Yeah, Lauda was Austrian as well XD Probably the most successful one Also an Austrian who's still racing, but never quite been able to get the results in, Christian Klien, have been racing in F1 several times. Unsure where he is now, think he does endurance racing.Well, they can drive as long as they want XD Schumacher was in his 40's when he retired, but if you look at F1, which is the goal for the drivers who race in Formula 3, GP2, GP2 and all the other series like that, then the drivers that the teams hire are either drivers with experience, either who have been dropped by other teams, or have just been away for one or two years, or they are young drivers with potential, and pretty much every young driver who actually gets to race, are in their early 20's, some are even younger. Kvyat made his debut this year,a nd he's 19. So once you hit 25-26, it will start to get harder to make it into F1. |

Did watch the movie about Lauda and Hunt fairly recently, was really interesting, didn't know much about either of them before that Lauda is just incredible, not only surviving that accident, but also returning to racing, and that soon after his accident, and then he lost by 1 point >_<Things might change the coming years, but as it's going right now, it's going the other way, teams are bringing in younger and younger drivers, it's just so competitive, and so hard to make take that final step. The hart part about it though is that the people who do make it, they usually make quite a name for themselves, so if their team drop them, they will likely be picked up by another team, so once you do make it, you stay around for quite some time, so not that many new drivers brought in each year. |

Yeah, I think the movie was quite good as well, was very enjoyable It's called Rush https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzNbGH1oZJc And I am very familiar with that XD See him a lot at F1 races, he is involved with the Mercedes team in some way. Pretty sure he always hears the cap to hide all of his scars, has quite a lot of them after the accident, since the helmet came off at the impact.Another rivalry I wish they'd make a movie out off is Prost and Senna, they did not get along at all, and were teammates for awhile. Prost had the mentality of "I am the first driver, I should be ahead" while Senna's was "If I am faster, I am passing you" which often lead to them crashing, because Prost did do stupid moves to block Senna mid overtake. Seen documentaries about it, and Prost often talked bad about Senna, saying he was reckless, when Prost usually was the one responsible, just because he didn't want to get passed. Senna's accident was also horrible, have seen footage of it, and the sound of the impact..... not heard anything like it. That whole weekend was a disaster though, first Barrichelo crashed during Friday practice, and got badly injured, then an Austrian died during qualifying in the same corner as Senna, who died in the race. He was even going to tribute the Austrian driver after the race >_< |

It is quite an interesting movie And I think it's enjoyable even if you're not into racing XD (maybe even a good way to spark some interest among certain people )Yeah, he died in 1994, at San Marino, there were some problems with the track layout that they didn't change until after that year. He died instantly as well, steering column broke when his car hit the wall, and struck his head which is what killed him. It was very unfortunate, but if you're going to see something good in it, his death was not for nothing. At the end of his career, he did work for improved driver safety, and try to make the organizers change some regulations, because back in the day, F1 did sacrifice safety just to make it more exciting, to draw a bigger crowd. Like if you look back at the 70's, with Lauda and Hunt and all the others, F1 was getting really big back then, and it was exciting, because every race the drivers went out there, in cars that were just so fast, and every time they went out there, they were risking their lives. Think there was someone who said something like, every race you were on the edge to death. But yeah, Senna campaigned to improve the safety, and when he died, a lot of others continued his work, and they made a huge impact right away, and there haven't been a single fatal accident in the F1 since then. Been fatal accidents in F1 cars, but not in F1 competition. (unfortunately, track safety is a lesson that the Americans are yet to learn) I think their relationship did improve a bit during the last year, maybe years. Prost switched teams, and I think things did start to improve eventually after that. Prost does speak quite highly of Senna as well, after the accident, and I am quite sure that he did attend to his funeral. |
