the title screen as well as the date created. Like this Example

Man this game is heaps difficult as soon as i started all surrounded the i just die .Second time i blocked but the they kept attacking and i couldn't do anything :mellow:

for the most part I agree with Jsun's analysis of the game :mellow:

on the average laptop the controls are fairly awkward to use, I pretty much had to stick to using Insert and Delete only (did make it to Shadow Ronin and defeated him though, mainly due to the ranged attacks).
if you are going to use the mouse for telekinetic control, having some other operations as the mouse would be good also, as its kinda awkward as you use the keys for attacking/blocking, for using the special move and for moving, then to use the telekinesis you must change to the mouse.

Then the enemies are too strong, only way to live is stay at a range for most of it really, using telekinesis or the ranged blasts to kill them.

I also believe the text at the begining is too quick, I could not read it all on my first attempt :mellow:


all in all the game is great though, just at the Demo stage it has some things that could be better.

Well, that is why we release demos, that way I can get feedback and fix things before the final version.

Firstly, I like Jsuns idea for a control scheme. I'll try that and see how it goes.

Secondly, Sorry if it seemed difficult, it is hard to gage difficulty when you are the game's producer. I beat the stage most of the time, but that is probably because I know the game inside and out.

Thirdly, there are game credits. If you look at the game controls it says "for more information press F1." There you will find the game controls and credits and this information can be accessed any time during the game.

Fourthly (lol), technically that isn't a glitch there Jsun, but I can make it a tad easier and make the boss spawn closer to the text trigger.

Fifthly (not a word?), the final product will have to where you can save in-betwees stages, that way you don't have to start all over if you blow it.

Sixthly, I'll slow down that scroll speed for the story for you too.

Seventhly, I have thought of a way to make telekenesis more effective. I'll just have the way it is now and then when you click it the sword or spear will allways move towards your mouse until released.

I think that is most things. I do hope you enjoy it and realize that it is super hard to make a game all by yourself, but I hope you found it worthwhile. Thanks for the feedback guys. I will make sure to address all of these issues.

First post updated with a checklist so that you will know how the game is progressing. Once everything on the checklist is complete the full game will be complete. I will probably release 2 versions one for poeple like me on a desktop and a version for people like Jsun with a laptop.

Production Update!

I have finished Stage 2 for Mission and have made alot of progress in Versus Mode, which I estimate will be done in about 2 weeks! Versus Mode is getting better and better. All of the characters are different from each other, some have potent attack strength while others attacks focus more on building the advantage meter. some are quicker and some are stronger. I think that everyone will have a favorite, many will appreciate Mitsuhide for his quickness, while those who like lumbering slobberknockers will enjoy Tadakatsu and Ieyasu. And for the ladies Noh may not have much range with her melee attack or attack strength for her arrows, but so far she has the most powerful special attack.

Progress Report: Well, I've been making progress on versus mode. I will tell you that Mitsuhide and Shadow Ronin are totally completed. All controls, instances, and code checks out. Just 7 more characters to go and versus will be 100%. And once done I will work on story, which should take less than half as long to complete as versus mode, so once I get to that point production should progress much faster. Once I finish versus mode (hopefully sometime this week or next!) I will send it out to testers and send scripts to my VA team so they can finish their lines, After which point the game should be completed within 2 weeks!!

Anytime during the game you can press F1, this will pause the action and show you the game information including controls.
