By personality, voice, sex, appearance or usefulness? Or perhaps all? I'm more of a person who looks for the background, personality and especially a person's voice actor and acting. I don't really just look for a beast like Lu Bu and settle for that. And to be honest a character's appearance isn't everything to me either. It doesn't have much effect on my choices most of the time. Plus I also tend to target the good guys and the heroic of any series, it seems. Example of my top 5 DW's: Zhao Yun (appearance, background, moves & personality) Zhuge Liang (appearance, moves(DW6), personality) Liu Bei (background & voice) Sun Quan (voice & background) Zhang Liao (appearance, voice, moves(DW6), background & personality) How about you guys? Mine were pretty much based off different things for the most part so here is my little list of favorites. Dynasty Warriors Sun Quan (appearance, voice, weapon, personality, background, and pretty much everything from head to toe, back to front, side to side, as well as in between) <333 Sun Ce (appearance, voice, personality, tonfa moveset, and background) DW6 Sun Jian (appearance, voice, and moveset) DW5 Liu Bei (moustache, voice, and personality) DW5 SSX (voice, personality, and background) Zhang He (Personality, voice, and sense of style) Dong Zhuo (voice, Awakening form, and being a comic relief) Zhuge Liang (voice, musou attacks, and personality) Samurai Warriors Motochika (appearance, voice, weapon, and personality) Magoichi (appearance, personality, background, and voice) Sakon Shima (SW2 voice, personality, and moveset) |

i'm generally fond of the misfits and eccentrics, the ones that are not favored by lots of other folks(Noh, Kunoichi, Ranmaru, Goemon, Zhang He, Xu Zhu, Zhu Rong, Meng Huo, Shingen, Wei Yan, Yoshimoto, the Qiao's, Okuni), but if a character is just very cool~looks, personality, style(Zhen Ji, Xu Huang, Cao Ren, Katsuiie, Ina, Zhou Tai, Huang Zhong) then, i use them as well. also, if i end up using a character for awhile, initially not much caring for them, and something in their play interests me then they get "in" too(Xiahou Yuan, Lu Meng, Huang Gai, Yue Ying, Mitsunari, Kanetsugu, Gracia, Kojiiro). i only use the ultra popular characters when it's necessary(Zhao Yun, Lu Bu, Keiji, Zhou Yu(except he's brilliant in DW6), Guan Yu), there are a few popular characters i DO enjoy such as Mitsuhede, Cao Cao, Sun Quan, Sun Jian, Zhang Fei, Sima Yi(DW6), Honda). but i find myself always going back to the less popular characters. |

Well, I've always tended to like less orthodox characters when it comes to videogames. I mean, it's ALWAYS appearance that tends to draw me in first. I love characters that dress differently and appear unconventional. But if there's little substance, then I tend to lose interest. I always favor characters with both eccentric personalities and move sets. My KOEI favorites as follows: -DW3: Zhang He- was a Zhao Yun user for quite some time, but when I saw the "A Down hill charge like falling blossoms!" scene from Jie Ting, I KNEW I had to give Zhang He a try... the claws and campy behavior were instant win for me...and since then, he has had a special place in my heart. -DW4: Sima Yi: Gave him a go on my attempt to unlock Zhang He, and I couldn't believe how I had overlooked him in 3. The over-done evil genius personality, mad laughter, and purple laser beams were enough to win me over for good. -SW: Hashiba Hideyoshi (HASHIBA 'cause I live alliteration, dammit)- "Who build the castle in just one day? It's Hideyoshi who we praise" Most would find such a display an utter annoyance and turn-off. I on the other hand, absolutely loved it... his pervy innuendo made me more attracted to him for some reason. XD I just HAD to play as him, and when XL was released, I bought it solely for that reason. Good thing I wasn't disappointed. His sansetsukon weapon and crazy monkey flips are incredible! I love my characters.

My favorite characters choose me. I find most characters more likable than not, even if there's nothing admirable about their personality. (Case in point - Dong Zhuo, who tends to be so loathsome that he's funny.) The ones that make it to my favorites list have some personality "it factor" that appeals to me. I find some of them (e.g. Cao Ren and Lu Meng) to be admirable leaders. Others are amusing, sharing some quirk of mine (e.g. Keiji Maeda, who I just find myself liking - and I can relate to him the "loud obnoxious goofball" level). Sometimes I'm more into a character's move set than their personality or vice versa. The ones that I fangirl over something fierce - which would of course be Cao Ren and Lu Meng - have a synergy of historical background and highly admirable characterization that turns them into plausible legends in my eyes. I'm well aware that they wouldn't be running around shooting shockwaves out of shields and unleashing waves of fire, but they were both talented commanders whose awesome in-game personalities are a reasonable approximation for how they acted in real life. OK, fine, I like looking at them, too. Unconventional handsomeness for the win. Basically, these two are just awesome to me on all levels. They're similar but not identical variants of people to be like when I grow up. They have personality quirks that I can relate to - Ren's serious quiet loner streak, Meng's occasional grumpiness that seems to come from an overactive analytical mind. And their real life histories are interesting to ponder.

since this is a game,i usually choose the characters based on their awesomeness on the battlefield(DW6 SSX&cao pi,sun wukong, taigong wang, etc.) although a select few are just because they are awesome.period. and example of this would be imagawa yoshimoto and DW6 wei yan,no matter how people say abut their suckyness gameplay wise you got to admit they are awesome to some extent>.< Edited by wodash, Feb 2 2009, 05:26 AM.

