Stars: The Old Republic has just been revealed by LucasArts. According to the developers, it's going to be the largest and most complex BioWare game ever to be released. It's an MMORPG where you can play as either the Empire or the Old Republic and takes place 600 years before the Clone Wars. I just hope that they release it on the 360 like they did with KOTOR I and II. (sorry, this is supposed to be on the MMORPG section) Edited by Shogun, Wed Oct 22, 2008 4:36 am.

*Moved* The game was announced a while back if I'm not mistaken or one of the developers just confirmed it then though it wasn't official. It seems promising and could be good, definitely a huge undertaking. Bioware have proven to make awesome games. Though if I'm being honest with myself I would have much preferred to hear news and confirmation of KOTOR III but still have my fingers crossed even if it is unlikely. But back to this, apparently writers have been working on the content of this game for years already which can only mean good things. Anyway I'm interested to see how this goes. |

I just saw this yesterday myself ... I was browsing the LucasArts site Here's the link to the game's site: http://www.swtor.com/ Apparently, this takes place 300 years after the events of KOTOR and about 3,500 years before the rise of Darth Vader Meh, I've never been much of a fan of MMORPG games, but this still looks cool. I'd love to be able to explore events that took place during that time though. |

Ugh, more Old Republic era stuff(well okay, the KOTOR games weren't bad...) How can you play as the Empire anyway when it's thousands of years before A New Hope? |

Awesome. I love Old Republic stuff, and this looks epic. Huge Jedi vs. Sith battles? Sign me up! True, I'd rather see a KotOR 3, but this should be interesting as well since it's basically part of the timeline that they haven't touched on yet.(Time between the Jedi Civil War and the New Sith Wars) It's the Sith Empire or the Old Republic you can play for, by the way, not the Galactic Empire. |

Ah, I see. Well, I guess if there's good non-Jedi stuff in it I could check it out(unless there's something interesting with Jedi this time.) If I can be a trader who bargains with Hutts and outruns Republic picket ships just because he's haulin' a little extra spice, count me in. |

The site did say that there were other traditional Star Wars roles to play besides Jedi or Sith, so I take it you don't have to be a force user if you don't want. Only thing that's depressing me now is that with the story, any chance of a KotOR 3 to play out what happened to Revan and the Exile in the Unknown Regions is gone now, considering the site basically tells you that they failed to stop this invasion. Oh, and digging around the website, I found this:
Predicts that we'll be seeing HK-47 and his meatbag blasting awesomeness in as well.

I really wanted to hear about KOTOR3, because I found KOTOR2 to be rather lackluster overall... oh well. This does sound rather exciting, and I'm sure it'll be a phenomenal game... but MMORPG's aren't my thing. I did try a Free 10 Day Trial of Galaxies and it's was fairly fun... but I'd never pay a fee to play a game. No matter how good it is!

I just hope that they don't jump the shark and do what Star Wars Galaxies did, make Jedi and Sith classes initially available. That's the problem with Star Wars, when it gets right down to it, the Jedi and Sith are involved too much, and rarely do people forget that there is such thing as a normal life in the Star Wars universe. There aren't too many games or books or comics that have absolutely no Jedi/ Sith involvement whatsoever. |
