What do you think about Racism?  I'm not a racist but I'm not totally against racists ether, if they have a valid reason for being so. What do you think? |

I can sometimes see why they may target immigrants but in general I do not like seeing someone being mistreated for racism I admit I do make some racist remarks between my mates for laughs vice versa as they do to me as we dont get insulted by it but on the hole I am not racist |

according to anthropology, race doesn't even exist; culture is defined by lifestyle, not skin :S I find that a little hard to get my head around sometimes. Either way, I have nothing against any race. |

Im sorry, but I can not help but laugh over this trollish comment I am not against certain races, I am against the certain lifestyles catagorized by certain races. Like, I am against street gang lifestyle that people often associate with black people, but I would treat a black person ,who has the same type lifestyle as me, as I would with any other person I know. So i am not racist, I will treat everyone the same based on their lifestyles or what they have done for themselves in life. |

I have absolutely no problem with skin color, I really couldn't care less. However, there are certain "cultures" or types of people whom I strongly dislike, and you could even say hate. I don't like to use that word because it is strong, but I feel it is nessesary. And it just so happens that most of the people or cultures I dislike belong to one or two races.

as most folks here that know me are aware, my BF is black. so i can easily say i am not racist in the slightest. i grew up in a household and culture that felt the general bigotry of the South to be repellent. my father was military and my mother was a teacher, they both had many ethnic friends, one of my mothers closest friends was black and i spent summers with my mother and her friend and friends family. based on my relationship and our experiences with the public, it's shocking just how widespread racism still is. grocery shopping is ALWAYS an adventure. gay interracial relationships are even more frowned upon than single-race gay relationships(if that's possible). so my tolerance for stupid is very low. every culture, whatever the race has it's ner-do-well's and "thugs", you just have to approach every case with an open mind. I'm equally racist against everyone. I find a bit of racism in the entertainment industry quite a refreshing break from all the political correctness. Racism is okay as long as it's funny. Violence and all that is not okay. |

in not racist at all...and i dont like people who encourage racism or make absolutely obsurd decisions because of their racist tendancies but the thing is...the community that i live in...there isnt that much diversity in skin colour...so i dont really get exposed to the differences in race all that much |

me too  though there's more of a diversity at uni. I think there's a much bigger diversity in more popular places, like capital cities and the gold coast and stuff. For a while there was a large increase in the amount of Asian and Middle Eastern people in Nelson Bay even but that seems to have died down... :S |

Agreed. I'm positive most people saying that they are not racist is just a load of crap. Covering yourself up only further seperates you from who you are, I make all sorts of jokes to begin with. And say anything I like about that matter, as long as you don't pass a limit your fine. The way I look at it, we're all the same so I could careless for a racial term. |

I am not a racist. However I despise those who use their race as an advantage or "Free Power Up" to get through life. I mean, you see people being all "Just because I am black you think I did it?!" or "Oh...okay...blame it on the white person." It's sickening. People should just live in harmony without racist things. |

I am not a racist. My univ has different ethnics, cultures and religions. Some are Chinese, Indian, Nepalese... I don't mind with them, just make friendly. Don't be racist, or I'll be a racist too O_o |

I myself am not a racist. But then I don't have a problem with people that wish to live with their own kind, without hurting or persecuting others. Take Hitler, his view of a perfect race went too far, I can understand he himself wanting to live with only people the same as him, but to force everyone else do it was wrong. But also, people who absolutley love video games tend to hang around with other people that do, and may feel uncomfortable around others. The same goes for sporty people, people into a certain type of music etc. |

I'm not racist. But I'd have to admit I do ocassionally sort of poke fun at other races, not in a mean way but in just more a humourous way than anything else. Like, dunno if any of you have played it but in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 there's a black guy in your team and me and my sis have all these little jokes about him. Most of them aren't even racist. (Like the fact that you just NEVER see him without his tactical helmet.) But we always make loads of jokes about him being an absolute pimp and he's had sex with like every female intel officer ever. And because he's just like big and black he uses a massive heavy machine gun. We only mean that in a funny way though, it's not like we think all blacks are pimps etc. because any race is just like any group of people; they're all different in some way or another. Any kind of race-related jokes I make are usually positive, like Oriental people just being the best at everything. (I mean seriously! They make all the best electronics, they perform the best in school and they invented martial arts... You just don't mess with them.) |

