on the subject of the "best" element, i'll go with Lightening(as usual), i suppose it has alot to do with the characters i prefer(Noh, Ginchiyo, Yoshimoto, Katsuiie, Kanetsugu) who are all shorter range characters who benefit from the Lightening element. Fire and Ice are predictably reliable, but bland. Shura, as has been noted, is broken(in a bad way). suprisingly as much as i dislike the Wind element for Lady Noh, it works pretty well for some other characters.

on another note, how long does the Mercenary mode go on? i think i'm somewhere near level 35, and it's like a terminal version of dungeon grinding, the same thing over and over and over, and it's terribly easy, even on hard with a level 70 character and a really good weapon. i expect the answer is to start with a "green" character and build them up, but i'm not of any mind to reset anyone.

one more question, is three the maximum number of slots that you can earn on each weapon for one attribute? i've never managed more than that, i don't think.

Mercenary Mode is 99 and the 100th being a special mission when you've collected all precious swords only.

3 of the same stats for any weapon, so the best you can have is 3 times 20 attack, etc. Then making it +60 as the maximum.

thanks. i read the Mercenary mode thread after i posted and found that out for myself.

i guess i knew the "three attributes per weapon" thing, but i was wondering if it changed for XL.

as different, yet samey as DW6 is to past KOEI games, i think i'm going to stick my neck out and hope that they somehow integrate the two, BUT GET RID OF RENBU! after playing SW2:XL for for the last week every waking second, the old system is LOTS more fun.

Yes, I noticed how it was much more challenging. And I do know that it takes a bit to adapt to a system after playing with the Renbu. Though I did end up finding myself failing the mission, for not paying attention to the text, where the enemy can't spot you at Okehazama with Toshiie, so I had hyper generals all over me including Tadakatsu.

yes, i also noticed that where i had just been "zoning out" and hitting buttons on DW6, i was having to pay attention and remember what combonation of buttons did what. and as you said there seems to be alot more text pre-DW6, leading to a more satisfying game by way of paying closer attention to what's going on and more in-depth stories.

Yeah, it was probably just because I was remembering what did what and trying Toshiie for the first time. Even when I first attempted that level I soft resetted since the BGM volume was much higher than the voices, so I could in the end hear things better.

i just really enjoy the way that all the characters seem to have additional dialogue with important individuals in their lives. i think everyone from SW2 i've played as has had SOME new lines. it just makes DW6 look kind of bad. sort of shiny and fancy, but soulless. and i suppose it's just me, but the atmosphere of XL seems more similar to SW1 and XL, darker somehow. which is a god thing.

DW4 and SW1 were the darkest titles either series has ever been. But I wouldn't really call SW2 dark but perhaps only so to DW6's pretty colourful graphics. Though comparing DW6 to DW3, DW6 is quite dark itself.

I noticed that if you have all 10 swords and you don't choose Battle for Supremacy, Mercenary Mode is endless. I was able to go to floor 101 when I ignored the mission on floor 100.

I just notice you can have two self skill at once(one is of that character and one is buyable) in Japanese version when I reset character, wonder if this changed in English version ?

So you mean when you get rid of one and replace with another that the last skill is still in effect? Interesting, though I would probably say it was most likely fixed. I will try later if I can remember or if someone else does.

Yoshimoto got his self skill really quickly, I believe I was level 13 when I got it. And now I've found out its other use except for his level 3 musou tactic (which I haven't got yet). I almost feel like his desperation self skill is wasted on him.

*sigh* i try not to compare apples to oranges, but...to my mind, yes. SW2:XL remixed with SW2 is better than DW6. it's more familiar(i have been playing since DW1-the fighting game), as i have mentioned other places DW6 feels ALOT like DW2 with better graphics, there are a bunch of similarities. i WILL insert that the clones and lack of Musou modes are nearly my entire reason for making this statement. not only did SW2:XL give us 3 new, and 3 new-ish characters, EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER has a Musou mode(besides Ranmaru and Okuni, which is a CRIME) and there were little bits of dialogue added for every character. on top of that everyone got some new moves as well. as an experiment DW6 performed quite well, but as a full fledged game with high replay value, not-so-much. so SW2:XL remixed with SW2 wins head and shoulders above DW6. it makes me hope we don't get a horrible disappointment for SW3.

i have six swords now.

...And on top of that: new 5th weapons!

Its not having the 5th thats so exciting, it's obtaining them. Because also from the ones I've obtained so far most 4th's are better.

i gotta say i can now finish a expert mode due to my improved
5th weapon i put in a demon orb in it and changed some using life orbs
(musashi's 5th weapon) but the 4th weapon is still best in me cause in
5th weapons you need some orbs to improve its dumb stats >_< dumb elements..

this game is very good. i think it was well done. one thing is that puzzled me is that they should have brought this out first and then go ahead with Empires. if Empires had the real chosokabe in it it would have been better. along with the real toshii maeda.

now, xl i did enjoy mersonary mode very much. you can gain lots of things and money the longer you play it.

as far as fmv scenes, they were very strong and dramatic. i especially enjoyed the scene where hideyoshi talks to toshii maeda. i can't go into detail because some of you may not have seen it.

also, i really enjoy leveling the body guards up some more since they raised the levels for them as well as the charecters..

Getting (trying to get) Yoshimoto's 5th weapon as soon as possible. I managed to obtain his 4th and it was very easy, but without looking at his 5th requirements did a under 5 minutes and a 4 minutes I believe, still nothing.

Its funny though because my level 30-something Yoshimoto couldn't kill the two officers as quick as my level 1 Hanzo on hard mode. I tried it and beat his time lol.

Currently playing Kenshin's story though.

Did you get Nobunaga appear for the 2nd time? Do that within 11 minutes and the valuable item appears.

Just wait till you get Awakening 2 and Level 3 Musou for him, then you'll have the fastest officer killer Musou attack in game.

I can't get Oichi's 5th weapon -_-" So sad... The game just freezes when the movie on 'Siege of Odani Castle' appears... (I guess it will be the same with Nagamasa's 4th weapon) The same thing happens with Kojiro after his first story... Arghhh... It's killing me... I was so close obtaining eveyone's 4th and 5th weapons and suddenly I can't!!!

This is my first post guys n_n...

@LoW: It doesn't matter since I never knew how to get it, I just checked the FAQ last night and found out what you just said. The aquisition in the game states ''make the Demon King appear.''
I assumed that was just the once needed.

@w31l1: This is the case with the Indonesian copies, and perhaps others? From what I've heard the original was a DVD9 disc while XL is a DVD5 meaning it either freezes or skips the scenes.

I've unfortunately fallen victim to that too.

To be precise, it skips all the cutscenes except for the opening and credits, and it freezes when Kojiro's 2nd cutscene starts.

Unfortunately, DVD9 copies of the game haven't been found anywhere yet.

But lets not go into that sensitive subject...

Speaking of data books, I was unaware that Koei made Xtreme Legends art books. Has Koei produced XL art books for other DW/SW games and even Empires versions?

This is seriously a first for me...

That artbook is more than 300 pages with all Samurai Warriors 2+XL+Empires+Katana details in it. So basically I believe you'll see the 5th weapon from the original SW2 characters with their 2P alternate costume (I believe) but it's too much jobs to scan them all so I just asked Dio to scan for the SW2XL part - of course this book is very very rare.

There are many books, like I have a guidebook specially designed for SW2 Empires. So basically it's not just SW2 artbook then SW2 databook. It has like 5 or 6 for your total collection. The artbook and the databook are the most popular ones and others they're just rare. I'm glad superDioplus got that and made it to KW exclusive.
