Well this IS true. I value a costume someone made themselves more than anything that can be bought (see my totally off topic rant on the Who'se your dream cosplay thread). But in cases like THIS where the costume is so incredibly complicated and involved, I think it's amazing anyone made it at all. Especially if say...the look nothing like Zhao Yun and wanted it modeled by someone who did. There's a veeeery quiet community of costumers who love making costumes and are shy about the camera/or only wear ones that work with their body/type personality. I'd probably not think much of someone who dressed as say...on of the Xiao's and bought their costume, but for this--it's existence is amazing enough I don't care who made it. It's proof that it CAN in fact be DONE. Which is inspiring in it's own right. Though Laura from England still gets highest props from me for her Orochi which I'd argue is on the same level of difficulty as this, if not harder (Hideyoshi Toyotomi was no slouch job either).

I suspect it is not. Firstly metal would be way too heavy...and probably have a more dull shine overall unless it had been polished to begeezes and it wouldn't be so uniform. Secondly if you look in some of the 'curves' like on the best late or some of the plating on his arms you can see what looks like 'wrinkles' in the silver finish. This leads me to believe the silver finish is some type of laminate/foil/paper than can be attached and then smoothed out like aluminum tape.
