I have been wanting to know how long have you been a fan of these KOEI games. When did you first discovered a KOEI game? and are you still a fan of the series? or do you have no interest in these games at all yet you continue to be apart of a KOEI community? or did you start lose interest in these games after a certain period of time and moved on to something else?

For me, I came across my first KOEI game back in 2005 when I bought Dynasty Warriors 2. I been a fan of these games for about 4 years now but lately I have started to become less interest in these games which includes playing them, reading new information and releases of games, and even talking about on forums now. The only thing I have interest in that is even remotely related to these games is Red Cliff but that is about it.

A brother of a friend of mine got one of the first English Playstations 2s, and somehow he got Dynasty Warriors 2 with it. I played it at my friend's house and was distinctly better at the game than the other two, and I've loved the series since then. Kind of amazing that I've been into these games for at least 8 years.

I'm anticipating Gundam Musou 2 the most (the majority of my posts since joining are in that forum) as I feel the 'franchise' of DW games has gone in a better direction with this particular series now, although I will mark out like a school kid when DW7 is announced and more info comes out for SW3.
Please help my Pokémon grow!

Well, I first tried DW3XL over a relative's house and really liked it. But back then I had no PS2 and DW4 was just released, a week later I got my PS2 with DW4 and DW3. After completing them, I followed the series and got all the games in it (including expansions) save for first DW.

When SW was first announced, I saw the news at the official site and doubted I'd get it, but boredom made me get it and really enjoyed the game which made me get the whole series.

Then I started getting every game that got the KOEI logo, including ROTK& Kessen& DT that my cousin introduced me to, Crimson Sea and Colosseum: Road To Freedom which I saw at the official site, and lastly, Nobunaga Ambition and WO which I knew from my time here.

I have to say, I'm addicted to all the pre-DW5 games in the DW series, and all the other games I've got. I still play them from time to time and really like them. DW5 and DW6 are easily the worse KOEI games I ran into, which slowly made my likings go lower but I'll surely aim for the next titles like DW7 and SW3 if the later was ported to a console I have.

same as this, but swap out DW6 for DW5. DW6 made dw fun again for me. DW5E was fun tho. SW series has consistantly been fun.

DW6 is actually fun when your levelling characters up and trying to gte gpood weapons but when your playing a strong character over and over again it gets tedious and I havent got the motivation to get all characters up to level 50 my goal is to get most of Wu up to 50 anyway

I guess I got started back in 2005-2006 when a friend introduced me to DW4. From there, I got into the Samurai Warriors series because that same friend brought the original SW over once.

Then it wasn't until SW2 came out and I finally bought it that things really took off  I guess you could say that I'm still a fan of the series. I'm not THAT hyped over SW3 (even though I own a Wii). Lately, DW:Strikeforce has got my interest though, seeing as how I'm [finally] in the market for a PSP

I've been more of an SW fan than a DW fan (lately, more WO fan than either, TBH) but I still support both series by posting around the sections occasionally

Like I mentioned though in my post here in this topic, as KOEI focuses more on current-gen, I will become obsolete at my age since making the HD switch to get the full benefit of HD games requires more of a sacrifice :/

That is the same problem with me in general with games. I am at an age where I only play games for no longer than 30 minutes per day or less. I have lost interest in even wanting to buy Strikeforce now. I don't know why but I just don't want it now. I guess my age is catching up to me on some levels with games not being a big thing for me these days.

I first heard of Koei or became a fan back in 2000, when DW2 came out. My brother bought it, im not sure what drew him to buy it right when it came out, probably one of the best ps2 games at the time, and the hack n slash of hundreds of people at once was kind of a new concept. My brother let me try, and I instantly became addicted, while my brother strayed away and didnt care for it so much. One day I played 3 story modes straight in a row without stopping and for DW2, that takes quite a long time. To this day I have never played any game for that long in one sitting since then.