Personality is a bit thing for me, needs to be both confident and has a sense of humor on them to show a lighter side, I generally prefer one with a sarcastic flavor as well. After that would be appearance and then decent moveset/range. Sakon is a big tick in them all for me, his unique personality is quite appealing, thinks for himself & cracks the odd sarcastic joke as well. I love how he can taunt even Takakatsu regarding his daughter in a smartass fashion. His appearance is great too, and I also love the sideburns, I've almost always had them myself (not quite as large as his though haha). Then of course he has a fairly simple, but really effective moveset to boot. |

when choosing a character, the poster guy usually catches my eye first.. so its not a surprise that i've grown fond of using zhao yun and yukimura sanada a lot in DW and SW...the characters' historical background too is one of the reasons why i pick them....and these two men are the symbol of a true warrior, at least to me. peer pressure also affects my choice of characters. for example, i see many of my friends using kanetsugu naoe a lot, and thus i went ahead and used him as well. good thing i found him to be quite enjoyable as well Edited by faichaim0nd, Feb 2 2009, 09:29 AM.

When it comes to DW and SW, I'm particularly fond of playing as the conquerors (Cao Cao, Liu Bei, Sun Jian/Quan, Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, Ieyasu). There may be a multitude of other characters, but its those seven that are the major driving force for the two stories of the two eras. |

I go for the ones with the most interesting and unique personalities, movesets and back stories. Dynasty Zhang Jiao - Very unique, in every way. Cao Ren - A unique appearance and weapon. Zhou Tai - Unique moveset and weapon (well... until DW6) Dong Zhou - The best personality EVER! Samurai Imagawa Yoshimoto - Bizarre... Truly, truly bizarre... Hanzo - I love him the way I loved Zhou Tai... until DW6... Kojiro - The most messed up character ever. I love him. |

For me it usually comes down to this: 1. Gameplay. 2. History. 3 Looks. I'll example 3 of my favorite DW6 iterations of characters. So for say...Tsao Tsao... he fits all 3 of those criteria in every game, and he's always one of my favorites. He lives up to what I want, in that he's usually fun/good to play, looks cool, and has a compelling background, even if that gets tossed out the window when the game starts. Zhang Fei, while a badass in history, usually looks kind of bland (I can't even remember what his DW3-5 costumes look like off the top of my head) and plays poorly, but in DW6 he's my favorite character in the game, as he lives up to his history in both battle prowess and design. For say.....Xiao Qiao...looks certainly help a lot in DW6. Before I always found her just goofy looking before, and only so-so gameplays wise. The character has virtually no history. She's so damn adorably moe in DW6 though, and while she isn't the worst character in the game, she takes a certain finesse to play, and I love that. These are only 3 examples though. I could ramble on and on but nobody would read that much I'm afraid. ;p |

The first thing for me is the looks I think, in DW, SW, WO and SC weapons are also a big part but not as big as char design. I really live in to the story and plays like I´m the character wich is probably why my favourite almost never is the main character since there is so much happening with them. Most of my favourite characters are ninjas, have spiked hair, a big greatsword/zweihänder and is mostly male since I´m a male but I really like most female chars too. Some examples of my favourites are: DW Wei: Dian Wei (Has been it since DW2, big guy with spikes on his armor , a handaxe and the horse head) Wu: Gan Ning (The guy with the spikey hair, just loved him from the fisrt time I saw him) Shu: Ma Chao/Wei Yan (Ma Caho: I´ve only got one thing to say, DW2-3 dragon armor, Wei Yan: A guy with a mask who bareley speaks) Others: Fu Xi/Zuo Ci (Fu Xi: Since he´s only in DW3 I included Zuo Ci too, Fu Xi is pretty obvious why I like him, just look at the sword Zuo Ci: At first I was pretty unsure I mean cojme on cards? but it turned out he was pretty strong and really funny to be. SW: Hanzo (I guess it was the whole ninja thing) SC: Nightmare (Just loved him from when I saw him for the first time wich was in the opening to SC2, I just loved his armor and the SC2 design is still my favourite even if he´s still awsome and then we have the Zweihänder Soul Edge to just awsome) |

