I'll have to go with SW2/XL. I liked the how they added the amazing backgrounds and the story seemed more unique. And the Dream Stages were cool. I did miss the fact that they cut the Secondary stories. :(

I also enjoyed the new Mercenary Mode in SW2XL.

SW2/XL. SW2 was a near perfect game in the genre, and when you add it with XL you get a game that's just plain awsome. They're extremely fun. I may be a DW guy first, but I'll admit that SW2XL (with the ability to import) is probably my favorite game in the entire DW/SW series.

I went with SW2, I loved the game and it was flawless in the terms of being a good musou game. SW1 was different and more unique from other games and was really good. SW2 tended to go more of being like past DW games rather then being like SW1. SW1's layout was great, but I prefer a layout more like DW5 and SW2 was more closer to that, plus more.

I have to go with SW2/XL since the fighting style is cool with R1+Triangle or+square. The musou attack of theirs which is Awakening 3 is a good way to beast officers. Plus the new characters were great also. The abilities of your characters can be bought in the shop which makes their abilities good. I didn't like the way some female characters has the same musou modes as their husbands or family. I gotta say that the Dream Stages are challenging and good. I loved this game. ^_^
My thoughts are pointing to such a violent world.

SW2 Empires. I rate the best in terms of what I get the more replay value our of.

I can very easily replay Empires several times, alternating who my main commander is, officers I hire, tactics, areas to attack etc. There is a near limitless range of scenarios you can tackle. I generally have a greater liking for games with more of a strategy/RPG feel, and this offers just that.

The stand alone versions are great and all, but once I finish the story modes of the characters I like I generally don't play them much more after that.

SW and XL. where to start...i just entirely LOVE the whole feeling of the game, and i dislike that SW2 took after the DW series in terms of atmosphere and lack of Story paths and continuity of unique storylines. the noir-ish nature of SW/XL was so fitting for the era and for my tastes. i always go back to SW1 and XL, even when the other Musou games bore me.

i don't really care for many of the added SW2 characters as much as i do the original cast. i don't feel like trading Kunoichi, Goemon and Yoshi's uniqueness and removing Okuni and Ranmaru's Stories was balanced by the additions. i don't feel like Nagamasa, Nene and Musashi added enough of a different feel to remove and relegate those original characters to obscurity. thankfully lots of folks agreed and the missing three have made a return in Orochi, Ranmaru and Okuni have both played large parts in that Tale, and Yoshi was revamped and reinvented to much love in SW2:XL.

the removal of the branching story paths was nothing short of criminal, as that was one of the shining jewels of the SW series making it so different(better) than the DW series. i am truly hoping that that feature makes some sort of return in the future, and not just the one level Gaidens.

i did love the adding of the Island Folk as they made a great divergent storyline for the game. and SW2:XL's adds were all excellent. the noir-ish feel was partially restored and i have high hopes for SW3.

Sw1 it had a true samurai feel to it, 2 was more a fantasy game with lots of colors.
I rather keep things relatively realistic, and have a more feudal atmosphere.

SW1/XL. Foomin summed it up nicely. I love everything about the game (yes even the castle stages). The stories were actually interesting with far more character interaction and such than we have gotten in any of the other warrior games. I was really sad to see SW 2 lose so much that made SW 1 unique.

Also the voice acting is some of the best Koei has done. Everyone's voice worked great. I know a lot of people hate Ranmaru and Okuni's voices but I enjoyed them a lot. I like that Ranmaru's girly voice is done by a guy instead of just sounding like a woman as he does in SW 2 and WO. As for Okuni, she is so fun and whimsical in SW 1. I found her really boring with her new voice in SW 2.

Best thing about SW 2 to me is Kanetsugu (well that and all the questionably gay moments with him, Keiji, Yukimura, and Mitsunari  )

My all time favourite SW will be SW1  It was my first KOEI game and after playing DW games and SW2, I understood that there is no game better than SW1. At first - it's hard, even if u play on easy it depends on the level of ur character how aggressive enemies will be. Then - several endings, even Created characters have endings (omg O_O). Many weapons, VS, unusual CAW mode ^^ SW1 is kust plain awesome ^_^

SW2 by far was the best. Interesting characters, good voices, music, unique weapons.
Only thing I didnt like about it was that each stage felt like a square, no uniqness there.

SW2XL because SW1 was too hard. I hate how you had to share a musou bar and that as you leveled up, all the enemies leveled up too. :(

Hard? Isn't it what is entertaining? Enemies are getting stronger even on easy difficulty, depending on which level you are. I think it is great. But it's just my opinion ^_^

I would have to go with Samurai Warriors 2: Empires as my favorite sw game, simply because of the Empires' gameplay system. I absolutly love being a king.

SW/XL

The mood seemed a lot better. The colors were less saturated, which I thought was really cool. I also found that the stories were a bit darker. Noh had that weird love / murder thing going on. Yukimura fought the losing battle. I really liked how he died at the end of his story, it made it feel so realistic, and it made him seem more godly when he actually made it to Tokugawa.

The stories and characters were also superbly done. I loved the amount of interaction between characters. Mitsuhide and Ranmaru's fictional relationship stands out a lot. They both had a good deal of interaction with other Oda retainers too. The split stories were fun, giving a what if concept to the game. I thought this let the characters have a more historical story, while still maintaining the history. I will admit, however, that the SW2 dream stages were great for absolute fun, instead of an alternate ending. But the split stories outweighs that. I found the interactions between characters in SW2 was really disappointing, with a lot of them only really interacting with one other character.

Stage design was also really good here. This has something to do with the mood, but also just the design in general. I found the stages more interesting. SW2, the stages all felt the same to me. In SW1, different stages played completely differently. The pincer attack at Kawanakajima was so important in SW1, in SW2, it was just a fight where a generic tried to do it, and if he failed, whatever. Honnoji, I don't know why, just felt superior in SW1. I miss Azuchi Castle, it was so big, and it usually had the indoors part, which while it made the battle very long, was still fun. Castle stages were good. While sometimes they got annoying, their removal took a lot away from the ninjas. They tried to remove the sometimes annoying length factor in SW2, but their castles just became a nuisance to me for removing part of the map from the minimap, as well as removing everything fun about castles from castles.

Missions were actually important in SW1, and they made you feel like a part of the battle. If you didn't succeed, events would happen differently, and you could proceed to a different stage in the split stories because of mission objectives.

SW1 had the character edit, which was a major plus. While there weren't a ton of options, it was better than nothing.

I also had a gripe with the change in movesets from SW1 to SW2. The charge ones were fine, it was the same setup as in SW1. The normal ones worked pretty well for newly created characters, but it really messed up some characters I felt. I did not like what happened to Mitsuhide at all, and Oichi was sort of hurt by this feature, but not terribly. They just have too many useless charge attacks in the early part of their moveset. The main problem, however, was special. Noh and Mitsunari had useless bombs. This didn't warrant gimped movesets. It wasn't aweful with Mitsunari because he was designed with it. However, the way they removed parts of Noh's moveset irked me a lot. I didn't see why they couldn't have left the entire thing in, and added an additional charge attack to charge characters. Ina was also hurt by this, and I'm sure there are others.

Ranmaru and Okuni had stories. Kunoichi was in it. Kid Masamune was there (I like his new moveset, but I miss his old one. And he was sooo short and fast).

SW2 is a lot more fun than SW1, even though I did enjoy playing SW1. I think I liked SW2 more because it was more colorful, there were more interesting characters, and the battles were more fun.
