I have recently read a book called 'The Silmarillion'. It is a really great book, though it can become confusing. It is the whole history of the Lord of the rings. From before the first all the way though the third age. If you think you know the lord of the rings, then you don't even know the halve of it(not to be rude) until you read the silmarillion. Is there any fans of this series amoung you? |

I have the book and the story about Beren and Luthien is my favourite. Its just so romantic and I won't mind reading it again and again. I also like about how the elves came to the world any why they love the stars because it was the first things they saw when they first came to.
Then again I forgot the whole thing and need to read it again.. o.OAnother book I love is the the compilation of the poems of the universe of LoTR. Tom Bombadil is so delightful but there's still not much known about him.

I agree, Of beren and luthien is one the best chapter. I have listened to it in audio, which rocks very much. Tom is one of the most fun characters I have ever read. Always happy he seems, and ready for a song too. |

The Silmarillion was my favorite book back when I was all crazy for everything Tolkien. Oddly enough, I can't remember any particular tales that I really liked above others. I didn't care much for the romance of Beren and Lúthien, but the really messed up "romance" stories of Nienor and Túrin (I prefer the version of the story in The Unfinished Tales, though) and of Eöl and Aredhel were actually pretty interesting. I really enjoyed the tales featuring Maedhros, the only half-decent son of Fëanor and I wish Tolkien had written more. I also wish he'd written more about the Second Age, particularly about Celebrimbor's forging of the Rings of Power and Gil-Galad, the last Elven King of Middle Earth. |

Yeah, I've got the Silmarillion along with The Unfinished Tales and The Children of Hurin Personally, my favorite tales involved Feanor or Turin. Feanor, whose skills were so great and awesome, yet his life was tragic and his fall sad, it made for a great story. Turin's was just as good to me, a man despite his great strength and courage who would be cursed by fate. Tragedies always made for such good storytelling and I found those to be my favorite. Its a good read, I myself have read it a few times, though not so much lately. Its something any fan of LOTR should check out, along with Unfinished Tales and The Children of Hurin. |