I dont think it was untill DW5 when I started to become interested in the history, and led me to try and find the novel in which ive read three times now. Even before looking into any of the history or novel, i still knew who I wanted to be adds in the up coming games, through who I saw most as generics in the previous games. And they basically matched up to who really was important as I knew more about the Three Kingdoms.

about one more year, and I will be a fan for a decade ;)

I have been a Koei fan for about 4 years! I first played DW3 at a friend's house then I borrowed DW4E from the same person and became a fan since then. I don't think it was the gameplay that interested me but it was Guan Yu and his famous Dragon crescent blade Koei gave him that hooked me to this series. (no surprise I'm a Shu fan but not because of Zhao Yun though) :P

My interest in Koei games became greater when I picked up a cheap pre-owned Kessen III! It's actually a one-way ticket to Samurai Warriors universe for me! And guess what, I love Samurai Warriors 2 as well!

However, recently I became less interested in DW series because Koei messed up DW character designs and the shallow Renbu system! Also the fact that Koei milked too much out of the series with little improvement! <_<

My first game would be around probably 2003, and that been Kessen II. And I'm most definitely still a fan of the Kessen series, sadly though it appears as though it's forgotten and now replaced by Bladestorm. :/

Other then Kessen, I was quite interested in DW5 & SW2 as well as it's Empires extensions, but since then I've not been anywhere near as interested in a KOEI game. Warriors Orochi...meh, DW6...meh, countless PSP port etc, the quality is going out the window for quantity, I don't like what KOEI are doing lately at all. For a while there games provided a nice breakup to my beloved RPGs. Although now my RPG interest has completely taken over again and I don't care much at all about what KOEI games are about.

I still hang around KW though because I generally like the community and it's members here.

You guys are making me feel far older than I am.

I was a fan of Koei games in the old days when SNES emulators were first created (The 90's!) and roms were slowly making their way onto the internet. Somehow, I ended up playing one of Koei's oldest iterations of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, RTKIII: Dragon of Destiny. While it was also probably the simplest RTK game, I played the hell[ out of it.

Then, when the PS1 first came out and they included the first Playstation Underground demo disc, my brother and I got a taste of the first Dynasty Warriors, which was a 3D fighting game that was Koei's attempt (they weren't the only ones) at capitalizing on Tekken and Soul Calibur's success. I remember thinking how incredible the intro was, and how fantastic the gameplay seemed to me.

Let's shoot forward a bit, to some months after the release of the PS2. After intermittent rentals of Dynasty Warriors 2, we purchased DW3 on the street date. We played it to the point that our first PS2 was broke down. To this day, I still believe it to be one of the best of the Warriors series to date.

Though I've found DW5 onwards to be disappointing, I continue to find the SW and DW:G series quite enjoyable and look forward to further works from Omega Force and Koei.

Edit: Oh man, how could I forget about Kessen II? The ridiculous liberties that Koei took with the Three Kingdoms history in that game, combined with the hilariously cheesy (but actually still quite fun... "Hey, Yue Ying. Can you quit with the hey?") cutscenes/dialogue and the easy-to-grasp, compelling strategy element left me proclaiming its makers to be geniuses.

Yea, I can sympathize. Family duties keep my solo gaming time regulated quite a bit. I even had to move my PS2 so that I could continue playing it :/

Portable gaming makes more sense for me since I'm always on the go anyway. That's why I'm hoping to pick up a PSP soon

Even with that though, I refuse to pick up WO or WO2 (if it releases in US) on PSP because I don't really care to go through the same things I went through on the PS2 versions. I just don't have that kind of time. Strikeforce will be enough KOEI on PSP for me.

My first experience with KOEI was with the old RotK and Nobunaga's Ambition games on the NES. Loved them then, still love them now. KOEI really has changed since then, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. But, even as things advance for them, I'd love them to go back and revisit their old game series that I used to play and love.

I've been a fan since DW2, which really was a somewhat random purchase. Ever since I have bought all the DW and SW games (except SWK), though it took me a year or so after SW's release to start with that series. I don't really know why I never went straight into it despite hearing of it. I guess for some reason I never knew about the combat being the same, as I regret not buying it earlier. I did not have Internet access either, I just read from magazines and kept my eyes open.