I'm not a racist, as I believe every race is equal. I'll make racist jokes, but it's only in good fun and it all falls back to me believing that every race is equal. I mean, if you really think about it, all stereotypes are true to some of the race they talk about, and I like to exploit that in my humor. It's all in good fun.  I have a question. Has any person here gone to a mostly-white Elementary or Middle/Jr. High school? Because my brother does right now, and the racism there is just crazy. They make racist jokes all day and my brother hates it. I guess they're not afraid to say these things because they don't have to directly deal with the races they're making fun of. I'm just wondering if that's a norm for those types of schools. "I'm allowed to make black jokes because black people are in my family tree. See? They're still swinging there." (Which can be taken as "black people are monkeys" or "I lynched black people") "What's the difference between a dog that's been hit by a car and a black person that's been hit by a car? There were skidmarks near the dog." (To imply that people care more about dogs and they didn't try to stop when they hit the black person.) "What's the difference between a black man and a bench? A bench can support a family of 5." (Ok, I'll admit, I laughed at this one since it exploits stereotypes.) "Why did Hitler kill himself? Because he saw his gas bill." (IMO this is the most racist and unfunny joke I've ever heard. Poking fun at jewish stereotypes? Ok. Making fun of the millions of people that died during the Holocaust? Unacceptable.) The school I go to, it is very much predominantly white, in the entire school, im sure ive only seen one black student, and a fe asian/oriental students, but overall, its not overly racist. Sure there are some people who can be quite racist, and some racist comments may come out, but I think the majority of us arent that bad about it. We have a friend, he is from South Africa, so we make jokes about that, we also have a friend who is from England, so we also makes jokes about that. Those are really racist, but there's another friend in our group, he looks fairly asian, but hes not, but we make jokes as though he is...its not being racist, its just having some light-hearted fun. |

I'm only racist when I'm angry at people. For example, I live next door to a white family with the dad being a cop. He and the rest of the family are all jerks and they have a dog that I'm not afraid to take down in self-defense. So that would be a case where I would call them "crackers", "honkies", etc. But I have white friends too and I don't address them in the same manner since we're cool with each other. Sometimes my friends and I crack out a few jokes but it's all for good fun. Hell, we even poke fun at ourselves from time to time. |

I think that's the type of thing that is healthy. Hiding from the fact that we are different racially, only seems to increase the hostile nature of the subject. I'm not saying you should try and joke like that with everyone, but if people you know and are friendly with don't have a problem with the odd comic joke being thrown at them, or dishing it out, then fair enough. |

meh, I'm not against racism but I think many people are really too sensitive about race and stuff; I've noticed that in America the whole race issue seems a bit edgy, and places like Japan, well if you're not born there the chances of getting any respect are basically 0. But if you live in a place like Australia (which I *lovingly* refer to as 'the world's rubbish dump' when I'm in a fowl mood), you HAVE to at least tolerate other races/cultures. Actually, I think Australia's going through a real identity crisis (or at least I'm going though a National identity crisis  ). The image of the bloke in front of the BBQ is fading out to other cultures that just started living here relatively recently. It's kinda scary seeing what I thought (and grew up believing) was the National Identity quickly fading before my eyes. In that respect I can understand racism occuring. And while I'm not trying to disclude Europeans from racism because it's wrong yada yada, I can't believe that things like Islamic schools (in Australia) banning the Australian National anthem are happening. I mean sure, preserve the culture and whatever but for crying out loud you *live* here! I think that any culture that immigrates to another country to live should assimilate to it to at least some degree i.e learning the native language and national anthem, and respecting and following the law to at least some degree. If nothing else, I believe those three things should be done. and that's my mini-rant for today XD |
