First things first, some general tips.

  • You can only deal a considerable amount of damage if the attack chance (signified by the green markers) is on. Otherwise you'll only deal a sliver of damage.
  • Smash attack is your best friend here, but the fully charged one of course. Even on normal condition the attack can make the MA flinch. If you use smash attack while the attack chance is on, the MA can be downed. The usual strategy is to keep circling the MA while charging the smash attack and waiting for an opening to show up.
  • For lower class MS that do not have smash attacks, SP attacks are the alternative for downing a MA. Wait until there is an opening, then unleash the SP attack to knock down the giant. Other than the fact that lower class MS only use 1 SP bar per attack, you can also freely dash around to avoid the MA attacks unlike class 1 MS which are prone to getting their smash attacks disrupted when the MA 'roars'.
  • In ground battles, when a MA is falling down, jump or dash away from it. When it falls it will also knock nearby MS away with a decent damage so you don't want to get hit by that. This case rarely happens in space battles unless you are behind the MA and got hit by the falling head.
  • Of course, equipping skills like Small Giant and Instant Hero (if using grunt MS) might help big time.
  • When the MA's HP goes down to about 1/3, its attacks will be greatly strengthened. You and your allies will be in a world of hurt if hit at this state.
  • If you defeat a MA without destroying any of its parts, you can get an additional part for the MS you're currently piloting. It is reported that smash attacks will never break a part.

And now on to tips for each MAs. (Detailed version at a later time)

MA-08 Big Zam
Appearance: Mobile Suit Gundam
Pilot: Dozle Zabi

Basically an easy fight, but watch your steps. It is quite easy to avoid its attacks, but if you make a mistake and get hit, you can expect your full HP bar to drop down to yellow or even red. Its kick and headbutt attacks should be quite easy to avoid if you keep circling it, and for the mega particle cannon, staying underneath it is one of the safe spots most of the time.

On ground however, fighting this MA would be rated at a different difficulty. Its walking will also cause quakes that will obviously knock any nearby MS away, so it would be hard to do the circling strategy.

MRX-009 Psyco Gundam
Appearance: Mobile Suit Z Gundam
Pilot: Four Murasame

Also an easy battle with a lot of openings. Just make sure you are not in front of it when it makes most of its attacks. If its attacks miss an attack chance will appear so utilize it well. But when it goes to low HP expect it to go mad and have new attacks like the angry stomps which do hurt.

Also, if you hear a pinging sound and you don't have a charged smash attack ready to be unleashed yet, dash as far away as you can because it will unleash its ultimate attack, an explosion that covers a wide range and deals a hell lot of damage.

MRX-010 Psyco Gundam Mk-II
Appearance: Mobile Suit Z Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ
Pilot: Rosamia Badam, Ple-Two

The Mk-II is basically the same as its predecessor but with new attacks. It has a beam sword which has a wide range. It also can create an electric sphere in front of it and any MS inside it will automatically get powered down, unless you equip the skill Guts which prevents that.

NZ-000 Quin Mantha
Appearance: Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ
Pilot: Ple-Two, Glemy Toto

It is quite difficult to avoid its attacks which have wide range but if you can hit it, then you're in for a big time. Especially when it uses the funnels, the attack chance is available but it's very hard to get close to it so it'll be difficult to use smash attack here and it would be better to use SP attack instead.

NZ-333 Alpha Aziel
Appearance: Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack
Pilot: Quess Paraya

You only fight this MA in space, but it's one of the MAs that are rated at high difficulty. Its attacks are wide ranged so it will be difficult to maintain smash attack here.

Also, this is important when fighting this MA. If it deploys its funnels, aim for them first. They are a real annoyance that their shots will almost always knock you down.

When it goes to low HP it may unleash its ultimate attack which is enshrouding in an aura then rushes towards you at high speed. This may be very difficult to avoid that the best bet is to launch a lengthened SP attack and hope you can down it to end it all.

JDG-00X Devil Gundam (Dark Gundam in overseas version)
Appearance: Mobile Fighter G Gundam
Pilot: Kyouji Kasshu

As the only MA appearing from an AU series in this game, it has its own quirks. You only fight it on ground, and it won't move, but it has the snake-like Gundam Heads helping it. And in order to immobilize it, you'll have to take down one of these heads; which need to be defeated in MA style as well with the attack chances.

Attempting to approach the Devil Gundam while it's still active will almost always mean certain death, especially if it's at low health and has many heads surrounding it. And no, even a Lv3 SP attack won't do. I've tried that once and got immediately pwned afterwards.... orz

Some final tidbits

  • On some occasions the MA may appear as allies. But remember that MA attacks damage fellow enemy MS as well, which means the reverse is also true: Ally MA attacks can and Will also damage you, so be careful of that.
  • You can turn off the auto-lockon camera by pressing the R3 button (PS), in case there is an enemy ace in the field who constantly disturbs you and you need to get rid of them first, or... you just don't like the auto-lockon thingy. :p
So if you have any other strategies to share, feel free to post here. :)

It is possible to hit the Alpha Aziel when it unleashes its ultimate attack with a fully-charged smash attack, just face the MA and release the button as it charges towards you (about 1-2 secs before it would hit you). Doing so will interrupt its attack, and knock it down at the same time (attack chance lasts for the entire duration of its ultimate attack), leaving it open to take the full brunt of your SP attack.

