WARNING: If you really, really have a LOT of time, tools and funds; with your pick of several different neurotic disorders (such as the desire to actually make this both combat and museum-worthy AND get a PhD in Japanese history); THEN feel free to follow the instructions to the letter; otherwise for cosplay purposes you'd be better off just picking a few parts to examine closer and then simplify with softer materials. http://www.sengokudaimyo.com/katchu/katchu.html An Online Japanese Armor Manual. An interesting fact is that Date Masamune and his army from Sendai used a special pattern of armor unique to them...I think it looks quite a bit like his SW2 torso armor and it's worth trying out. Edit: I am also a masochist who actually dreams of making this for use in the SCA. Thus, the headache. Edited by Greenzaku, Jan 12 2009, 01:32 PM.

Wow, that definitely looks like a thorough resource, Zaku, thanks for providing it. I'd love to see you tackle this one day, best of luck if you ever attempt it.

I intend to take a better look at that website when I have some more time, I just checked a couple of sections but it looks interesting. I join Manji in wishing you good luck if you try it, Greenzaku. It would be great to have such a realistically-made and accurate armour. |
