@TrasH- oh I didn't know the slim PS2 wasn't compatible with the PS1 memory card. We have two PS2's the original bulky one and the slim one...but I usually play my PS1 games on the bulky one because the PS1 memory card is compatible with it...
Yeah FFX was the first FF game I played also...but it wasn't too hard difficult cause I had the strategy guide...I have strategy guides for all my FF games and spin offs because I actually collect them. VIII is my all time fave though.
yeah I don't blame you my family is rather difficult too and I don't want to buy gift cards because I feel they are too impersonal. *sigh*
Not sure if it's all card types, but the one I have isn't >_< Using it with my brothers old PS2 works fine too, really irritating at times I do love VIII still, but it's quite far down the list nowadays I think, I just love the FF series so much, so it's a hard competition XD The magic system in it was just... I have to say awful, was such a drag to deal with it. All I know for sure though is my top 3 which is VI, IV and IX. And I remember my brother borrowed the strategy guide for VII when he borrowed that game but.... it's hard to use it when that too is in English XD Remember my first time playing FF VII, jumped off the train and was supposed to make my way to the reactor core, but I didn't understand a word of what they said, and I could not find the entrance, I just ran around there with no clue of what to do, going "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?" XD I never did get past that point as a kid... oh the joy of foreign languages Half my family didn't even want me to buy them anything, they told me not to. My thoughts when I heard that? "Screw that, it's Christmas, I'm buying you something anyway" XD Wow if my family told me not to buy them anything I would happily oblige! After all I am a broke poor college student lol.
OMG I loved the magic system in FFVIII! Its nice just stealing magic from the bosses when you don't want to waste your own and magic to raise your characters stats was brilliant! You didn't even have to raise your character levels..that took away hours of pointless running around and getting into battles! I really think that was one of the main reasons I liked that game. Fastest FF game I ever finished and the story was pretty nice too.

Main issue for me was that Magic and Draw were two seperate actions, also lack of MP, I like the MP system. But yeah, need to draw magic to get magic, need magic to use magic, but you cannot live without having Item on every character. Gotten quite far into that one too, but spend most of the game frustrated about that whenever magic comes into play, so tend to just spam summons I'm probably bias, but I loved the layout in VI, equip espers to learn magic, and the fact that EVERYONE can learn every spell. I prepared for the final battle in that one, spend like a day or two doing that, and.... I was overpowered XD When everyone is at level 60 and know Ultima, things are quite easy

I was using items and and dying and always getting close to game overs and it was actually really fun. and once I beat the loser in about 45 minutes I really felt like I accomplished something lol
@NigelCollins- No you're not bothering me at all. I know how you feel. college is rough...I actually got my first B ever...and I feel pretty bummed.

Well, I had been into the dungeon to get a relic once before, right at the start of the World of Ruin, pretty much at least, and I got my ass kicked so bad, so I just made an assumption when I was training for the final dungeon, so I thought that 60 would be a good level XD And when Kefka went down I was expeting him to come back, even more powerful... but he didn't, and then came the credits, so it was quite humorous XD

@TrasH-Humorous indeed. Beating the game without even knowing it. But I bet you were happy at the surprise.
I would be.
Also you were talking about good RPGs and I probably recommend this RPG to everyone who asks but I highly recommend you playing Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts Covenant for the PS2. Seriously two of the best RPG games I have ever played. Very underrated though because Shadow Hearts came out when FFX came out and FFX was more popular; SH Covenant is the sequel. AMAZING GAMES especially Covenant. *sigh* I have a RPG game crush lol
@NigelCollins- Well not smart but really hardworking. I make sacrifices that pay off.
@Sakura- ehhhhh FFXIII.......

Humorous indeed. *sigh* I have a RPG game crush lol It was really the most anticlimactic boss fight I have ever experienced XD When playing it when I was younger, there was a save at Kefka, so I had tried him on that and he was so hard, so I did remember that. It's the final boss, the whole tower was extremely hard first time I went into it. I go in, I fight through the other bosses to get to Kefka, reach him, see him fade away, getting myself ready and pumped up for another go, I am so ready to beat the game... and nothing comes up XD Which resulted in me laughing SO hard. Once it settled in I did have a great feeling of achievement though, so many hard and close boss fights, so many hours put into the game, and then the final boss, first try, not even an issue XD
Actually don't think I have heard of those, should check them out. Need to get more RPG's for my PS2, haven't even gotten Wild Arms yet >_< SNES and PS1 I have a lot of RPG's for though. Lufia and Shining Force are two of my personal favorites I feel are underrated, and Suikoden. As for games that never became series, Bahamut Lagoon is the most impressive RPG I've come across in a long time. Tactical RPG mixed with old school turn based RPG. Unique, challenging, interesting characters, awesome use of the environment, like being able to freeze water (and melt ice), setting fire to forests, anything to try and gain an advantage, and it was for the SNES, back when they were Squaresoft.

How are VV and TrasHy? I'm doing quite well, thank you. How about you?
Also, Nu Wa needs to experience the wonderful thing that is old school FF (especially the REALLY old school games), there's where you'll find the largest gems
*hugs Swan*
