Warriors Orochi 2 is the sequal to the hit crossover Warriors Orochi which released a year before. It continues the story of Orochi bringing together the two worlds of Ancient China and Feudal Japan. It brings in addition to the original 79 characters, 13 new characters plus 2 others for challenge and vs modes only, making the full roster of 94 playable characters. WO2 also adds new gameplay modes such as, Challenge mode, VS mode and Dream stages, which add more depth to the characters involved. Gameplay: 9/10 Warriors Orochi 2 continues the same system of the three character tag team. Switching between each character through the L2 or R2 button. If your character is on low life, simply switch characters. Remember, if one character dies, its game over, plain and simple. Another advantage that comes from the tag team system are your special musou attacks. When released, switch over to the next character while continueing to press the musou attack button, this will cause a much stronger musou attack to happen, and can even be transfered to the third character. Along with this, newly added, are the special triple attacks. These only work with a specific team set up and must be done with full musou gauge, while performing it with both the R2 and L2 button. Each character has their own movesets of your same basic controls of mixing your regular combo with charge attacks. Along with this, each character has their own special R1 attack, which are enhanced attacks or powerups, and are usally specific to each character on which of the three character types they belong to. These include Power, Technique, and Speed. Speed characters are able to perform a double air dash or jump. Characters R1 attacks usally are performed with little to no musou gauge usage, but it varies through each character. Power characters usally have added and enhanced stamina, and depending on difficulty can hit through enemies attacking them or arnt usally pushed back when being attacked. Their R1 attacks usally include a heavy blow that takes away high damage and uses a great deal of the musou gauge, but it also varies. Tech characters get an added enhanced attack ability to each of their charge attacks when switching the use of the charge button for the R1, this also depletes some of the musou gauge. They also have in addition their own unique R1 attack. Alot people will be pleased to hear, that if some felt certain characters to be nerfed up in the previous title, most have been fixed and will feel alot better to use then previously. Archers, riflemen, cavalry, sorcerers are among many annoying nuisances in the game. They often attack within larger groups then normal. And whether none might not deal heavy damage, they often get in your way of fighting your real targets. Among previous siege weapons, there are a few new adds, such as statues that move toward your direction, inflicting small damage and knocking you back. Another addition to the game is the Tenbu system or Weapon Enchantments. These are weapon enhancements that will go along with your regular attributes. In cost to obtain one to add to a weapon, you will have to unlock the treasure used for it and also exchange a weapon with the right attributes to be able to use it. Some are small adds and dont do a whole lot, but there are others that have major cheapness to them. Almighty and Revival are the two biggest examples. Revival refills life gauge once depleted. And Almighty adds on all elements and practically makes you unstoppable even at the highest difficulty, and can ruin the fun of the game for a lot of people. Story 7.5/10 There are five stories in all, in which each includes 8 stages. The stories of Wei, Shu, Wu, and SW are all quite similar in which each starts out after the death of Orochi from the first game. And each goes through its own unique story of stopping Da Ji and newcomers, Kiyomori Taira, Sun Wukong and Himiko from resurrecting Orochi. The new fifth story mode is that of Orochi's. Following him through which was the time just before the first game was based, that led up to each of the kingdom's captures. But with about ninety something odd characters, it is hard to get each included within the stories. And this games shows nothing different in places the lesser characters not getting much in the case story. Replay Value: 9/10 There is quite a bit to do after the 5 story modes are complete. Leveling up characters to 99, getting their proficiency to 50, obtaining abilities, getting fourth weapons. Also there is the new mode of Dream stages. There is 28 unique stages, in which each places three specific characters together as your team. They give more depth to each character, while provideing more dialogue and a small story to go with the team. Another added mode is Challenge Mode, in which acts similar to a fighting genre game. Place your three selected characters against a random team and try to defeat them or knocking them out of the ring. Just to see the highest level you can get to, with each win, the difficulty grows aswell. This though, can get quite boring and take a while to get to a high level just so you can have bragging rights. I mentioned before, the weapon enhancements, and in order to get these, you must first obtain treasures. In most levels, there is a treasure to obtain, and in order to get these you must first complete the specific mission or scenerio in order to get it. If you are looking for multiplayer, there is a VS mode, in which you are able to play against a friend in in a few different type scenerios. Doing a lot of this stuff of obtaining treasures, completeing dream stages, level characters and what not, takes quite a lot of time and you would be playing more replay then your first go through of the story modes. This could be a lot of fun, but also gets very tedious to play through each level over and over again depending on what you are aiming for. Sound: 7.5/10 This game does add some new tracks to go along with the ones in the previous game. I feel that each of these tracks are good adds and mostly a joy to listen to. As far as character speach goes, each character has their own set of unique lines. Some of the voice acting has changed from WO, but most remains the same. The new characters all sound quite good IMO. But some characters just tend to be annoying overall. Graphics: 7/10 With the 360 version of the game, you are going to find a clearer picture. But still the graphics are or seem to be no different then most Warriors games. But mostly they are expected and I enjoyed playing through the game with them. Some levels or spots within levels can experience slowdown. Chi Bi is a great example of this as you will most certainly experience it, if not through almost the entire level. but overall, i suppose it is not much of a difference from past games. Rent or Buy? If you are a big fan of the first game or any of the Samurai or Dynasty Warriors titles, then I highly recommend for you to add this to your Musou collection. If you have played the first game, but are not a big fan, then I would probably suggest renting it. But it is a good game for any hack n slash lover. But the game does tend to be very similar to its previous title and would suggest buying this game instead of the first if you havent played either. Overall: 8/10 this review is based off of the PS2 version. Besides graphics, 360 version has no major differences |

Great review. You pointed out some interesting facts. Much better than other site's reviews, . I want to add that there's really only slowdown on the Xbox 360 version. There's hardly any on the PS2. |

You're right. Chi Bi's the only stage I feel with real lag. The rest seem pretty ok. Good review and it's fair enough for the game

Nice review man, I think this is the first I've read from you on the forum. I found one part of your replay value section a little contradictory though. You've used the terms "quite boring" then " very tedious" on another occasion, yet still gave it a 9/10? Is that rating based on the amount of various tasks to try achieve, as opposed to replay enjoyment? Otherwise it's great, I also like how you noted it's a review on the PS2 version.

I think what he meant is that you will spend a lot playing times to complete it (hence he gave it 9/10). For me, finishing this game means unlocking Shin Orochi which I agree is "very tedious" because you have to play all the dream modes. Some dream modes need to be unlocked. Some require you to max level or max proficiency of certain characters. I think stage 27 requires you to have more than 2000 proficiency in total. Btw nice review Sonic. @Fayt: Challenge mode is a very small bit of what I consider part of the replay value, and thats where the words "gets quite boring" came in. Other then just giving it a try a couple of times, I dont play Challenge mode much at all. You minus challenge mode out, and the replay value is still through the roof. There is just an insane amount to do in this game. The reason I mentioned "tedious" was due to a big part of the replay being that you have to complete at least every level 4 times, once for each difficulty. But that is just on the level itself and not how you play it, and what i mean by that is you can be using a different set of characters every time and so you will be having new experiences. Giving a 9/10 dont mean you cant throw in a few hinders in there
