It only recently occured to me that in all the time ive played WO1/WO2 ive never actually touched Free Mode, since it seemed like everything could be done in Story Mode so im wondering, is there actually any difference between Story Mode and Free Mode? (apart from the fact that you can use all characters in any chapter in Free Mode, which can also be done once youve played all stories) |

You hear officers death quotes rather than their retreat quotes (More fitting for the last stages) and if you don't want to hear all the conversations. |

^ Yes, that's the difference between Story Mode & Free Mode. In fact, Free Mode is without the "Story" XD (Don't know if there're anothers differences...) Well, maybe we can also discuss about our preferences in this topic too. I like both of these Mode, Story Mode because it's in this mode we unlock everyone + more or less everything & watch the Story, Free Mode, because you're more free, you don't follow story, it's for the fun XD |

In my opinion is Story Mode the better one, because you get background information about the character and than you can choose the character you like. But i like Free Mode, too. |

I like story mode because I don't get kicked out to the title screen every time I finish a battle. Weapon farming and leveling is much more efficient if you can get right back to business rather than having to assemble your team over and over and over again. |

Story Mode is my answer. Since you have your leveling team already I prefer Story Mode. As for Free Mode I don't like selecting the characters again. |

Yeah, Story Mode is more suitable for my tastes, I haven't liked Free Mode for ages. Its really gone and lost its charm over the years, like how when playing the story mode had benefits and Free Mode had none whatsoever (except the above which are rather minimal...) Story Mode does what it implies - tells a story. It has also in this case with the WO series got an option to find random conversations which mean little in the end, but are rather worth playing again just to see what happens and who speaks. Plus obviously watching those cutscenes is cool. |

Definately Story. Free mode does not give any advantages save a few minor stuff like no convos or scenes sometimes. Or if you want to hear the death quotes. |

There should be a poll added to this... I like Story mode better then free mode since its just the same thing except you have stories and etc in the story mode so its much better. I use Story mode the most...Never really sue a free mode |

I find Story Mode more useful for grinding, simply because once you've chosen your level, you choose your party once and that's it; once you complete the level, the party remains as default. Saves the hassle of scrolling through the roster for your team of three every time you want to go through a campaign. |

Good addition this poll, guys ^^ I've voted for Story Mode too, because even if I like both of these mode, I've a preference for Story Mode, it's in this Mode you win most of the unlocked bonus, & you learn about WO Story. Free Mode is more for training/level upping characters (for example) & to play without story adds. |

Really, Free Mode as a mode is only really useful in the main DW or SW games - since you can't play as your preferred character in every stage in Story Mode. In WO... like Rydian said above, even the interface is better. |

I voted for Story Mode. Story Mode and Free mode are same except in story mode you have more character interaction get items ect. and in free mode you don't. I've always played story mode because you can pick any character for any of the kingdoms but i have never played free mode in WO. |

Both, as I only play story mode to see the story for each kingdom and I play free mode when I am picking random player or when I want to level a character up .......... |

Mainly, I would pick story mode because of weapon farming and obviously the story. Free mode is only for the miscellaneous things such as unique conversations or officer death quotes, nothing else.The idea of free mode is meaningless in WO2 since you are already free to do everything in story mode once you complete all sections. |

I like Free Mode because it cuts out all the pre dialogue talk which I find annoying at times. Most of the dialogue is too long and I have to constantly hit the next button just so I can get to the fighting.

I dont really bother with Free mode, once that ive finished at least one story mode...I can just train the other characters in those levels that I am able to use all characters for