I look at the charism oh the character, and also his apperence (but it's not the most important). it's hard to describe, it's just how i can't identify myself in the character. (bad english sorry^^). 1 : Oichi choose me. She was the only female character playable at first. And now she is my favorite character. I can't really explain why. 2 :Kunoichi : she is funny and i like her move. 3 :Magoichi Saika : He's the best, I like his weapon and he makes me laught. 4 :Xiao Qiao : she is cute, i like what she said when she defeat an ennemy and i really love how she fight. 5 : Da Ji : she is cool. (design, way of fighting) 6 : Mitsunari Ishida : design and weapon. |

The gender of a character is a big thing for me. I always tend to lean toward the female characters more than the males. Its been that way every since I was little. My ways of picking a favorite character is pretty sporadic. Some characters I'll love right off the bat, while others I may start up despising (for reasons that are, well, petty and childish) but end up loving after giving them a try (or just getting over my bipolar and high standards). Others I'll always despise, no matter what, and others I'm indifferent to. Personality/story is always important to me, personality more so than story sometimes. After personality/story, it's gameplay. After gameplay, I suppose it's appearance... then, lastly and the most selfish and petty of reasons, their standings with other fans. The top three characters of DW have all ranked perfect in my standards, those being Lu Meng, Sima Yi, and Wei Yan (despite the fact that Meng and Yanners don't get a story in DW6... ;_; a fact I will never forgive, no matter how many times Meng shows up in OTHER characters' stories). While Wei Yan lost his AWESOME double voulge, his personality and historical story are enough to make up for lack of story and good moveset (say what you want, I hate the club moveset). Same with my SW favorites. I loved both of Masamune's movesets, his story in both games (the first a little more than the second, only because it was FUN fighting two armies all the time), his attires and such. (Wish they made him less of a whiny brat in the WO series, but hey, my love for him is so deep routed that it'd take a lot for Koei to make me hate him). Nobunaga, the same... and despite the god awful voice that Hideyoshi has in WO series, like Masamune there would be a lot for Koei to do to make me dislike the little monkey. My reasons for liking certain characters and despising others is sporadic... the characters I used to not like but found their ways into my hearts (Cao Ren, Zhang Fei, Kanetsugu for GAMEPLAY ONLY, Xiahou Yuan) have all earned their way there by some way or another. Most of them having to do with HAVING to level them up or use them in WO or finally finding a reason to play all of them (individual story modes for each character over kingdom mode made me REALLY love Cao Ren and Xiahou Yuan). As for what it takes for me to dislike a character? Not... a whole damn lot. Sadly, I'm very petty in my tastes, and even though I love Kanetsugu's moveset in WO1-WO2, I simply cannot stand the little **** long enough to max him out more than I have to. |

XD I don't chose them, it just happens. Take Taigong Wang for example. I was a bit interested in him, when I saw the first picture, but didn't think much of him at first. Then I did a bit on research, noticed he had purple eyes, did more research, found out a bit of history and kind liked him. And then I finally had the game in my greedy pawns and hurried to play the Shu story so I could unlock and play him. I knew the decision had been made in the way he introduced himself ^^ I love the way he talks and walks and acts and I can't claim, that his appearance isn't too bad either ![]() And the weapon! If THAT isn't kinda unique I don't know what it is. Right. I think that was, in a way, responsible for me to be interested in him in the first place. After all who'd think someone wielding a fishing rod would be that powerful ^^ I suppose it was a bonus as well, that he is the ancestor of the Lü's and has such pretty purple eyes ^^ My second favourite currently is Nu Wa, because she is a female I can in some ways relate to. And her "Don't even think about touching me!", is kinda cool. Just like Zhen Ji's "Another officer bows before me" ^^ I love those quotes. And of course I still love Xunny (Lu Xun), Bubu-san (Lu Bu) and Lu Meng. Jiang Wei has a bit sunken in my popularity - probalby because he was cut out in DW 6 T^T Hm... I think the list would be shorter if I just stated the characters I can't stand, because I like most of characters - no matter wether its DW/SW or WO... |

Ever since Dynasty Warriors 3, Gan Ning has been my favorite character. He was awesome, the attitude and sword. But my god, in Dynasty Warriors 6, what happened?! LOL. He has blonde hair and earrings and a Las Vegas black feather thing going on. And his voice, he sounds like he just turned 16 or something. Thats not the worst part, they take away his like 4 ft. sword and gives him 2 daggers. <---worst part. Anyways, I'm sorry, but I know at least half of you here agree, I know Its not just me. But as for the answer to this topic forum: My favorite character is Zhang Fei. Range, attitude, and he doesn't look too fancy. But his pole blade, oh, thats what you call murder of lives on a stick! |

Definately how they look. What got me into playing Dynasty Warriors 3 is how the the characters looked. I just adored the designs and I just couldn't wait to play as them!! It is how the character looks, with their weapons, their poses and everything as a whole. Then when I get to play as the characters I get to explore the depths of them like their voices, movements, ways of talking, speed and everything!! @.@ But that does not ultimately determine my favourite character. When I make roleplays for the game I put different character in different roles. A lot of the times I get obsessed with a certain role of a certain character, and that makes me love them even more! |