Moving on, along the way tried the Dynasty Tactics and Kessen series, would've liked to of played the others but games got inbetween, and with me favoring the Warriors titles and all. Then did the same and was sold a copy of Bladestorm and most currently Dynasty Warriors: Gundam which I collected at the London expodition, thanks to BlackKite and other Gundam fans talking about it.

That's about the main gist of history of my experience to date.

My dad got SW1 for the PS2 from a flea market in either 2004 or 2005 (wonder how anybody can give that up). He always played as Yukimura Sanada.

Character selection was a bit like playing Conquerors. Dad got the first picks, my stepbrother got (to him) the coolest picks, and I got the most picks (seeing as most of them were considered unworthy by the other two). Then I got my own memory card, and I conquered it all!!! :sly:

To be continued...

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Immediately.

Later, Dad got Dynasty Warriors 4 (and I liked it less because there were no missions, no somersaults, and the inability to make your steeds leap). I also have Dynasty Warriors: Advance for the GBA-SP.

I am awaiting the US sales of Samurai Warriors 3 for the Wii. Then, my story will get more in depth. I might get Warriors Orochi for the PS2 the next time Christmas/birthday comes around (my birthday is Jan. 4, three days after X-mas).

i think i started around 6-8 years a go, im too lazy to count,

i started woth dw4, i loved it so much i got dw3 for like 5$ (DEAL!) used, played that one for a long time, i found out my freind had dw2, and i borrowed that and i finished it(didn't play to extreme, i just did each story once), then i got sw1 and dw5:e on the same day, both used and very cheap. didn't get into Empires very much, i think it was too much for me too tske in at once and i sold it after a month. i absolutely loved sw1, probley my favourite warriors game, but i cant make up my mind over sw2.

a while later came wo, i liked the new freshness of it but the story was terrible just awfull, but i did like it, it was refreshing, a lnoger time after that i got wo2, i liked it too much in the beginning and then after completing all dream stages i suddenly could not stand it anymore aven wo1 became one of my most hated games, i just found that every part of the game had a huge flaw.

oh crap i forgot i got dw6 before wo2, yep i liked it in the beggining, but soon i hated it, after wo2 i wen't back to it iand i found out how great it was, i just fell in love with it and i kick myself for my past beatings against the renbu cuz i really don't hate it that much, it just needs work...(note: this just happened recently at the begginging of march or so)

I think that was 2002 when I was 10 years old (7 years ago), I went to my cousin's house to play Gran Turismo 4, then he gave me Shin Sangokumusou 2 and say "Play it, it's better than GT4!"
I dunno what was that at all, with many questions, I chose Lu Bu of course just by looking at his stats!! But I didn't know how to control him and got killed :P
For a few years, I lost contact with him and didn't touch the series again because I couldn't remember the title. However ARENA and HALL OF WARRIORS Ver. 2 have left a deep impression on me so I managed to search for soundtracks and found the title. That is why I really love KOEI music.

My order of playing:
SSM2 -> SSM PSP (That means SSM3 on PSP! Also given by my cousin) -> SSM3 Hyper -> SSM4 Special -> SSM 2nd Evolution (PSP) -> Musou Orochi -> SM2 -> SM1 -> SM2 Moushouden -> SSM5 -> Musou Orochi Maou Sairin -> Sengoku Musou Katana
I have SSM1, SSM2 Moushouden and SM2 Empires but I never play them :P Only for watching cutscenes!

And at last came SSM5...I remembered that. One year ago I was so anticipating the game that I dreamt of it. I hoped KOEI have changed the game style!! But at last everyone knew what happened, and I felt like falling into a pit! I finally understood the Chinese saying
"期望越大 失望越大" (The more expectation, the more disappointment). I never touch it again.

I still play Musou games (seldom) since then, but never expect much. Bought them mainly for ripping cutscenes and music.

What's next? I dunno. Hope Koei-Tecmo can do a better job and bring us more action games.