Thanks for the tip. I found doing this trick really easy if the smash attack just thrusts forward like the RX-78 Gundam, though for other smash attacks precise timing is needed indeed. ^.^;;

Anyway, I just added a couple of tips & tidbits I forgot to include before.

I found out that some attacks and SP's can kill MA's really fast
examples:
Palace Athene's C2
It can take out 1/3 of MA's life
The O + Quebeley double SP=Death to Devil Gundam
Seriously,I killed a Devil Gundam with that attack and it even dies before my SP was finished
The O aerial SP
The O C4 the spread shot (almost the same like pallace athene)

hullo!,will this section be updated? maybe a list of destructible MA parts and the effect to the MA's perfromance?

IIRC if you destroy the "abdomen" of devil gundam he won't use that paralizing purple fart anymore...........not that he needs it....

Yeah, those updates are planned, but with my current IRL activity I doubt I can finish it before February... orz

Though I noticed something that if you destroy a leg part of Psyco Gundam while it still has a lot of HP its walking would be disrupted, but once you get it to red HP it 'forgets about its 'wound'' and go Trans-Am like but without going red. wwwwwww :XD

Trans-Am LOL,aside from not being red it doesn't have afterimages too!,but that's maybe just because i played the PS2 version, where even the wonderful afterimages of F91 doesn't appear

^IMO that's the evil psychoframe kicking in its effects,or maybe DG cells?since GM2 is a mishmash game>.<

every mobile armor goes to Trans-Am mode when 1/4 HP is lost, after 1/2 HP is lost they start to use SP attacks........which is pretty stupid if you always have a smash attack ready since you can just cancel them with it(aside from devil gundam of course, that's just suicide...)

EDIT:just unlocked&played the "king of hearts" challenge today, and i found an interesting stuff!if you have hard strike attached, there is a high chance that your smash attack will kill "gundam head" in 1 hit a la flash/vorpal

this made fighting the devil gundam a cinch even in a 7 star, hard difficulty mission!now i have my god gundam all gold and shiny in its nametag>.<

tips for class 2 MS:always have smash hit attached to the MS,it will help bring down MAs faster since it works like a smash attack, letting you damage them at any point......

just attach hard strike to your MA and smash attack the gundam worm/head,more often than not it will die in one hit, letting you attack devil gundam without problem, this works with all main character MS

i've messed around a bit and realized that the "roars" of the MA are the marking of their "pattern change",notice that after they roar the first time, the trans-am aura appeared?

EDIT:can the psyco MKII use funnels in the game?

Who said the Sazabi sucks? I can take an MA's HP from full to almost zero in just one SP attack when it's laying down on the ground. Big Zam especially, I fought that twice in one mission and it never stood a chance.

Also, I've beaten every single MA apart from the Dark Gundam, which has beaten me twice. Those snake heads are too difficult :(
Please help my Pokémon grow!

first of all MA's is not a problem anymore for class 1 once you know their pattern(smash attack them to death),plus every class 1 MS can take down MA's easily, the way you beat MA with sazabi can also be done with jagd dogas.....which make sazabi even less attractive

the problem is sazabi doesnt have anything that really sticks out for it in "serious" play(like extra missions,TGW,and hard diff missions),but as richie said the US version has the diff totally dumbed down so i'm not surprised people start to praise and worship sazabi&destiny gundam left and right............

as for devil gundam, doesnt anyone pay attention to the vs MA guide?(or BK's gamefaqs FAQ)(i do think you have hanged around long enough to check the infos even before you have the game....),its by far the easiest once you have ONE attachment:hard strike

whoops, what i've posted about DG is already said by me just one post above you.....

sazabi can kill ma fast because we know that downed MAs are prone to multiple shot attack, such as Sazabi's sp,C6,pallace athene's C2,Quebeley's C5,6,The O's air sp and double sp.
For sazabi,I don't use sp to kill MA,instead I use C6,while it has long start up time,it can possibly OHKO. for faster way,use C3.
I think beating ma with multiple shot is faster than melee..

After beating Kamille's Official story, I fought against the Psyco Gundam and Psyco Gundam MK-II using only the Gouf, Gouf Flight Type, Zeong, and the GM. I learned that the Zeong is great against MA's in space, and the Gouf Flight Type was good against MA's on land. Their SP Attacks are perfect after the MA launches an attack where an attack chance appears.
The chaos has just begun!

Some things I'd like to add

A mobile armor will cause the screen to pulse red for a second once it gets to certain levels of Health(usually only does this twice). This will cause the mobile armor to become faster and stronger, and occasionally use different attacks. Watch out for this.

To knock down a Mobile Armor, simply unleash a full charge attack on it when it's showing weak point indicators. This should cause it to fall. An opening typically occurs right after they do an attack.
